| Alphabetically, one of the first returnees appearing on the 1979 SJSU roster for wrestling, Matthew Denis Crawford
owns a 4-9 career mark at Sparta, including 3-5 at 118 pounds and 1-4 at 126 pounds. The 22 year old senior came
to SJSU by way of West Valley JC in Saratoga. He will wrestle at 126 this season. He wrestled two years and played
two seasons of basketball at Leigh High. His mat coach was Bill Dauphin, who guided him to 4th in the league in
1974. Under coach Jim Root in junior college, he was 4th in the Golden Gate Conference in 1976 and was named "Most
Improved" that year. Matt's grandfather, Joseph Gillio, was a PCBA boxing champion, and his father, James
Crawford, boxed in the US Navy. A biology major (he is a member of the SJSU Pre-Dental Club)with a HP and RE minor,
