It May Look Like He's Playing a Bad Joke on the Flathead....but He's Really Saving It's Life!!
This Flathead bit off more than he could, um, swallow and a good thing for it that Bill Driver of Kansas saw the 8 inch basketball bobbing around in the water and became curious or this whiskered monster would have been one of the "weird stuff" we see float up on the shoreline. The flathead cat was lucky though and Bill and his wife Pam used some quick thinking and compassion to set this guy free. A few snapshots (to catch the event), a sailboat sail (to corral the catfish), and a knife later this guy is off eating bluegill again...or baby ducks...they are not so buoyant.

Big Ol' Cat
Pekin, Illinois (about 3 hours from Rockford) John Denning throws out a chunk of bluegill into a deep strip-mine lake and reels in a possible Illinois record channel catfish. How big? 46.8 lbs., 45 3/4" long, and 29 5/8" around for girth! Why a possible record? Because of new science; genetic testing. There may be a possibility that the channel catfish is a channel/blue hybrid, so no record for now.
