Charles Dodgson ~ Page One

Charles Dodgson , the real name of author Lewis Carroll , was an avid photographer . Today he is mainly associated with his volunimous output of pictures of young girls , but he also photographed many of the leading literary and artistic figures of the time , including the Poet Laureate Alfred , Lord Tennyson. Dodgson was , by profession , a don of Mathematics at Oxford and the well-known Carroll diagram , a logical device as capable of its better-know rival , the Venn Diagram , was one of his most long-lasting achievements. Where it comes to his literary profession Carroll (as we must call him in this field) never managed to achieve again the same level of success that he had had with 'Alice's Adventures In Wonderland' and 'Alice Through The Looking Glass' ; his later works sold fewer volumes and can be seen in many ways as a more formalised pursuit of the genius evident in his best-known books.

When it comes to modern printed works on Dodgson/Carroll then the author Morten Cohen has to be considered the foremost authourity on the man , his works including a biography , a selection of his letters , a selection of his sayings, and the magnificent hard-back volume of his photographs 'Reflections In A Looking Glass' .
