The St Ives Pilot Gig Club was formed in 1990 and borrowed gigs for training and racing until the first gig The Porthminster was delivered in 1991 .

In August 1992 the ladies crew rowed from Newquay to St Ives ,This was a sponsored row to raise money for the club and took eight and a half hours.The support boat was supplied and crewed by Steve Basset & Billy Bond

September 1998 saw the Junior crew come 3rd in the annual County Championships which are held at Newquay
