N64 Madden 99: Initial Impression
This is a great game! I just got it today at EB. It was awesome. The gameplay is awesome, game speed is great. It is not slow at all. I agree that the sound is very disappointing...but you'll get use to it. The tackle animations are awesome and it is not slow at all...I mean it looks great. It plays like a real football game overall. Helmet cam is tha BOMB!! I play using the "classic madden zoom" cam, it's great. It is way better than the stupid QBC 98 that I bought last year. I'll say it is 10 times better. QBC 98 is so miserably slow..I HATE IT!! In fact, I traded in QBC 98 today along with another lamed game that (I happened to own)...for Madden 99, but I have to pay an extra of 23 buck. But it was worth it. I only have to pay 23 buck for Madden 99. Well, the game has everything, you name it, stats, gameplay, AI, presentation, they're awesome. ONLY one thing disappointing this year is the sound atmosphere...but don't let just one thing bother you and therefore you have to return the game...Overall, this is a great game. I have played the PSX version. Playstation Madden plays slower than this version and the control is not very responsive either. There is a 1/2 second delay in response to the controller in the PSX version, which is DEVASTATING to the game. Playstation version doesn't have helmet cam either. Talk about Helmet cam..WOW!! This baby really put you in the middle of the turf with Barry Sander coming at ya!! TAke that or GET Smack! N64 version is much more fun to play with because the control is more responsive. Playstation has better sound of course, but it plays much slower than the N64 version. N64 doesn't have the sound, but it plays much better than Playstation version..so it's vice versa. If you take into all account, the sound in this year Madden regardless of platform is pretty lamed anyway. There is really not much commentary (...or sound atmosphere) to satisfy and make you feel like that you're in a football game. The crowd is there in the N64 version, but it sort of drifted silently in the background....however, the SFX is great though!! Overall, gameplay, control, AI and graphics are what's count, so N64 version toppled over the Playstation version. Score 95/100
