All I can say is that you have to read
what the defense gives you. For example, if you're playing as a Niners,
and you know Jerry is usually on the left side of the field. Well,
when you snap the ball, look to see if the safety or the linebacker are
coming to double team him, if not, zip him the ball. And here's the
trick that makes passing work: When you snap the ball and move the
QB backward, you need to stand still when you throw the ball, that way
it is more accurate and you need to press the controller stick forward
while passing to lob the ball accurately. I guarantee that you will
complete more passes if you stand still when you pass the ball or press
forward to lob. If you move forward or move in another direction while
you're passing, you're more likely to miss your target receiver.
And also, it is not bad to pass the ball while pulling the control stick
backward. This way you're throwing it lower and closer to the receiver
and avoid easy interception. I find it work best if your receiver
is running straight routes then coming back for ball, or running a straight
out pattern.. Use a lot of slant patterns or patterns that run across
the field...you must look and anticipate when a receiver is crossing and
bypass a defender...then zip him the ball. Don't lob the ball...just
zip it in. However, you're more likely to get tip though if you zip
it hard. In order to avoid ball getting tip, push the controller
stick forward while passing, this way you're lobbing the ball toward the
receiver. By the way, if you're seeing one-on-one coverage downfield
and if your receiver had a step ahead of the defender, this is a good way
to lob the ball to him. Don't just press the button likely and expect
to lob the ball to the receiver's hand. You need to press the controller
stick forward toward the receiver while you pass. This is more accurate.
If you find a defender about to sack you, quickly press forward and tap
the button to lob the ball or do what ever to avoid getting sacked.
As for running game, basically, you just need to use the juke button...forget
about the stiffs arm and hurdle button. Only use those buttons if
you're in open area or about to break open. If a defender is on your
right side, stiff him with the right hand and stiff him with your left
hand if he is on your left side. But, basically to start off running,
juke move is the way to go.
I find 8 mins quarter is the most accurate in terms of
statistic and score. Maybe 9 or 10 mins quarter will do the same...i
haven't try it though. Regarding the sound on the N64 version, I
find that the crowd noise seems louder in one game, and not as loud in
other games. I wonder if the volume of the crowd is randomly programmed
in the game. So far, the best game experience I have is, playing
as Niners against the Saints in the 3Com muddy field. It really rains
hard and players are getting muddy. I can't describe the feeling
of playing in just a gloomy weather...it is just spectacular...there is
no light, no nothing, just rain and cloudy! Playing against the Saints
under such weather condition reminds me of the BIG game, NIners Vs Cowboys
in the real NFL Championship game. And playing against the Saints
does in fact reminds of the 49ers failing to take care of the real Cowboys
on muddy field..because I was down 10-0 in the 1st quarter of the game.
But then I came back and exploded with a long drive, a total of 10 plays
which ended in a TD...(from the Saints' 20 yard line, G. Hearst ran and
juked his way through the Defense and all of sudden he was wide open and
he raced straight for an easy TD). Now 10-7. Saints got another TD.
It's 17-7. I came back with a field goal. It's 17-10.
I finally scored the last drive...it's a tied game. We're heading
to OVERTIME. I won the coin toss. I got my team all the way
to the 50 yard line, ...oh man, it's 4th down, got to punt. By this
time, I can see the players getting muddy and tired. It's the Saints
ball, they drive all the way to my 31 yard line...or somewhere around 25
to 31 yard line. It's 4th down. They're going for a field goal..a
51 yarder to win it. Barely make it. Damm...they did it.
They won! This game reminds me of the 49ers loosing to the Cowboys
in real life with rain and mud and gloomy weather effects...I couldn't
say it more. Madden 99 (N64)<---CONSOLE KING!!
P.S. Choosing a right camera view does effect your
enjoyment of the game. I find the ultimate view...the best and ONLY
view to fully enjoy the game is the "classic zoom cam." Other views
are simply just too close or too distractive. I find "classic view"
too far away. However, "helmet cam" is great in its own perspective.
Other views are simply not good enough.
