St Ives South
It was a perfect day for hunt when horses, riders and followers gathered at St. Ives for the ninth hunt at of the season at St Ives South. The owners of the property, Richard and Suzanne, had their family there in full force to support the day. The master assured riders that the going was good - soft but not too slippery. The second paddock hadn't been entered before the first stop was made. Yours truly could verify that the going was soft but Flo would dispute the not too slippery comment. Any way, Bec had a chance for a ride and Flo didn't miss the hunt.
The rest of the hunt flowed smoothly with all the horses and riders enjoying the jumps although there was the odd bit of circle work. The four carloads of followers even provided a "fall" for the day. Rodger will have to remind Val to keep an eye on the side mirrors. Jessica had an unscheduled stop after the first stirrup cup and, if you believe the horse riders superstition that after thirteen fails you are well on the way to being a horse rider, then Madison only has twelve to go! There were lots of (horse) knee high little ones running around during stirrup cup. The supportive husbands need to be commanded for baby sitting whilst their wives enjoyed their riding.
While horses were being washed down and fed after the exhilarating hunt Rosie's delicious soup was dispensed and welcomed. Zac won the crooked horseshoe after overcoming a "killer" look from his mum when noticed driving his brother's vehicle in the paddock. There is a firm belief that the " 50's Club" is rigged as the Englehardts won it - again ! It was a good day and enjoyed by all.
The Master's Dinner was held last Saturday night at the Restaurant Belia. Predinner drinks were held close by and many stayed the night just a short walk away. A delicious meal was interspersed with entertaining "Show and Tell". It was noticed that following day that the Mistress rather than the Master drove to their Sunday engagement at Penneshaw.
