The Dragon - was a symbol of mankind's inner self; thought, spirit and wisdom. The Dragon was supposedly able to use all of the attributes of all of the other animals. It used strong Ibuki breath control, and the Dragon techniques include dynamic tension. It was known for quick rapid strikes coupled with slow strong movements and combinations of simple techniques coupled with complex strikes. The Dragon represents Strength, Heart, Wisdom and Spirit.
The Tiger - was a symbol of mankind's external self; physical power, courage and honor. The Tiger is single minded when it stalks its prey. It will stare unwavering at its adversary and once the attack begins it is fierce until it is over. Oriental saying...”When two tigers fight...one is injured and one is dead”. The Tigers attacks are filled with combinations; kicks, punches, strikes, pulls, scratches, gouges and even grappling. The movements of a Tiger may begin slow, but then can explode into a fiery defense and attack. Few animals evoke as much fear as the Tiger. Legends abound concerning the sheer strength, cunning, ferocity and power of the Tiger. The Tiger is graceful, yet supremely powerful and fast. The Tiger represents Physical Strength, Honor, Cunning and Courage.
To our school, the Dragon also represents the Oriental roots from which the Martial Arts were founded. The Tiger pays homage to Gichin Funakoshi from whom so much of our style and philosophies have descended.
Win or Lose, each Bushi-Kai student who competes in a Tournament is awarded this patch. This patch is to honor their spirit and courage for being a Tournament player.
