Thoughts on Ju Jitsu
For the complete Martial Artist, learning to fight from the ground is as important as learning to fight standing up. A majority of real fights end up in a grappling situation, and you had better know what to do from the ground. It was for that reason I enrolled in a semester of Wrestling and then of Judo back in my college days. Way back before there were any Ju Jitsu classes to be found. I feel that an important aspect of Ju Jitsu is teaching you how to regain your feet should the fight go to the ground. Although grappling and Ju Jitsu rounds out your knowledge, what happens if you have multiple attackers? In that instance you do not have time to work for a submission or even a choke. Therefore Karate holds equal importance. You should strive for balance. As Grand Master Trias said, "There is no such thing as one style of Karate being better than another. There is only good Karate and bad Karate".
