News On Perry Saturn's Supposed Punishment
Written by Marco Perez on June 12, 2001 Thanks to Kevin Gregg for the following:
Much speculation is going around about the angle involving Perry Saturn on television. As you may have read already, a few weeks ago, Perry Saturn had a match with Mike Bell (Jobber) on WWF Jakked and Mike Bell messed a spot up and that caused Perry Saturn to give Mike Bell a number of stiff shots. He even tossed him to the outside of the ring in what looked like Mike Bell broke his neck. That wasn't the case, but many were concerned for the condition of Mike Bell. Perry Saturn did work very stiffly with Mike Bell, and it was rumored that he was sent home. To kill the rumors of him being sent home, Perry Saturn was on television the week after. From there, an angle started with Perry Saturn, in which he would take many 'stiff' shots, mostly to the head.
The first being two double power bombs by Faarooq and Bradshaw (The APA). At that point, many speculated that the power bombs given to Perry Saturn were stiff power bombs, used as punishment against Perry for what he did to Mike Bell. That's not the case at all. The power bombs were put over as stiff power bombs by the commentators and the angle is that Perry is taking too many shots to the head, which is causing him to act like a loony. This angle is not at all punishment by the World Wrestling Federation to Perry Saturn for his actions against Mike Bell. After the match Perry had with Mike Bell, Bell was fine. Just a little banged up. Nothing serious. The World Wrestling Federation would not use physical punishment on one of their wrestlers as punishment for something they have done. If the WWF felt the need to punish Perry Saturn, they would have sent him home and not put him back on television so soon.
This isn't World Championship Wrestling. A guy can't act out of line and their punishment be more air time and a Championship belt. In the upcoming weeks, it's been speculated by Jim Ross in the Ross Report that Perry Saturn will be turning into a fan favorite, due to the positive response the character has gotten. As we have seen already on WWF Smackdown!, Perry Saturn 'turned' on Dean Malenko as he and the Dudley Boyz did the head butt to the groin spot from the top rope. From there, in some added humor, Perry Saturn told D-Von to 'get the muffins.' One can only speculate where this character is going, but expect it to be a face turn for Perry Saturn in the near future. Expect a face Perry Saturn and a heel Dean Malenko to go against each other on television, perhaps after the King of the Ring. Don't expect it to make it to pay per view.
