Lawler Talks About The Kat In PlayBoy, and WWF
Written by Eduardo Perez on June 06, 2001
The following is the Latest Statement from Jerry "The King" Lawler, you can visit his official site at Kinglawler.com.
Unfortunately, it's been a long time since I last updated everyone as to what's going on with Stacy and me. And believe me, a lot has been going on! We have been incredibly busy and it has not allowed a lot of time to be spent on the computer. We, of course still read our e-mail each and every day, and try to respond to as many as we can, but it is still impossible to answer them all. But we want to continue to thank everyone that writes to us and keeps us in their thoughts! It's really great to know that so many people care about what happens to us and want to keep up with what we are doing. 99% of our e-mails still begin with "We miss you guys on the WWF tv's and the shows are not the same without you..." Well, thanks, but I think we've about beat that dead horse all we can! Both Stacy and I appreciate all the efforts of our friends and fans to return us to the WWF, the e-mails, the phone calls, the petitions, the signs, the letters, but it appears they have all fallen on deaf ears. The "powers that be" in the WWF are going to do what they want to do whether it's what the fans want or not.
There have been a lot of reports recently on the internet about a meeting between myself and Jim Ross and Kevin Dunn of the WWF. Without confirming or denying that such a meeting took place, let me just say that nothing has changed in our situation with the WWF. As you all know, I left the WWF in February after Stacy was "fired" hours before a Smackdown taping. I felt I could not condone the unprofessional manner in which the situation was handled. Since that time we had hoped the matter could be resolved, but no attempts to do so have been made. My position is simply this...If the WWF does not want me to return to my commentary duties on Raw or Smackdown, that is fine. It is not the end of the world...life goes on. But if the WWF does want me to return to do the color commentary on their shows, I would be agreeable, but only if Stacy is reinstated as well. I've made it clear to them that she doesn't have to be brought back as the "star of the show" or anything like that, merely put back on the roster and used whenever the creative team decides to. I have since learned more about what the reasons supposedly were for her firing and I now believe more strongly than ever that Stacy was not responsible for these things and that she did not deserve to be released. It seems that it has now boiled down to a "political" thing or an ego thing, if you will, so I am not too optimistic about anything being worked out. But never say never in this business, as they say, "anything can happen in the World Wrestling Federation."
That being said, let's get onto more pleasant things. Hey! Guess what? One of the things that supposedly led to Stacy being fired was the fact that we met with Hugh Hefner about Stacy being in Playboy!!! Well, I guess she's really history now, because Stacy's in Playboy!!! Well, sort of... Someone told us to check out the new July issue of Playboy and much to our surprise, right there on page 15 is a photo of Stacy!!!! Unfortunately, she is fully clothed...and worse, I am in the picture as well!!! Fortunately, I am fully clothed also, as is "Hef" who is also in the picture. The caption reads, "Hef welcomed wrestler Jerry "the King" Lawler and his wife, Stacy "the Kat," to the mansion. It's a good picture but not as good as a picture of Stacy in Playboy should be. And I have a gut feeling that this is not the last time you will see her in Playboy!
We have been very busy promoting a big show we will be having at the Mid South Coliseum in Memphis on Friday, June 15th. We are bringing back nearly every great wrestler that the Memphis fans grew up loving to watch in the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's!!!! Just listen to this great card and maybe some of you will want to make the trip to Memphis to see it live! Keep in mind that all of these wrestlers were featured over the years in the Mid-South area that included Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Arkansas..... The opening match will be a six man tag match featuring a team that was known as the "Bruise Brothers" made up of Mad Dog, Porkchop Cash, and the Dream Machine, going against King Cobra, Tracy Smothers, and Chris Harris. (Chris is the young wrestler that was featured in the recent Clay Davidson music video seen on CMT) The second match will be a tag match with the Nightmares going against The Rock 'n' Roll Express. Third match will be Wolfie "D" and Jamie Dundee as PG 13 taking on Spellbinder and Reggie B. Fine managed by Bert Prentice. Fourth match will be Stacy (Kat) taking on a female wrestler being managed by Sonny Ono. Fifth match will see Brian Christopher take on the Colorado Kid, Mike Rapada. Sixth match will feature the Moondogs, Spot and Cujo going against the Bushwhackers. The seventh match will be Bill "Superstar" Dundee battling Kamala, the Ugandan Giant. Then the eighth match sees Nature Boy, Buddy Landell and Billy Travis managed by Nate the Rat, go against Handsome Jimmy Valiant and Soulman, Rocky Johnson...father of "The Rock" The ninth match will have Steve Keirn and Stan Lane reunite as the Fabulous Ones and they will face their old rivals, Hawk and Animal, the Road Warriors! The tenth match will be me! Jerry "the King" Lawler, with one of the most famous wrestlers in Memphis history in my corner, the Fabulous Jackie Fargo and we will be going against Lord Humongus managed by the Mouth of the South, Jimmy Hart!!! And that's not all...to cap it off there will be a 20 man Battle Royal for a 2002 Cadillac Escalade from Cadillac of Memphis, and the keys will be presented to the winner by the "Diamond Ring and Cadillac Man, Sputnik Monroe!!! Veteran announcer Lance Russell will be on hand as will Dave Brown and Corey Maclin. Even referee Jerry Calhoun will return to the Coliseum for the first time in over 12 years!!
It's going to be a great show and if you would like to be a part of it you can reserve tickets through Ticketmaster.com.
A lot of folks have asked us to let them in on where we will be appearing and wrestling around the country, so here goes..... The day after we do the big show in Memphis, I will be doing an autograph signing on Saturday, June 16th in Virginia, then on Sunday June 17, Stacy and I will be appearing at the Tri-Star Collectors Show in Kansas City (Overland Park International Trade Center) along with many other great pro athletes. On June 18 and 19 I will be playing in the John Daley Celebrity Golf Tournament at the Grand Casino in Robinsonville, Mississippi. Then some rest and relaxation...We head for our condo in Florida until June 25th when I will fly to New York to attend three Yankees and Indians games on the 25th, 26th and 27th. Speaking of the Cleveland Indians, I just painted the cover for this weeks edition of "Indians Ink" the official publication of the Cleveland Indians baseball team. The cover features drawings I did of Indian's centerfielder,Kenny Lofton. Kenny and I are going to autograph the original art and it will be auctioned off to benefit "Kenny's Kids" which is Lofton's charity. If you would like to obtain a copy of Indian's Ink with my cover you can call 1-800-336-0514 . Or better yet call and subscribe to Indian's Ink, it's a great publication! On Friday, June 29th, Saturday, June 30th, and Sunday, July 1st, I will be signing autographs at the National Sports Collectors' Convention at the I-X Center in Cleveland, Ohio along with Hank Aaron, Lou Brock, Steve Carlton, Tim Couch, Bob Feller, Joe Frazier, Bob Gibson, Archie Griffin, Magic Johnson, Willie Mays, Bill Mazeroski, Phil Niekro, Gaylord Perry, Tom Seaver, Kurt Warner and Chris Weinke!!! What a show that's gonna be!!!! That just takes us into July, and July is more packed that June! I'll let you all know about our July schedule next week!!
Now that we have gotten up and coming events out of the way, I want to talk about an event that took place last week that was very disturbing to me, and that was the firing of Brian Christopher. Actually the firing of Brian was not disturbing to me but the circumstances surrounding the firing did disturb me greatly. I think that disappointment is the only word I can think of to describe my feelings about Brian's situation. I know we are all human, and no one is perfect...we all make mistakes, but if someone had asked me last week "who in the WWF uses drugs?" my answer would have been, "I can't tell you who does, but I can tell you one person that I know doesn't...Brian Christopher." I guess I would have sounded like an idiot, and I feel like one now for not knowing. And I'm sad and disappointed. I can only hope that Brian will learn from his mistake and see how his actions not only effect him but the people that care about him as well. Brian is going to make a public statement about his situation here on my website later this week. I, like all of you will be anxious to hear what he has to say. I know you all must be tired of reading by now, so I will continue this later this week as well. Take care!
