Carihi Tournament Summary
North Island vs CarihiIn front of a hostile opposition crowd the Norsemen demonstrated what they are truly made of. A potentially slightly complacent Carihi crowd was surprised when the North Island team was within 5 at the half. The second half turned into the Shaun Laing show, as the imposing 6'10" centre completed a dominating game. 18 rebounds, 14 points, and 5 huge blocks set the tone inside the paint on both ends of the floor. As usual #7 Mark Smith was an offensive machine, scoring 27 points. Strong performances from Mike van Hemmen and Peter Bain solidified the game for NISS.Final : (W)North Island - Carihi (L)
Woodlands vs North IslandEarlier this day Mike van Hemmen sprained his ankle slipping on snow outside the gym. This caused him to watch the game for the bench, in a game where his physical strength was direly needed. The tall but thin "Twin Tower" pairing of Shaun Laing and Peter Bain wasn't nearly as effective rebounding without the aid of van Hemmen. In a very disappointing semi-final NISS dropped to the cnosolation round. One huge note on the game was a 41 POINT showing by Mark Smith.Final : North Island(L) - Woodlands(W)
