NISS Invitational Summary

Max Cameron vs North Island

In the first game of the tournament NISS went against a zone rival in Max Cameron. In front of nearly the entire student body the Norsemen did not show any signs of nervousness. With captain Mark Smith starting the game on fire the team took a commanding first quarter lead. Throughout the game, stiff defence and offensive execution carried NISS to an easy win.
Final : (83)North Island - Max Cameron (61)

North Island vs Kwalicum

This was the game the Norsemen were looking forward to prior to the tournament. Unfortunately the team came out sluggish and Kwalicum's early pressing got them a large lead. However, a strong second and third quarter brought NISS back within 5 points. This was the closest we would get, though, as despite hard work and a good effort, Kwalicum slowly pulled away late in the game.
Final : North Island(79) - Kwalicum(97)

North Island vs Cedar (3rd place game

Going into the third place game NISS was a confident bunch. With a good gameplan the team started out fast, using defensive pressure to get out to an early 10 point lead. But it was a lack of constant intensity which allowed Cedar to sneak back into the game. With thirty seconds left NISS had the ball. A missed shot with 7 seconds remaining allowed Cedar to get the rebound, and call time. Cedar quickly stormed up the floor and got a running jumper to take a two point lead with only two seconds remaining. A last ditch, long-bomb, throw went out of bounds and the host NISS dropped the game. One highlight was the strong play of Peter Bain, who scored 15 points in the game in his season high to date.
Final : Cedar(71) - North Island(69)
