Notes: Titles such as Sensei and Shihan may be earned at 3rd and 6th Dans respectively, but the are not lost when the practitioner increases in belt levels. For example, a Sensei is a sensei from 3rd Dan (or the time he/she earns the title) until he/she passes away...once a Sensei, always a Sensei. Same goes with Shihan; it is some of the other titles that are more migrant: Renshi, Kyoshi, Hanshi, O'Sensei, Shidoin, etc.
