On this day we started our day by going to the Lama temple and observing the rituals of the Buddhists kowtowing to the Buddha's.  Today was Adrienne's birthday and she met a fellow American at the temple that was celebrating her birthday also.   There were monks there in their brown robes and marks on their heads that signify a devotion to the religion.    We went across the street to a Confucius Temple.  There is a definite difference between the two.  The Confucius temple was very quiet and peaceful with not a lot of activity going on, where as the Buddhist temple was packed with tourist and devotees.   While at the Confucius Temple we listened to some very peaceful music being performed for us.  When we left we walked had the opportunity to walk through a home of one of the locals.  The home was set up in a courtyard with different doors leading to rooms.  It was very different from the homes that we have in America.  You enter into the courtyard by one entranceway.  There was an old man sitting outside the home with his grandchild.  After we had lunch and went to the Summer Palace which was built by Empress Dowager Cixi.  She is criticized in Chinese history for all the money she spent building places like this meanwhile China was becoming very poor.   She was the one of the only two Empresses in China.  She was a concubine that bore the Emperors only son.  Later, after he died she took power after hiding behind her young son the puppet leader of China for awhile.
After we saw the Pandas at the Beijing Zoo.  Pandas are native to China and a must to see while there.  After dinner we were given some free time to interact with the students again at the college.  While talking to one of the students, Sandy.  I learned that many of the children games she grew up are the same as the ones I played too.  While playing a game of what appeared to be the same as dodge ball with them we had a funny episode of missed communication between the languages because what I thought she said was "you fall."  After I foolishly fell to the ground, and a dictionary was brought out, I realized she actually said, "I fail!"  We had some big laughs about that.  It was a lot of fun.
