Pugilistic Platoons
Central Division
How does your team stack up against the rest
of the division?

Calgary Hitmen vs Saskatoon Blades
Toughness should have little
to do with this series as the Hitmen are far deeper offensively than the
Blades and it should be short, Hitmen in four. Hordichuk might go with
Peat but it will hold little significance in the series and I can't imagine
Halldorsen running around taking any liberties with the better Hitmen players.
This is one series for sure that toughness will have very little to say
about the outcome, however look for Peat to save his energy for the league
final and hopefully the Memorial Cup as fighting in what should be a short
and painless semi-final for the Hitmen wouldn't serve any purpose as Peat
doesn't have anything to prove. Gomez may find the time to drop the gloves
with Forth or Halldorsen as a side show, but it should be a relatively
easy series for the Hitmen.

Kootenay Ice vs Swift Current Broncos
This series should be a fiesty affair with both teams having some tough customers. Colton Orr and Matt Sommerfeld are more than willing to oblige the likes of Belak, Bublitz and Lassu on the Ice side of the ledger, with Ondrus and Hiebert being able agitators for the Broncos. I just hope seventeen year old Orr doesn't decide to have a go with Belak as his youth and inexperience could cost him dearly in a scrap with the big guy. Swift just came off a tough series with P.A. and it should set up a rested Ice squad for a short series, however the Broncos have surprised all year and it wouldn't be any surprise for this series to be long and tough, much like the Cougars/T-Birds series is expected to be!
Lethbridge
Hurricanes,
Maybe not my favorite team, but definitley, my favorite coach. This guy played and now coaches like a pitbull on acid and he’s got a team to prove it. Jordan Flodell has played his last game in junior, but with Scantlebury,Ossachuk and possibly Godard returning for their overage years and sixteen year old fighting phenom, Derek Parker having fought his way through his first year, the ‘Canes could be a miserable team to contend with next year. No matter who or who doesn’t return next year, you can be sure, the combination of Brian Maxwell and Derek Parker will be as bad for other teams as an overdose of sleeping pills and alchohol.
Medicine
Hat Tigers,
A horrible year in the Hat
comes to a close. Next year couldn’t be any worse and depending on who
returns to the Hat next year, they could be just as ugly. Scheff will be
back for sure, one year older and one year wiser. Maser has played his
lastgame in the dub. Voth is another questionable, drafted by the St. Louis
Blues, he will attend his second pro camp and probably will return to the
Hat for his final junior year. Konrad Brand is an overage and will move
on. Medicine Hat will be looking to Brett Schefflemaier to lead the way,
recently acquired, B.J.Fehr, who is more than capable of looking after
teammates and himself and second year fireball, Ryan Hollweg to look after
the pugilistic performances. Unless the Hat has something up their sleeve,
next year may be just as rough as the last.
Red
Deer Rebels,
It wasn't to be for the Rebels
this year. It's tough to say at this point what to look for next
year from this team. Stay tuned.
