The Cougars won't be anyone's whipping boy this year. Word is Boogaard, who can skate forward pretty darned well, has added pivots and stopping to his repertoire this year and it should make him more effective on balance and getting to where he needs to be on time. At 6'6" and in the 240lb range, this guy could be a monster this year.  The loss of Ryan Chieduch to Medicine Hat is a small blow when you have the likes of Travis Eagles, Dan Hamhuis and Tim Wedderburn as your supporting cast. Dan Baum also showed some feistiness last year and a year in the league could give him some confidence to go more often. The jury is out on whether Boogaard can be a consistent force, but if he becomes a contender instead of a pretender, the Coug's will be nasty team to face this year.

Rare combination of skill and toughness, this guy can throw them with all but the big heavyweights and still live to tell about it. Quick puncher who often overwhelms guys with the number of punches he throws. Surprisingly strong as well.

Dan "Boom Boom" Baum.

As rookie last season he showed some jam and strength. Though not an overly big hitter, he'll get his share of opponents because of his robust style. Didn't see him go much last season but he appears to be a scrapper of the

Tim "How's the" Wedderburn.

May have missed this guy in the top ten as he can trade 'em with anybody. Another tall lanky scrapper, Wedderburn is a smart fighter who waits for the big shot and can hurt you if your not careful.

Two guys, that's it.  This isn't the Cougars year and the fans know it.  However they do have a couple of pretty good scrappers in Derek Boogaard and Adam Stefishan, neither of which is afraid of anybody in the league.  Boogaard had a reputation coming into this season and he's living up to it.  He's becoming a better scrapper and he's getting a little more ice time.  Adam Stefishan.....big or small, he's fought 'em all. The Cougars are a team that may well have to literally fight for a playoff spot and even if the fans don't get to see them in the playoffs they'll have a helluva a good time watching them try. It looks like it's going to be a dogfight between the Cougars and the Ams this year and unless the Ams can get their s**t together in a hurry fighting their way into a playoff spot may just work for the rebuilding Cougars.
