Jim "aka Hanson" Vandermeer....D...6'1"...208lbs...02/21/80
Jim had a big month with five fights and when this borderline psycho
starts fighting as well as playing his "nightmare on Elm Street" style,
he's a force. This guy is just as likely to use his stick as a barbeque
spit as he is to drop it and fight, which scares the sh** out of most guys.
This guy will be tough to move from the one spot if he keeps this inspired
play up. Three of Jim's five fights included Andrew Jungwirth, Colton Orr
and Steve Crampton
Brett "My name's as long as my arms" Scheffelmaier...D...6'6"...220lbs...03/31/81
Brett Schefflenaier had a slow month with only two fights and only
one tilt with a real heavyweight in Eric Bowen. I don't know if Scheff
is hurt or what, but he's only going to number two because of his reputation
and fact he is one tough hombre. Word is Tampa bay also told Scheff to
cool the fighting and play more hockey this year, but you can still count
on Scheff to provide fireworks should it hit the fan.
Andrew "Jungle boy" Jungwirth...D...6'2"...215lbs...02/19/82
Andrew had a five fight month and shows us he's for real. Four of
his fights were against some real tough customers in Colton Orr,
Jim Vandermeer, David Kaczowka and Garth Murray. September saw Andrew pound
Robin Gomez and if he keeps this no nonsense style up, he may be challenging
for the top spot real soon.
Robin "Wonder Boy"Gomez...C...6'1"...210lbs...10/15/81
Six fights in October for Robin, who if nothing else stays busy.
Four of Robin's opponents were Ryan Jorde (twice), Colton Orr, Jordon Clarke,
Sean O'Connor and a loss to Aaron Gionet. Robin is a guy who is exciting
to watch with his stand back and throw bombs, style.
Dion "The mad roper" Lassu...D...6'2"...205lbs...02/19/80
Dion had three fights in October but is very tough and wearing the
"C" will keep his numbers down. However, his opponents were no slouches,
with Kaczowka and O'Coonor (twice), both being tough heavyweights. Dion
is a hard punching fighter who can hurt you and with Comrie having the
season he's had so far, Dion could soon be much busier as teams give the
scoring star more physical treatment.
Jeff "Not Brown, not Jones, It's" "Smith...LW...6'6"...212lbs...01/02/81
Big, physical player from Red Deer had four scraps and he appears
to be ready to up those totals soon. Two fights with Matt Sommerfeld and
one with Derek Parker show he's not picking on any slouches and is willing
to go with anyone.
Brad "The sloth" Voth...RW...6'6"...227lbs...02/25/80
Big Brad has been fighting more than in the past as his four fights
in the month of October will attest. Of his four fights, Sean O'Connor,
Chad Grisdale, Keegan McAvoy and Chris Barr were his opponents, all tough
guys, however with Med Hat trying to figure out what to do with the Nov.1
deadline for declaring teams three over agers, Brad may be on the bubble
and on his way out. Kind of surprised he didn't drop 'em even more
for a guy who's physical presence was going to make or break his chances
of making the team
Kyle "The halloween fairy" Wanvig...RW...6'2"...219lbs...01/29/81
Power forward who can score and fight, Kyle had four scraps, including
Thomas Scantlebury (twice), Sean Skolney and Phil Cole on his dance card.
Kyle skates the fine line between needing to put up offensive numbers and
playing tough, scrappy hockey defending teammates. A force on the wall,
in front of the net and when the gloves come off.
Derek "I wanna be Scott" Parker...LW...6'1"...207lbs...06/27/83
Much was expected from Derek this year, however his skills haven't
developed and his lack of ice time is affecting his numbers and will continue
to do so until he gets with coach Maxwells program. Rumours abound that
Derek is likely on the block. Two of his three fights were against
a couple of tough kids though, in Jeff Smith and Jon Mirasty.
Thomas "The Archbishop of" Scantlebury...D...6'2"...205lbs...06/01/80
Captain of the Hurricanes is a tough, physical, stay at home defenceman
who is willing to drop the gloves. He fought Kyle Wanvig twice in the same
game and the competitive Scantlebury can be expected to get busier as the
season wears on.
