Junior Handlers
I still need more info about juniors so please send me information about you if you want to be mentioned!

Philip Myers, is a 13 year old who lives in PA. At last years CWCCA National Specialty, the Juniors judge, Robert Caldwell, handed him the Best Junior ribbon! There were many juniors for him to beat! Also, he was named #1 Junior Handler of the year 2001. In other words, he was the junior that defeated the most juniors. That's very impressive! Also, at the 2001 Ohio State Fair 4H competition, Philip won 1st in showmanship out of over 40 exhibitors! Wow! Philip was ranked the #1 Cardigan Junior Handler in 2002!!
Philip's dog also needs some recognition for helping him get all those wins! Ch.Ricochet's Mark of Zorro has had a great year winning many BOB and one group placing! Zorro is a 2 year old dog who has come a long way and has bonded very much with his handler, Philip. We are all very proud of them both!

Susan Parker, a 14 year old, lives in OH with her 2 cardigans. She hasn't been in the showing world for over a year yet so she doesn't have many wins. But she is already in Open Senior and gets placed or wins in smaller shows and normally makes the cut in bigger shows! It's always those darn setters who take the win! Then again, Susan was ranked 9th Cardigan Junior Handler in 2002, not bad for a rookie. But she is normally somewhat successful and when she isn't in the ring, she's at home training her 2 cardigans for agility or conformation.
Maris is her main juniors dog, a dark brindle female who is 7 years of age. She has had one litter of puppies and is now spayed. Susan and Maris recently started training for agility and Maris is apparently catching on really fast and loves to go to class! Maris' favorite obstacle seems to be either the A-frame or the Dog-walk because she is above everybody else! Susan plans to take her to some trials to see what she can really do! I hope I can tell more later about how great Maris is doing at agility!

Ferris Beashau, lives in North Eastern Ohio and has 3 cardis. She is 17 years old and competes in the open senior class. Truman, is her obedience dog and she got his CD last year. He has five breed points on him but he didn't turn out the way they'd hoped. Her second dog is Brody. He earned his championship in 13 months with limited showing. Ferris is working with him in obedience. Sometimes she shows my brother's bitch, Twyla. She is close to her CH title, and so far she has ten points and only needs a major.
Ferris is a senior in high school. She had a tremendous summer in 2002 when she finished Brody, and at the same show got a group 1 in a huge puppy match with her brother's dog. Then she went on to be chosen as best junior handler by Cathy Ochs-Cline at the second day of the CWCCWR specialty. During the all breed show that same weekend she placed 4th in a large entry of open seniors. Ferris then went on to St. Clair Michigan and was 3rd place in open seniors and the judge was Marianne Gladstone. The same weekend Truman and she earned the third leg of his CD. Even when she doesn't place, she normally makes the cut in large classes up to 50 entries! Ferris was tied for the rank of #4 cardigan junior handler in 2002 in the country even though she does very limited showing.

Madeline Wilson, is 11 years old and is in the sixth grade at Centennial Elementary School in Lawrence, Kansas. Owain, Ch. Talgarth's Owain Gylndwr NA(pending) is her only Cardigan. Owain just had his third birthday. Madeline also does other sports and activities such as riding her show horse, doing gymnastics and taking trumpet lessons.

She finished Owain’s championship in the breed ring when he was 17 months old. She was only nine years old at the time so she couldn't do juniors yet. They got Best of Winners and a four point major. How exciting! Later that month she turned 10, and started in the Juniors ring. Her best weekend in Juniors was when she showed in Wichita, Kansas. It was also her first weekend showing in agility as well. She had a tough time switching from class to class! But they won two 1st's and a 2nd in Novice Juniors. That was just before the 2002 Cardigan Nationals where she showed in Open Juniors. She was proud to get second next to the top handler, Philip Myers!

Owain and Madeline are taking a break from winning so much to concentrate on agility. He just finished his third leg to get his first Novice Standard title. They only have one more leg in Novice Jumpers with Weaves. She knew Owain would like agility when he started climbing and sliding down her brothers' plastic slide! The team's favorite obstacles are the dog walk and the teeter. Someday Madeline plans to take Owain into herding. He also passed his herding instinct test at our Nationals. What a pair!

Grace Geisler, who lives in Dayton, Ohio, has been handling Monty , Llanbryn's The Full Monty, since June 2002. Grace is 10 years old and is in the fifth grade. Grace is an active member of the Warren County Ohio Clover Canine 4-H Club. In Grace's first year in 4-H she represented Warren County at the Ohio State Fair.

Grace and Monty are participating in Therapy Dog training offered by the Clover Canines. Grace and Monty hope to pass the certification requirements in March of 2003. Grace also trains Monty in obedience. Last year they placed 7th out 12 in the Warren County Fair.

While Grace loves to show dogs, she hates to get up early to travel to the shows! She would be happy if all dog shows were 5 minutes away and started at noon! Click here to see some pictures of Grace.

Kenny Spradling, is from Madison, Alabama. He has shown dogs for 2 years now and has 2 dogs. Their names are Dixie and Anna. He also placed fourth in the Jr. Handlers National Specialty in Lexington, Kentucky. This is the dog show that he'll always remember because that was about the last time he saw a very close friend. He was a cardigan breeder named Gary Gyaki. Some other people may remember him too. He recently died of a brain tumor. Kenny plays football and has played for 6 years now in addition to handling dogs. He just recently played for his school’s football team, the Discovery Panthers. How impressive!
