ABOUT THIS WONDERFUL BREED

The Swedish Vallhund is a rare breed of working dog.   This ancient breed is a native of Sweden where it is known as "Vastgotaspets" which means "Spitz of the West Goths" or Swensk Vallhund (Swedish Farm Dog), its history is dated back to the Vikings 1000years ago when it was used as "a little cattle dog".

Although this wonderful little dog had always existed in Sweden, by the 1940's the breed became dangerously close to extinction.  Gladly, it was saved from extinction by the efforts of two wonderful Swedish folk.  Today there are 3 strong genetic lines found in the UK, Sweden and the USA.

Swedish Vallhunds are a small breed (30-35cm high, weighing 10-15kgs) but they are powerful, sturdy animals with incredible speed and agility.  They are intelligent and active responding well to training.  They are also very inquisitive which enhances their natural instincts for tracking (nothing escapes a Vallhund nose).

Vallhunds love to please you and to be with you (and your family) ...Yes, they love kids or anyone who likes to play "ball".   Swedish Vallhunds make great companions and brilliant family pets.  Their coat is an "easy care" short (no doggy odour) coat which can include colours of red, sable, grey, cream & white, they can be born with a tail, with a "bob" tail/ stump or without a tail.  Their most distinctive feature is a very attractive face mask.

In conclusion, I forgot to tell you about their an incredible "sense of duty" they are outstanding watchdogs (inside or outside your house).  If you live alone and want a companion who will tell you when anyone or anything enters your property, this is your dog. They take this role very seriously.
