Leaf and flower
Branch and bower
Dewdrops glisten
Creatures listen
A gentle breeze
The sigh of trees
A brush of wings
A faerie sings
by Sprite Sundream

Bid me discourse, I will enchant thine ear,
Or, like a fairy, trip upon the green,
Or, like a nymph, with long dishevell'd hair,
Dance on the sands, and yet no footing seen:
Love is a spirit all compact of fire,
Not gross to sink, but light, and will aspire.
from Venus and Adonis

Captain of our fairy band,
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?
Lord, what fools these mortals be!
from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act 3, Scene 2

Over hill, over dale,
Thorough bush, thorough brier,
Over park, over pale,
Thorough flood, thorough fire,
I do wander everywhere,
Swifter than the moon's sphere;
And I serve the fairy queen,
To dew her orbs upon the green.
The cowslips tall her pensioners be:
In their gold coats spots you see;
Those be rubies, fairy favours,
In those freckles live their savours:
I must go seek some dewdrops here
And hang a pearl in every cowslip's ear.
Farewell, thou lob of spirits; I'll be gone:
Our queen and all our elves come here anon.
from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act 2, Scene 1

Did you ever see a faerie,
A faerie,
A faerie?
Did you ever see a faerie
Go this way and that?
Go this way and that way,
And that way and this way,
Did you ever see a faerie
Go this way and that?

Through the house give gathering light,
By the dead and drowsy fire:
Every elf and fairy sprite
Hop as light as bird from brier;
And this ditty, after me,
Sing, and dance it trippingly.
First, rehearse your song by rote
To each word a warbling note:
Hand in hand, with fairy grace,
Will we sing, and bless this place.
from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act 5, Scene 1

In Spring I look gay,
Decked in comely array,
In Summer more clothing I wear;
When colder it grows,
I fling off my clothes,
And in Winter quite naked appear.

How many miles to Faeryland?
Three score and ten.
Can I get there by candlelight?
Aye, and back again.
If your feet are nimble and light,
You'll get there by candlelight.
|
Do your wings hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie 'em in a knot?
Can you tie 'em in a bow?
Can you throw 'em over your shoulder
Like a continental soldier?
Do your wings hang low?
|
Once I saw a little fae
Come hop, hop, hop.
And I cried, "Little fae,
Will you stop, stop, stop?"
I was going to the window
To say, "How do you do?"
When she shook her little wings
And away she flew.

Monday's fae is fair of face,
Tuesday's fae is full of grace,
Wednesday's fae is full of woe,
Thursday's fae has far to go,
Friday's fae is loving and giving,
Saturday's fae must work for a living,
But the fae that's born on the Sabbath day
Is fair and wise and good and gay.
