The Scottish Federation
 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Steering
 This is a class for scale and semi-scale models which must be steered around a course without touching any marks unless specified.
 The course should be a mixture of various types of gates,the distance between gates should be 1 meter.
 Models must complete the gates in order as defined on the course diagram,
 The route between gates is up to the competitor but should not consist of excessive maneuvering.
 If the bow of the boat (or stern if reversing) passes he start of the gate,
 This is an attempt and the boat must complete the gate and any penalties will be awarded.
 Only one attempt may be made at each obstacle.
 There is no time limit for completing the course.
 Course penalties are as follows:-
 Striking an obstacle or not completing a docking maneuver gains 5 points.
 Failing to negotiate an obstacle in the prescribed manner.
 (a miss, failed attempt, wrong direction or out of order) gains 10 points.
 Failure to complete the course means disqualification.
 The boat with the least number of penalties will be the winner.
 In the case of a tie a sail off will normally take place, this may be over a different course

  Standoff Scale
 This is a class for the scale models and is judged on the water.
 There is no on the table judging.
 The model must have been built by the entrant and must be sailed by the entrant.
 The model should be a scale model of a full size prototype and is judged on the handling, stability,
 scale speed etc. and general appearance.
 The model should be sailed in a realistic manner and will be judged accordingly.
 There should be at least two judges who will mark on:-
 General impression Appearance on the water
 Maneuvering Models entered in this class cannot be entered in any other scale class during the same competition.
 Winning models may not be re-entered in this class in a future competition.

 Exact Scale
 This class is judged on the table and is for both working and static models.
 The model must be of an actual full size craft and must be built by the competitor.
 The majority of the model must have been built by the competitor and any commercial fittings must be declared.
 Judging will e based on:-
 Realism Details Degree of difficulty Quality of Workmanship Finish:<>
 There is a judges bonus which can be used if there is a tie.
 Judging is done by two or more judges who should be independent if possible,
 if this can't be arranged then a judge will not judge a model from their own club.
 Models entered in this class cannot be entered in any other scale class during the same competition.
 Winning models may not be re-entered in this class in a future competition.

 Semi-Kit
This class is for models built from a commercial hull with scratch built superstructure or kits which have been heavily modified.
 The model is judged on the table and does not need to be sailed.
 Any modifications must be declared and any enhancements will be awarded extra points.
 The model must have been built by the entrant.
Judging will be based on:- Realism Details Degree of Difficulty Quality of Workmanship Finish:<>
 There is a judges bonus which can be used if there is a tie.
 Judging is done by two or more judges who should be independent if possible,
 if this can't be arranged then a judge will not judge a model from their own club.
 Models entered in this class cannot be entered in any other scale class during the same competition.
 Winning models may not be re-entered in this class in a future competition.

  Full Kit
This class is for models built from a commercial kit.
 The model is judged on the table and need not be sailed.

 Fast Electric
 This class is for restricted class fast electric racing models.
 The restricted class rules are:-  Maximum hull length is 24 inches
 The boat should be semi scale and should preferably carry a driver figure if it has an open cockpit.
 The motor must be a standard unopened 540 or equivalent with a maximum cost of £20
 A maximum of six sub-C nickel-cadmuim cells of maximum 1.4Ah capacity.
  Only plastic propellors may be used.
 A race is normally 15 to 20 laps of an M shaped course.
 If the boat misses a marker buoy it must re-round the marker, keeping out of the way of other boats.
 Deliberate ramming will lead to disqualification.
 Each competitor should have a lap counter to keep them informed o the number of laps completed.
 The winning places will be in order of completion of the course.

 I.C. Racing
 This class is for racing boats powered with an internal combustion engine.
These shall race around a course for a number of laps to be decided on the day.
 There are no restrictions on engine size or boat length,
 if disparate entries are made on the day some form of handicapping may be decided on.
 This class is rarely sailed as there is a lack of suitable water for such boats.

 R36r Yachts
 This class is for yachts to the international R36r class.
The yachts race for a number of laps around a suitable course.
 The course and number of laps to be set on the day depending on the wind. Class rules:-
 The hull excluding fittings must fit in a box 36 inches long, 9 inches wide and 11 inches deep.
 The maximum weight of the complete boat is 12 pounds
 The maximum rudder thickness is 1/2 inch
 Ballast must not be changed when racing .
 Centerboards, movable keels or trim tabs are not allowed.
 Masts and spars must be made of wood or metal, no carbon fibre allowed.
A maximum of 2 channels of radio control  
No spinnakers allowed.
The racing rules used are a simplified version of the MYA racing rules.

 Others
 There are two other classes which are rarely sailed:- 575 Class Yachts
 This is for yachts built from the 575 kit without modifications.
 Yachts are sailed round a course for either a fixed number of laps or a fixed time,
 this will be decided on the day depending on the wind conditions.
 Nomination This class is for any radio controlled model boat.
 The model is sailed around a course and is timed to an accuracy of 0.01 second.
 The competitor is then told the time and must then re--sail the
course after informing the judge of an estimated time for the course.
 This re--sail is timed and the difference between the first and second time calculated.
The lowest time difference is the winner.

 The Scottish Federation
 The Federation was formed in 1984 to bring together
 Scottish clubs and it's primary aim is to support and further all aspects of model boating in Scotland.
 The purpose of the Federation is to coordinate activities between the member clubs.
 It also provides third party insurance for it's members.
 The Federation runs a National championship for Scotland.
This was originally held at Falkirk but is now hosted by one of the
 member clubs and alternates between East and West coast clubs.
 Clubs pay an annual fee plus a sum per member to cover insurance.
 Individuals who are not club members can join as an individual member and will be insured by the Federation's policy.
 The Federation's activity's cover all disciplines of model boating, yachts,scale, fast electric and I.C.
 boats are all included in it's activities.
