Welcome to the Dojo!!! Would you like a tour? I should hope not.
You perceive but a vision of the revered Dojo (the family gets
dreadfully upset when I appear at the door with tour groups... some fuss about privacy and such...) But I can give you a tiny peek into
their lives, if that's what you desire! I ask only that you hide your
surprise if you see a little black piglet scampering around, a very, ahem,
buxom redhead kicking a large panda into a pond, a blue-haired teenage
girl breaking bricks, or hammering a boy with a pigtail... they are all quite regular occurences here. (Btw... because this is just a vision of the Dojo, the family can't actually hear you... so if you feel the urge to laugh or... snore... indulge yourself. -.^)

(My Unbearably Long Uncut Version of)
The Story
Warning: This less than brief summary is not recommended for the weak of heart, or those with bad eyes and little patience. I apologize for the inconvenience... well, actually, I revel in it! Mwahaha! And you think Kodachi's psycho? Hehehe... go forth... if
you dare! =)
The story of Ranma 1/2 centers on
Ranma Saotome, a 16 year old martial artist. After training fiercely
for most of his life with his father Genma, Ranma finally settles down
at the Tendo dojo in Nerima Japan. The reason for this? Ranma's
father has just revealed to him that he is engaged to one of the
daughters of Genma's close friend, Soun Tendo. It is decided on the day
that Ranma and his father arrive at the Tendo dojo that Ranma will be engaged
to Akane, Mr. Tendo's youngest daughter. Considering certain...
factors... it seemed that these two would make the perfect match. |
|
What factors, you ask? Well, one factor is that Akane hates boys, which
is completely understandable considering every morning before school
she has to pummel a horde of hormone-crazed boys trying to beat her
up for a date. It's even more understandable when you consider the
reason why this occurs: Tatewaki Kuno. Kuno is the 17 year old
self-proclaimed "Blue Thunder" of Furinkan High, so desperate to date
Akane that he has declared to the entire male student body that they
have to defeat Akane in battle before any of them can date her. |
|
As the school's Kendo champion, Kuno believes he is the most worthy of
Akane's love, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. He is
really nothing but a vain, poetry-spouting idiot who is dangerously
low on intellect and severely detached from reality. But, after
knowing all this, no doubt you're wondering how this would make Akane
the perfect match for Ranma. There is yet another factor...
|
 |
The other factor? Well, when poor Ranma is splashed with cold water
... surprise surprise! He turns into a girl!!! It just so happens
that on one particular training trip that Ranma took to an infamous
training ground in China, Ranma fell into a cursed spring which turned
him into a girl. But not to worry, Ranma isn't the only poor soul to
get cursed at Jusenkyou (which btw is named the Cursed Springs...
why in the world do these people bother coming here in the first place?!).
There were several others cursed after him (and ironically
because of him...), as well as his father...who now turns into a Giant
Panda. =) |
|
So here we reveal the reason why Ranma and Akane make such a
good couple, as Kasumi and Nabiki put it: "Akane, you hate boys.
Well, you're in luck - Ranma's only half boy." Wonderful, isn't it?
So here everyone is, expecting Ranma and Akane to get along perfectly
and love each other to death. They seem to accept the death part, but
not the love part. Ranma eternally views Akane as an "uncute tomboy"
and Akane views him as a "stupid pervert". As if that's a bad enough
start to a marriage, eventually a secret is revealed: Ranma has quite
a few other fiancees. |

First up we have Shampoo, the Chinese Amazon. After Ranma and
his father left Jusenkyou, they stumbled into an ancient Chinese
Amazon village looking for food. They failed to listen to the Jusenkyou
guide, who was telling them about the Amazon competition taking place
that day, and unwittingly ate the feast prepared as the first prize.
Shampoo, who had won her match, was considerably upset to see her
prize being eaten up by a young girl and a panda. So, to clear their
names, Ranma challenged her to a match, so that if he...she...won,
the prize would rightfully belong to him...her...anyway. So the match
ensued, and no big surprise here, Ranma defeated Shampoo. But she is
a very proud girl, and refusing to let it end that way, she gave
Ranma-chan the dreaded Kiss of Death: a vow to follow the woman
who tainted her Amazon honour to the
ends of the earth and kill her. Shampoo did follow Ranma, all the way
to Nerima, but as you can guess she hasn't killed him yet. The reason
is that back in China, she never knew Ranma was actually a guy. By
Amazon law, if an Amazon is beaten by a man, instead of giving him
the kiss of death, she must marry him. Shampoo does kiss him when she
realizes this, but it definitely isn't the kiss of death...*gag*

Next we have Ukyou, the Spatula Girl. She was once Ranma's best
friend back when they were little kids, though back then he never
even knew she was a girl (are you laughing yet? I know I am.). It just
so happens that Ukyou's father owned an okonomiyaki cart. Genma loves
okonomiyaki. So, with the cart as dowry, Genma agrees to engage young
Ranma to Ukyou. Both Ukyou and her father are overjoyed at the
engagement, but Genma conveniently forgets to tell Ranma about it and
then runs away with him and the okonomiyaki cart, leaving a very
pissed Ukyou behind (alright, I'm just cracking up now. Imagine a
5-year-old girl running after an old man and a cart screaming, "Come
back here you jackass!!!" and you'll know why.). Ukyou never really
recovered from her rejection, and forsook her womanhood, dressing
and acting as a boy. She also became a master okonomiyaki chef and a wiz with her
martial arts spatula (silly enough?), and swore one day she would find
that jackass Ranma and his jackass father and make them both pay for
leaving her and taking her father's cart. Years later Ukyou finds
them both in Nerima, and challenges Ranma to a death duel. He beats
her, of course, still thinking she is his old male friend
Uuchan. When he discovers she is a girl, he apologizes for what his
father did and tells her she is cute. That one comment seems to bring
back the long-forgotten woman Ukyou once was and she automatically
falls in love with him (now that is corny!).
These two are basically the main obstacles in the way of Ranma
and Akane's potential love. There are, of course, more fiancees whom
Genma never told Ranma about, like one girl named Kaori whom Genma
engaged Ranma to in exchange for a bowl of rice, a fish, and a pickle
(it's always food, you notice...). She is a martial arts takeout expert
(hmm...no, the spatula's still sillier.), and she and her father track
Ranma down to make him part of the family. But Akane beats her in a
martial arts takeout race (with a little help from Ranma) and
eliminates one of Ranma's prospective fiancees.
|
There is another girl,
who is definitely considered a very dangerous obstacle: Kodachi Kuno,
the Black Rose, the rising star in martial arts gymnastics of St.
Hebereke School (yay, another Kuno. Wondeful, isn't it?). She
despises Ranma-chan for defeating her in a martial arts gymnastics
competition, but she loves Ranma to death. And death isn't so far
away when you're loved by Kodachi Kuno. She's deadly with her ribbon,
but even |
 |
|
more with her dangerous poisons. Even worse, she's
completely insane, which definitely cannot be healthy for Ranma, or
Akane either, who is seen as an obstacle. Kodachi is pretty much a
ribbon-twirling psychopath, which is something to fear. |
|
*Sigh*... You'd think things would end there, Ranma and Akane
have things bad enough. But we've only covered Akane's rivals; now
take a look at Ranma's. |
 |
 |
There's Mousse, who is Shampoo's male Amazon friend from China.
He's nearly blind without his two-inch thick glasses, and loves
Shampoo more than anything in the world. He would be a really sweet
guy and a good match for Shampoo if she would only give him and
chance, and if he didn't hate Ranma's guts because Shampoo is in
love with him. He fights with various implements hidden in the
gigantic sleeves of his robe and is really pretty vicious in a fight;
but splash him with cold water and he's a sitting duck. Literally.
Yeah, you guessed it, another Jusenkyou victim. The first time he
arrived in Nerima Ranma beat him in battle and Mousse returned to
China, going to Jusenkyou to train. Unable to see without his glasses,
Mousse walked right into a pool and turned into a duck. I think there's
some odd Amazon law that after an Amazon is defeated, they must
return to China and train at Jusenkyou... Shampoo trained there too
after she returned from Nerima in defeat, unable to kill Ranma-chan
or marry Ranma, and fell into a particular pool that changed her
into a cat (hehehe, ironic... aw, I'll spoil it for you: guess what's
Ranma's greatest fear in the entire world, and it's not Akane's
cooking - cats! Hah!).
There's also Ryouga, the Lost Boy. He has a terrible grudge against
Ranma that started long ago, when they were classmates in elemenatary
school. He had challenged Ranma for stealing his bread, but got lost
on the way to the fight and never found him for years after.
Eventually Ryouga did pick up Ranma's track though, and reached
Jusenkyou... poor guy, fell into the Spring of Drowned Pig. Now Ryouga
changes into an adorable but feisty black piglet whenever he comes in
contact with cold water. He hates his curse and blames Ranma for it,
but that isn't the end of his grudge. When Ryouga comes to Nerima,
meeting Ranma for the first time since Jusenkyou, he meets Akane,
and he falls in love with her. She loves him too... as a piglet.
Akane adopts the little piglet as her pet and names him P-chan,
oblivious to the fact that it is really Ryouga. Ranma knows, however,
and though he never tells Akane, he gets terribly upset (and a little
jealous?) whenever he finds "P-chan" sleeping in Akane's bed. Ryouga's
main grudge against Ranma is now his mistreatment of Akane, but it
seems she is now more important than his revenge against Ranma.
Cute, but sadly, never meant to be.
Here we are, at long last, at the end of the tale (or rather, my
long summary of it). With all of these rivals and fiancees running
around, it's very difficult for Ranma and Akane to get along. Throw
in a pair of meddling parents, one money-hungry sister, an invincible
Amazon grandma, a wrinkled and perverted but powerful old man, and
a whole host of other psychos, and you've got the jumbled, messed,
but wonderfully loveable world of Ranma 1/2. It seems that the whole
world wants to keep Ranma and Akane apart, and at first they feel
the same way. But time and danger does clear t he eyes a bit, and it
seems that Ranma and Akane really don't hate each other after all.
Maybe, just, maybe... maybe they could, or already have learned to
love each other? Well, just don't mention that around them or you might
get a kick in the gut and a hammer on the head. =)
Ah, was that not a joyous experience? Mwahahaha! I did warn you
of the extreme length of this summary. So blame me not if your eyes are red and you have an ache for caffeine and junk food in your stomach. Didn't
your mother always tell you to eat before you visit a webpage? Or at least a webpage belonging to a ranting maniac like me! =) If you're truly eager for further torment, though, feel free to visit the rest of my boring-as-hell tribute pages featured below. What was that? You didn't know of the
menu bar at the bottom of the page? Hmm, I suppose I forgot to mention that before I made you read my summary. Oh well, no harm done, is that not right? Mwahahaha!!!!! Have fun!!!!!!!
