Hunting for the simple thrill of killing another living thing is a barbaric
practice which must be put to an end once and for all. It's one thing
when a poor native in an undeveloped country goes out to find some food,
but when we resort to killing as a sport then obviously something is wrong
with us. Hunters say that they're "connecting with nature."
Is that how you show your appreciation for something? You go out
and shoot it? It's just a way to make them feel more powerful.
People like to feel important. They have to dominate something,
and when a hunter goes out into the wilderness with a big fancy gun the
animals don't stand a chance.
Even if you're
hunting for food, I don't really think it's right. Every other predatory
animal hunts using its body as a weapon. They are designed to kill.
But people have to design weapons to help them kill. Even a simple
bow and arrow or a spear gives people an unfair advantage over animals.
And it's ok to have an animals head nailed to your wall, but yet killing
another person is murder? Why is it that people are so much better
than animals?
Another practice
which I also find to be unacceptable is the trapping and raising of animals
for their fur. Using methods such as leghold traps are brutal and
painful for the animal and should in my opinion be banned everywhere.
More then 70 countries have already banned leghold traps. We have
taken steps, and leghold traps have been banned in a few states, but the
vast majority still use them.
Fur farms are
just as horrible. The animals live in cramped conditions and the
way they die is not anyway I'd like to meet my demise. A common method
is genital electrocution. The killer attaches an alligator clamp
to the animal's ear and another to its genitals and flips a switch sending
a jolt of electricity through its body. According to PETA's biologist,
Leslie Gerstenfield, although the electrical current stops the heart, it
does not kill the animal; in many cases the animals remain conscious.
The electrical current causes unbearable muscle pain, at the same time
working as a paralyzing agent, preventing the victim from screaming or
fleeing. There are many other methods used, all just as cruel as
this one. A single fur coat is a luxury at the cost of not just one
animal's life, but many, many animals in most cases. Nobody
needs fur, and I see no reason why the continued murder of these animals
should happen.
Five more helpless foxes
have to die like this just to make one
fur coat.
After suffering immense pain
from the leg hold trap this coyote was then trampled to death by the trapper.
Here is what's left of a
fox after his skin is removed to make some rich fool their new fur coat.
"The
only one who
can wear a fur coat beautifully
and gracefully, is
the animal to whom it
belongs."
