The Land of Dara

Overview
Welcome to the Land of Dara. It's a fantasy campaign world we have been using for over five years.
It's a rugged land where danger and mystery reign. Broad variations in climate (from frozen
wasteland to desert heat) result in a wild mixture of creatures. Be sure to check out this
large map of Dara.
Political
The King and Queen live quietly in Oriphan (southwest). The real power in Dara is in Lamonia
(which is considered a kingdom in itself). This is currently ruled by King Graywin who took over
this walled city. It was previously ruled by King Lam prior to his assassination.
Other cities of significant military force are Eschela, Panapolis, and to a lesser extent, Belford.
These cities are walled, and have their own "mayors" who act as elected Lords over the city and
nearby surrounding land. Most other cities in Dara are farming villages.
Population
Central and southern Dara have mainly human inhabitants. The northern regions (north of Grenlock)
include the dwarven cities of Drell, Og, Coldstone and Eastbank. The Forests of Abar, the nearby
Surin Valley, Darkwood, Estbirch, and the Valley of Kings contain higher elven populations in the
north. Fayeburg and Makaktri have elven populations in the south. Half-elves are common in most
cities, especially Prandt, Halica, and Panapolis.
Legends and Lore
Ka'nai Nerulok - This place is very strange. It has a soft of "Bermuda Triangle"
effect in which travellers disappear, creatures appear, and strange weather patterns eminate. Most
characters will want to avoid this unless there is an explicit reason why they should enter. Some
believe this is a gate to the plane of Pandemonium.
Pirik's Peninsula - This is a forested area (see P on the large map) where an old
white cleric lives in an impenetrable 15'x15' solid white tower (eleven stories high). Only the pure
of heart can find the door to enter at the base of the tower (i.e. Good PCs). Each level of his
tower has a "test of morality" which very few have passed. If the characters want help fron this
cleric, they must ascend the levels of his tower.
Treedon - Travellers might pass through this place and not even know they are in
the middle of a town! It is a Hobbit (or Halfling) town, and all of the "houses" are imbedded in
the green rolling hills. Each place has a little round wooden door, and other than the smell
of freshly brewing tea at about 4 o'clock, the town is rather hard to spot. Taller travellers
might have to stoop down to fit into the little homes.
Okesa Fault - Many avian creatures live in the nooks and crags of this deep
trench. Characters who are equipped to descend the rocky cliffs could discover many hidden
treasures there. The catch is that almost any location in Okesa leaves one vulnerable to
attack.
