Example AD&D Handouts

Dear Demandra,

I know that we have had our differences lately, however, I must forsake our petty quarrel in light of a new problem. An exiled military leader of Lamonia is building force near my city. His name is Graywin. He has a particular loathing for wizards in general and our school in particular. My sources state that there is some possibility of him regaining power in Lamonia. He may exercise both his power and his hatred in oppressing those of us who remain visible. You don't strike me as the type who likes to hide underground. I have told you what I know. What you wish to do about it is up to you.

Polarius

P.S. You still owe me 523 gold for breaking my lamp.

Graywin, my Lord:

Your force in Seconia seems to be misbehaving. Some disciplinary action is certainly appropriate. In my wisdom I have seen that many great leaders have fallen due to lack of disciplining their troops. I do not wish for you to be one of them.

With you strategic prowess combined with my powers of foresight, we are sure not to fail in our quest for greatness. Although this blockage prevents me from seeing about myself, you can rest assured that the images of you are both strong and positive. To the new reign!

Aramaeus
642nd year of our soon-
to-be dethroned King

Journal Entry 1

It has been a long time since I have attempted something as dangerous as this. Yet I know it is for the greater good.

Journal Entry 2

I somehow find it easy to pose as someone else. It has been two months now, and I have kept my identity secret. The moment in which I must act is drawing ever-nearer, as the townsfolk are gradually being encited to rebellion by this madman. I have been delaying the decision to act, but I think there is a problem with this. In the time I have waited, he has killed three more men. Yet if I act now, I may endanger his life and my own more than necessary. Should a man value his own life more than his brother? I think not. In that case, I should act as soon as possible.

Journal Entry 3

I have learned from the townsfolk that the 'assassination' is to be a trap. They plan to encase some sort of explosive spell in one of the wine bottles. Fortunately I was able to get an exact description of which bottle they used. They certainly did their homework. How could these plebs know that my brother has a taste for only the oldest wine? I was going to go down yesterday and confiscate it, but I realized that they told me even handling the bottle can set it off.

Prize Fight At Bentley Square

Come one, come all. This refereed fight will allow you to pitt your strength against the town's best. A ribbon will be awarded to the winner, along with a prize of 500 fenarii. Last year's winner: Johann Gerstoff. Will he be the victor again this year?

Dear Ra's al Ghul,

I have been supervising the activity within the city very carefully. It seems that Graywin has indeed returned to the city, more than once. I have had one of my 'friends' follow him, for more information. I will keep you informed.

Tepin

P.S. Your daughter is very pretty.

Dear Patron,

You and a guest are cordially invited to a dinner with the Baron Vintreckt of Rygul at his stately manor north of Amstead. Please dress appropriately. Dinner will be served at 7 in the evening. This is to commemorate this unifying event and honour its victor. Good day.
