Chapter
11- Life, Love, and Loss
(Warning: this chapter and others
depict scenes of graphic violence. Enjoy!)
Brock sighed sleepily as the warm sun broke the
horizon. Looking about, he discovered he was in the one place he begged not to
be when he woke up. In a wet, dark, makeshift hospital. He groaned and wiped
off his face with his sleeve, sitting up, taking a look around. It was the same
as last night, though everyone was asleep. He chuckled to himself as he saw
Jessie and James, who had fallen asleep back-to-back. They would make a
terrible couple, he thought, but they do look kinda cute together. Standing up,
he wiped off his shirt, when something caught his eye. Looking out the window,
his heart sank, and he saw Felicia, bloody and unmoving on the ground not four
feet from the house entrance.
“ Felicia!!!” he cried, bolting out the door and
kneeling beside her. She looked up with weak, drowsy eyes, ones that used to be
dazzling brown diamonds now reduced to dull embers; she rolled over slightly
and gazed up at him.
“ Bro..ck….?” She mumbled, her dirty hair stringing
in locks down her face. Brock sat her up, taking her in his arms.
“ Felicia, are you…” He was about to ask, when he
saw the jagged cut down her forearm. It was now encrusted with dried blood, but
the telltale sighs of how much she had actually lost was dried and stained in
her clothing.
“ Oh God….we need to get you to a real hospital!!!”
“ No..no..” She mumbled, pushing herself up and onto
her feet.
“ I’ll be..alright…” Losing her balance, she
collapsed right into Brock’s arms, her forehead resting against his chest with
a soft thump. He scooped her up, finding her suprisingly light for her age, and
was about to carry her into the center, when the sound of footsteps stopped
him.
“ What is that?” he said, turning around to face the
hill the center as built to the west of. He watched as two four-legged
silhouettes grew closer and closer.
“ No way!!” he said, surprised to find the Falcor
and Razar carrying two slumbering passengers: Ash and Misty, with Pikachu
napping on Razar’s head. He just watched in awe as the two dogs approached him,
the huge Falcor’s wings draped one over Razar and himself to act as blankets
for the two, and looked up at him with bright eyes.
“ Coorrr…Fal?” the large winged gray one chirped.
(Is this…the right place?)
“ Razar…. zarzarra” the smaller teal one responded.
(Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is the rest house.)
“ Falllcor!!” It said, looking straight up at Brock.
(Are you the keeper?)
“Uhhh…I don’t understand you…” Brock said. Suddenly,
under the covering of Falcor’s black feathers, Misty began to wake on Razar’s
back. She propped herself up, looking up at Brock.
“ Oh, hey Brock! Looks like Razar finally found
you…good dog!” She said, rubbing Razar’s fur.
“ These are YOURS??” He exclaimed. Misty laughed.
“ No, just Razar and Tokka. Falcor is Ash’s, not
mention that awful Kontra thing.”
“ How the HELL did YOU catch those????”
Misty glared at him, dismounting Razar and standing.
Brock shut up.
“Ash, wake up!!!” She said, giving him a tasteful
whack on the head. He rolled over, obviously forgetting he was on a Pokémon,
and falling flat on the ground. Grumbling and rubbing his head, he stood up and
looked around.
“ Hey! Falcor got us to the rest house!”
“ I don’t think so.” Misty countered. “ It was all
Razar. Your Falcor just tagged along.”
“ Hey!!!” he
exclaimed. “ Falcor is just as smart as…”
“ ENOUGH!!!!” Brock bellowed. They both looked up at
him.
“ We have GOT to find the rest of the Pokémon and
get off this island. Felicia is really hurt and she needs help, not your
bickering!!”
Suddenly, the rest house shook with shouts and
crashes. Brock winced.
“Looks like Jessie and James are awake..”
*****
“ A
BOG!! Of all things, you had to fall into a BOG!!” Aya yelled, keeping a quick
pace along the road.
“
Hey, it wasn’t my fault!!” Inferno exclaimed, trotting along beside her.
“
If you hadn’t pulled that STUPID parlor trick, we would have gotten a lot more
done, not to mention meeting Ash at the rest house on time!!” Ember scolded
him.
“
It wasn’t even funny!” Tidal added. Inferno bowed his head.
“
Geeze, FINE!!! I’m sorry!!”
“
Just shut up, Inferno, SHUT UP!!!” Aya yelled. “ I’ve had enough of your
excuses.”
“Guys!!”
Shadowcat called, swooping down and circling them. “ I can see the house from
here!”
“
Finally!!” Tidal yelled, he and Ember breaking into a dead run.
“
Wait for me!!” Inferno shouted, running along.
“All
right! Prize catches!” said a man’s voice, which immediately halted Tidal and
Ember, causing Inferno to crash into them like a highway accident. Aya looked
behind her to see a rugged looking man, about six-foot, with a bag of Safari
pokeballs.
“ I
knew I’d find some Pokemon sooner or later! You are all MINE!”
Aya
laughed and crossed her arms. “ I don’t think so.” She said confidently.
The
man laughed, rubbing his bristly chin. “Oh, a smart-alek, huh? Well, you’ll do
fine in my collection. Pokeball, Go!!”
The
man threw a crystal pokeball, which Aya simply knocked back to him with the
Raichu bolt on her tail.
“
Like I said!” Aya yelled. “ We’re not up for capture!”
“
Shut Up!” The man demanded. “ I’ll have to weaken ya first! Go, Brambler!!”
“Brambler?”
Aya scoffed. “Is that the best you can do?”
The
dog-sized white creature appeared; a healthy pair of black eyes staring right
at her, its tail swinging proudly.
“
Brambler! Attack that Pokemon! Cyclone attack, now!”
“BramBBler!!”
It screeched. Aya rolled up her sleeves, obviously about to enjoy using her
powers, when suddenly the wrring of tires and the roar of an engine twitched
her left ear, and she spun around to see Brock driving Felicia’s red Cherokee,
with Tidal, Ember, and Inferno already in the front seat. Ash leaned out of the
side door, extending an arm.
“ Hey Aya! Jump in!”
Aya nodded, obviously not caring about her rival as
she scampered up Ash’s arm, down his back, and into the back seat with he,
Misty and James (who had traded Jesse his makeshift seat on the way home). She
smiled a little and looked up at Ash, who was in turn looking at her with close
interest, sitting in his lap. She flicked her ear a tad.
“ Like what you see?” She teased.
“ You’re just… neat looking.” Ash stated, rubbing
the light coat of tan fur on her head. Something he touched made her ears perk
up, and she melted, purring without a care of how silly she looked. Ember,
sitting next to her in Misty’s arms, giggled a little as the normally
humanoid-minded Ayachu rubbed her cheek against Ash’s hand, licking his
fingertips thankfully for the caress.
“Never thought I’d EVER see that.” Shadowcat joked
from his perch above James’ head, laughing to his inflated feathers. Aya smiled and shrugged.
“ When was the last time someone petted you?”
Misty
yawned a little and looked out onto the seemingly endless stretch of road ahead
of the hood ornament.
“ Brock,
how long will it take to get to the bridge?”
“
About twenty minutes. It took us about two hours to get there from the center,
so just relax. This is gonna be a while.”
Misty
cocked an eyebrow. “ Since when have you known how to drive?”
Brock
went a bit scarlet. “ Well, being that I was the oldest, my father back in
Pewter taught me early, before he left.”
“Oh.”
She yawned again, laying her head back on the seat. She had no idea why she was
tired all of a sudden, she had slept rather well on her Razar’s back, but maybe
it was just fatigue from all the running. Slowly, the soft movement of the car
and the wind blowing across her face lulled her, and she was soon in a soft
sleep.
***
The concealed laughter in his deep
craw and barreled chest caused the darkness around him to ripple like waves.
The water pool he used to watch them like a window showed the clear image of
Misty’s sleeping beside Ash in the back of the car. Hot blood dripped from his
talons, and his eyes began to glow.
“
Sleep is vulnerability, Misty my dear…” he chuckled psychically.
“
But now in this state I can see through to your very darkest of desires…and
that might not be exactly what you want…”
And
with a wave of his foreclaw, Misty’s dreamless sleep slowly mutated into an
emotion rollercoaster from hell…
***
The dark was almost exactly what Misty
desired right about now. With the sight before her, bodies she knew scattered
about as if no more than chew toys, the rim of blue on her lips and the hot red
river on her leg, the flames devouring her world, she was using all the
memories of anger and hate she could to keep herself from crying…she knew if
she shed a single saline tear, her body would crumple, and she would collapse
amongst the battlefield, and never regain her footing.
“
Oh…My…G-god…” She mumbled, holding herself from shivering. Her friends…Brock,
mauled against a nearby wall…Jesse, her body slashed and thrown against James’
at the flames’ edge…Pikachu…and Felicia, on her stomach in a beaten pool of
red, her satiny brown hair hiding her face. Misty could feel the almost
strangulating feeling of intoxicating death…and evil. The burning of fur caught
her senses off guard, and she willed herself to see Aya, Ember, Tidal,
Shadowcat, and Inferno in a bonfire heap.
“
What the hell happened here…” She could feel herself of the edge of tears.
You can’t cry she told herself. You’ll die if you let yourself go
“
Why did you leave me?”
Misty
spun around, almost collapsing, at the sound of his voice. There, half-hidden
by pure dark, was Ash. His hat was gone, his clothes were shredded, and he had
a look of hurt and angst in his eye.
“
Ash…” She said, her eyes welling. “ What happened? Are you alright??”
“
You left me. The moment you left me, he attacked. You said you loved me!! You
said you wouldn’t leave!!!”
“
What??” She said, hurt by his words. “ I never said-“
“
True or false: Exactly one year ago, on the outskirts of Cerulean, nightfall,
you promised yourself you’d never leave me. You promised yourself you’d grow to
love me one day!!!”
“ I
did!!” She wailed, unaware of the tears she could no longer hold falling down
her face.
“
No! You didn’t keep your promise. The moment you let me go, the moment you took
your eyes off me in the hellfire of that battle…”
Ash
took a step foreword into the light, revealing the bloody, disfigured,
gruesomely shredded side of his handsome face. Misty came close to vomiting as
she stared at him.
“
That was the moment I DIED!!!”
“
NOHOOO!!!” She screamed.
Then
the nightmarish laughter of the Himalya-sheunden dragon filled the air…
***
Ash snickered as he watched Tidal and Inferno
wrestle one another in the crook of the seats at his feet. Yawning from his
exhaustion, he involuntarily laid his arm over the head of the seat by the
dozing Misty. Switching his gaze from Aya playing with a sleeping James’s hair
out of boredom, he gazed at the young girl beside him. Her hair fluttered in
the wind and the tips were tanned with dried sweat from running, the shadows
gently caressed her youthful face as she slept. Ash’s heart swelled as he
sighed deeply, of pride and desire. It broke his heart to know such a beautiful
young creature could harbor such a hatred of him. He winced as the feeling of
her hit stung gain on his face from two nights before. He had enjoyed kissing
her- he treasured it. She was so soft and innocent yet raw and rich and
throbbing with life. He wanted to kiss her again and again, feel her against
him, and taste the rest of that life he had momentarily sampled. But again he
was reminded of the way he appalled her, and let his mind drift to the wind
whipping through his spiky black hair. Even the way they had embraced with
laughter after the Kontra had fallen to him didn’t replace the hurt in his
heart from his cheek.
He froze when she moaned a little, not very happily,
her eyebrows creasing and her eyes visibly moving under their heavy lids. She’s dreaming… he realized. Or…Could it be a nightmare?
“What are you dreaming of?” he muttered tenderly to
her, pushing her hair back a little, feeling a sense of protection towards her.
“ Will you ever tell me?”
“
Why don’t you just tell her?”
Ash
jumped and spun his head around, seeing Aya watching him with her elbows
resting on her pillows; folds of James’ blue hair.
“
Tell who what?” he faked stupidity. Aya sweatdropped.
“ I’m
no stupid animal…. I can read it in your thoughts, see it in your eyes…. You
love her.”
Ash
opened his mouth to speak, but Aya’s glare silenced him. He started at his
feet.
“ I
could never…”
“
Why?”
“
She hates me…you see the way she treats me, the way she’s appalled by my
attempts at bravery, my attempts to be the Master I’ll probably never be.”
“
Ash…” Aya began, slipping over behind his head and holding onto his hair.
“Never
assume anything… she could love you from afar but be far to afraid of heartbreak
to reveal it in the slightest.”
“
Yeah right.” He said with chokes of sadness in his voice.
Aya
sighed and replaced her position at James’ neck, solemnly, for her friend,
returning to making small dreadlocks out of James’ blue mane.
Ash
jumped a little and watched as Misty’s head thumped onto his shoulder when
Brock hit a pothole. He rested his hand on her arm and sighed.
“
You’ll hate me for this when you wake up…but I’ll take that chance.”
Aya
watched as Ash rested his head ontop of Misty’s and shut his eyes, holding her
as best he could. Her heart sank.
“
Poor kid….”
But in the makeshift back seat, next
to a slumbering Jessie, Meouth was grinding his claws into the soft pad of his
paws, causing blood to stain his fur. His pupils were dilated and rimmed with
red. His charm had turned an evil black, and no longer shined.
“
Very very soon now…very very soon!! Nyah Nyah!! MMEEEOUTH!!” he cackled.
***
Night was lightly brushing the land as
Brock pulled up to the Indigo Village Pokémon center. He gently lifted sleeping
Felicia into his arms and shut the door with his hip, jarring Ash awake. He
yawned and smacked his lips, realizing Misty had snuggled even closer to him in
her sleep. His heart fluttered, then his attitude was one of worry when he saw
the tears stained on his black shirt. She had been crying...over a dream? Must
have been awful…he had never seen Misty cry.
“
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE??” James shrieked as he saw the mass of dreadlocks that was
once his neatly parted hair. Jesse laughed.
“
You look like an idiot!!”
James
turned around and gave her a very angry look, which oddly and promptly silenced
her, then stormed inside. Ash nudged Misty gently.
“
Wake up…wake up Misty…we’re here.”
Misty
groaned a little, but didn’t awaken. Another tear slipped from her eye, and
Ash’s heart melted. He very carefully lifted her into his arms, cradling her
against his chest, and walked inside, swollen with pride; Pikachu riding his
shoulders.
Brock set Felicia down on her feet,
helping her steady herself. She held her head, and gazed up at Brock, with sad,
guilty eyes. She knew soon Brock wouldn’t look at her with the same kindness,
the same compassion…he would see her as a monster.
“
Thank you…you’re very kind…”
“
No problem…hey, you were hurt.”
Felicia
looked down, and gently tugged at his jacket.
“
If you’ll get the others…I can show you where we can tend any wounds, freshen
up.” Then she walked up the stairs. Brock motioned to James, who followed,
scratching the bandage at his side, Jessie following. Meouth trotted along
behind, his eyes now dull and soulless. Ash and Misty were left downstairs.
***
The group of them entered slowly as
they were led into the shadowy unknown expanse of Felicia’s bedroom. It was
very dark, candles in Cubone-skull shaped candleholders let a little glow float
in the air. A mass of silky red robes and pillows were huddled in a mass on the
floor near the corner, and almost all of the left wall was an open window and
balcony, giving a prefect view of that night’s full harvest moon.
“
Weird…” James muttered. Jessie decked him.
“
Its not polite to comment on other culture’s taste!”
“
Who said I was polite?” he countered.
As
Felicia walked towards the back of the room, she felt a familiar child-like
music play in her mind. It sounded like a tune from a baby’s toy, or a music
box. The brown of her eyes took on a slight glow as the soul in them drained…a
last tear of woe slipping from their once-beautiful brown frames.
“
This way.”
Brock and James followed close, while Jesse slowed
to look at objects on the various modern-style entables. Candles- tribal-looking
artifacts...and a statue of a large red dragon. It was coiled limb after limb
around the erect black surface of a crystal, with yellow hair that hid its
eyes. Its wings were extended, making the small statue seem much larger. She
reached out and picked it up, cradling it in the shredded palms of her black
gloves. It was only a piece of stone, but it filled her with awe. Her eyes
drifted to a dusty picture frame, laid flat, on which the dragon sat. She
reached out with her free hand and picked it up, looking at the portrait. It
was Felicia- not any younger…much happier…in the arms of a tall man, teenage
yet strong, with fire-red hair and cold blue eyes contrary to the laughing
smile on his lips. Earrings of all sorts hung from his right ear, some extending
as far as his collarbone. The two seemed happy…almost loving. Suddenly, KER-smack!!!
Felicia’s hand came with hard force slapping Jesse’s hand, making her drop the
dragon and the picture. They landed unharmed on the blood red robes below.
“ Oww!…Hey!” She exclaimed. Felicia’s eyes were
sharp, angry and very serious.
“ Its rude to look at other people’s things, Ms.
Jessie!”
Her
eyes had tamed Jessie’s attitude. “Sorry...Feli-”
Felicia smacked her hard enough to knock her over.
She landed hard on the robes. Jesse scrambled to her hands and knees.
“ Hey!!! I said I was sorry!! What was that for??
Who is that guy anyway??”
Felicia grabbed her by her collar hard, holding her
up off the floor.
Her eyes scared Jessie, for they were cold and dark
and psychotic…lifeless like a drone.
“
Shut up.” She said.
“
Hey Felicia, where’s the peroxide?” Brock yelled from the other room.
“
Coming!” Felicia replied in a happier tone before throwing Jessie to the floor.
She paralyzed her with one glare, and Jesse curled immobile on the floor. Her
heart was quick and truly afraid…knowing there was no one to protect her from
Felicia’s fury.
“
Your time will come.” She hissed, before turning and walking out.
***
Aya stared in the window at Ash’s devotion to the
young girl. She sighed and pulled her coat around her.
“
Ayachan?” Shadowcat asked, standing by her.
“
Look at him. Its really in him…he’s so devoted to his Pokémon…so devoted to
her…devoted to everything. The song of life itself throbs in his veins. Don't
tell me you can’t feel his power when you’re near him.”
“ I
can…why does it bother you?”
“
You know Himalya’s coming is soon.”
Shadowcat
sighed. “ Unfortunately.”
“
We need him. Or we’re all doomed. You know that.”
Shadowcat
said nothing, just gently nuzzled his feathered crown against her head. She
sighed, deep in thought, and accepted his touch. They smiled at each other,
their eyes shining.
“
Ayachan?”
Aya
looked down, to find their three cohorts smiling up at them.
“ I
heard you. We did.” Inferno said.
“
You think…Ash is the one?” Ember peeped.
Aya
nodded. “ He and Misty and Brock….it flows in all of them.”
“
What about…” Inferno began. “ The others?”
“
Jessie and James you mean?”
Inferno
nodded.
“
Why?”
Inferno
lowered his head, and his ears. “ I may be young…but I can feel the power
too…and I felt it in that young man the other night.”
“
You think James is a carrier too?” Tidal queried.
Inferno
nodded. Ember giggled.
“
That guy is goofy…I like him.”
Inferno
inhaled deeply, and his fellow Guardians ignored him.
***
Ash laid Misty down on the couch,
kneeling by her head.
“
Why won’t you wake up??” he asked, worried for her. Still she didn’t move, only
moaned fearfully in her impending nightmare. He whimpered a little and caressed
her face with his hand.
“
Please open your eyes…whats wrong with you…”
“
Ash?” Aya tugged on his pant leg. “ Can I speak to you?”
“Hmm?”
he asked quietly.
Aya
took a deep breath. " Something is going to happen soon."
She
pressed her small finger against his shredded shirt, over his heart.
"
Inside you can overcome it, but I don't want you to let fear hold you
back."
Ash
blinked. " WHAT are you talking about?"
Aya
flicked an ear. " I think you know."
"
I don’t! And right now I don't care!"
Aya
was taken a little aback. Ash growled.
"
Right now all I want to hear is Misty's voice...I want her to be well again,
and I'm not leaving her side, I don't care if the worlds gonna end!"
Aya
was about to open her mouth, when...
“
AAHH!”
James’
voice echoed upstairs before several loud thumps hit the floor. Ash stood up
and looked in the direction all his friends had gone. Suddenly, Felicia
appeared with a bloody model of a dragon in her hand, half hidden by the
shadows. Blood spread across the side of her face, as if someone had clawed at
her, struggling. Her face, painted with crimson like war, told the story of
ambush, deceit, and pain.
Aya
growled, and her mind began to echo…a small voice screaming… “ Help me!!!!”
“
Its time for you…boy…”
“
WHAT??!!” Ash exclaimed.
***
In the alternate dimension, the vision
pool bubbled and steamed and overflowed. The dragon spread his wings up to
their full extent, his many coils muscular and throbbing for release from his
prison. He raised his body up and released his compacted muscles, his wings,
his limbs and his mind…his razor-tipped talons seized the wall, pressing
against it like a child yearning to breathe. His eyes began to glow; he thought
nothing of destroying the messenger if it meant opening a passage from his
transdimentional prison into the other dimension. This was HIS time! It was to
be his kingdom, to tear and gnaw at the soul of the pure and drink of the blood
of youth! He would bathe in the tears and laugh as the bones and spirits coiled
about his body trying but never to touch their tormenter! And with the
guardians dead, HE_ WOULD_ BE_ PERFECT!!!!!
Ash watched in horror and amazement as
the ground beneath Felicia’s feet opened and whirled with wind and light. She
cackled and laughed as her frame was lifted above the floor. But suddenly, not
a struggling victim but Meouth stumbled into the hallway. His eyes were dilated
all the way, his charm was broken and he held his chest as a stream of blood
ran down his lips. Felicia lifted up the kitten as he began to kick and yowl in
pain.
“
Hush, hush baby…you don’t know how great a gift your pain is...with your death
you grant unto this realm and the next the blessing of eternal life…”
“
Who do you think you are, or what are you?!?” Ash demanded. Felicia paid him no
heed. She lifted Meouth over her head
and he convulsed, and a tiny bit of blood oozed from the fur of his chest, like
something within him trying to be freed. Ash and Aya gasped as it happened
again and again, poor Meouth shedding tears of fear and pain; he was no longer
under any control, and he was afraid…it hurt so much, and he didn’t know what
was going to happen.
“
Jessie…. James…. Help…” He whimpered and cried as the pain got worse.
Felicia
laughed; her teeth feral fangs. “ This will be your gift to him, Nyarthe!! The
prophecy is complete!!!”
The beast from the cavern
has control over her!! Aya psychically yelled to Ash. Fight the feelings inside, don’t hate, its
what he wants!! See the real Felicia’s tears, not this demon’s foam! Remember
what the creature did to THE ONE YOU LOVE!!
“
NO!!!!!” Ash yelled. At that second as Felicia’s lips met ending her
declaration, Meouth’s chest split. He cried, Felicia laughed, and a seeping
black hurricane enveloped the room. A deep rustling laugh of triumph overcame
the howling wind and struck dark, passionate fear into Aya and Ash. The suction
of black night became too great, and with the feeling of the fluid in his
sinuses mixing with stinging heat, the young boy, the hero Ash collapsed, as
thunder and the noise of unaltered chaos crashed through the small building and
Felicia’s true innocent scream rang shrill into the night.
***
What felt like eons later, Ash forced himself to
awaken. The stinging in his head was unreal. It was burning like fire. He
opened his dark amber eyes to view a slightly red-tinted world around him. His
eyes burned as well. Ash coughed like mad, saliva dripping from his mouth as he
picked himself
up.
Wait…
The debris of wood and glass surrounded him. The
entire building was gray…everything was gray…the sky he could see from the hole
in the roof (what was left of it) was a dark, psychotic blue…a spiral of light spanning
out from a central point in the overcast blanket of clouds. He felt a breeze
blow through the rags of his coat as he stood, Pikachu weak and afraid in his
arms. As he saw the sky, he seemed to understand. He wasn’t afraid or even
distressed by the alternate type world around him. He looked around, and though
a song of determination and love of freedom sang in his mind, his heart sank.
The beautiful building was destroyed. Nothing remained but wood and the echo of
tears. He looked coldly to his left, to see what was left of Ayachu. To his
surprise, he
saw Felicia…the Felicia that was true…with her arms tightly wrapped around not
only Aya…but Meouth as well, holding them close and safe to her heart. She
appeared to have dived for them, her forehead looked bruised, her hair was wild
from the wind of the previous night. Her eyes were streaked with tears,
innocence she could not express any other way.
Ash felt something about her…He had heard her cry as
the black began to flash, the shadows, her pain, he had heard her.... And she
lay crumpled on the floor nearby him, Lucifer clinging to her waist, a droplet
of blood at her lip. He knew, he felt that Aya was wise, and that this was the Felicia that he had never seen. He bent over and shook
her arm lightly to rouse her. After a moment she moaned in a voice more
beautiful than he had heard, not the gruff tone she had spoken in previously.
Again he tried to
shake her to conciseness, this time her brown eyes fluttering open then
squinting from the pain.
“
A-Ash?” She whimpered.
But Ash’s eyes were locked somewhere else. His fists
clenched as he stood, his teeth bared and his eyes welling with red-hot tears
of hate and fear and love in his eyes. He swore at the sight then and there he
would conquer this. He would not let the evil win. His love for his friends was
power overall, and though he knew more pain and horror lay ahead, as Aya had
said, he was not afraid.
Felicia
stood to see what Ash saw. She understood what he was feeling…and she felt it
as well…
