Orphaned as a child, Damon O'Connell grew up prowling the
streets of New Orleans as a petty thief. He was taken in with a
circus of freaks who were backed by a secret organization that used
the circus for criminal activities, as well as for expiramentation
into supergenetics. One such expirament gave Damon his powers.
After discovering the truth behind the Scarelli Bros. circus, Damon
brought the organazation down, along with the help of his mentor,
Al Weathers, the circus' former "Alligator Man". The head of the
organazation, and its true intent, remain a mystery. Inspired by
other superheroes, Damon took the name Shard, to reflect his
ability to shrink and his broken life, and swore to make amends for
his past transgressions. He met and joined ARClight during the Gene
Lord incident.
Personality and Motivation
Shard tends to be a bit brash and irreverent, jumping into things
often without considering the consequences. He doesn't take life
too seriously, and has a strong streak of overconfidence that has
landed him into hot water on more than one occassion. He's fiercely
loyal to those he considers friends, probably because he hasn't had
many. He also feels the need to atone for the criminal activities
of his youth, and probably tries all the harder for it. Oh yeah,
he loves to drink.
Powers/Tactics
Shard can manipulate his mass to shrink down to roughly 1/3 an
inch in height. He can do this by "shedding" his mass, or by
compacting it. In the latter case, his body becomes incredibly
dense, giving him inhuman levels of strength and resistance. In
this state, he can make subtle shifts in his mass to ride even
small drafts of air. In combat he uses his power to surprise
opponents, and can slip into their inner ear and deliver a dizzing
attack on their equilibrium. He tends to save his lowest levels of
shrinking for sneaking about, and usually operates at 3"-6" in
height.

As Shard, Damon wears a blue and red suit with a gold belt and gold
chain that attaches a half cape at his back. The chain has a large

a triangular red "shard" pattern.

Doesn't patrol anywhere in particular, though does keep an eye out around the gym he teaches at in Midtown.

Probably some type of social service that helped orphaned or foster care children get the guidance they need to make something of themselves. That, and a private island off the coast of Costa Rica where there was an unlimited supply of maragaritas!

He has an apartment south of Ponce. It's a cheap area, and a good one to keep an eye on. Right in between ARCLight HQ and the gym. He also keeps a room at ARCLight HQ, usually staying there half the time. He tends to prefer it next to an empty apartment.
