Stormwatch

"There is nothing wrong with you . . .  that I can’t fix with my hands," says Stormwatch softly as she slowly walks toward the once fleeing criminal, now caught in the dead end alley in downtown Atlanta.  The sound of the MARTA  train comes fast overhead and covers the criminals screams.  "You say society made you.  I’ll unmake you."   The criminal spends the rest of the evening taking a ride screaming, bound to the front  of a MARTA train, on the outside.

Origin and Background

Tuesday’s Child

Tuesday’s child is full of grace, and perhaps grace is what best describes Stormwatch The Dame of the Night. (Dame being the feminine of Knight.)  A striking vision with her hair in gravity-defying, long, skinny braids, and with a level of body development that seems impossible for any human female.  Exotic and weird, the effect transcends sexuality, with feminine and masculine blending into a seamless, natural androgyny.  Stormwatch is the type the media -- always hungry for appetizing new heroes -- should have a great time devouring.  She is androgynous without being freakish; strong without being butch; provocative without being pretentious.  The mystery of Stormwatch The Dame of the Night is mostly unrevealed.

The Dame of the Night

Her name (or so she says) is Chase Claudia Black.  Chase survived a "suburban melodrama".  She grew up in Atlanta, the daughter of a Marine turned FBI special agent.  When Chase was five, her parents divorced.  Although her mother received custody, she and her lover kidnapped little Chase, taking her to the Orient, her mother's homeland.  Traumatized, Chase, then six years old, became withdrawn and stopped talking.   Chase was returned to the States and sent to a psychiatrist.  She was tested and found to have an extremely high IQ and imagination.  Another gift was discovered, although not superhuman: Chase’s senses are at the highest level of known human limit.  Her senses were razor sharp.  Chase remained sensitive and withdrawn, preferring to spend time alone studying and working on martial arts, something she picked up from her time in the Orient.  Chase was accelerated through school and labeled as a gifted child.   But, soon after this chaotic childhood and an accelerated education, she changed forever.

The Dame of Death

Chase was born on a Tuesday, and one Tuesday she disappeared.  By fifteen, Chase was a child of the streets, involved in the drug culture and vices of that lifestyle.  Running with her sisters in a street gang, high on she doesn’t remember what, a night of crime went terribly wrong.  Her gang was killed, sans (apparently) only her, and she was being charged in the death of a police officer.  She was captured only when the amazingly high amount of drugs in her system overpowered her.  Chase was then taken by the government after the drug-induced crime, and trained as a special operative, assassin and warrior.  Her records erased, her existence deleted, she was no longer able be tracked.  Insurgence, extractions, assassinations and computer espionage were her areas of specialty.  From Desert Storm to the Golden Triangle, Chase saw it all and did the government's dirty work.  After one mission however, she was "lost".  Now believed dead by the government who helped create her, Chase stripped many "hidden" government accounts with her computer skills, then disappeared into the Orient.

The Lost Years

These lost years were apparently spent training with someone she had met during her kidnapping -- someone close to her family or her mother.  This is the area of Chase’s life about which it is most difficult to get answers. All that is known is that she achieved a level of mastery with Aikido / Aiki-Jutsu / Swordmanship that has given her a worldwide reputation as one of -- if not the -- finest hand-to-hand combatants in the world.

The Worst Weapon I Know Is The Look In Your Eye

With her knowledge and abilities related to the darker side of society, the criminal element hasn’t much of a chance and indeed the recent crime reports concerning Atlanta seem to confirm this.  Word on the streets is that she isn’t human, she’s a force of nature.  Graffiti on the streets reads "Dame’s City".   Stormwatch has connections with the APD and the FBI, and she is often a welcomed asset on the tough cases.  Now Stormwatch has associated herself with ARCLight, and seems to be able to hold her own, even with her lack of any real "superpower".   She gets along well with the other members of the team, even with her attitude, and has come to be a real team player.  She still is the terror of the Atlanta underworld however, hating to see life wasted as she almost wasted her own.  Batman, The Dark Knight,  has Gotham City,  and Stormwatch, The Dame of the Night has Atlanta.

But Stormwatch is real.

Personality and Motivation

Although her methods are dark and often violent, she has honor and a noble cause.  She hates to see life wasted, as she almost wasted her own.  While she lacks any "real superpowers", she can easily handle herself against those with "superpowers".  Often these were her targets in her darker, assassin times, and she did just fine.  She is still alive. They aren’t.

Powers/Tactics

Almost inhuman agility, intellect, stamina and strength; senses that approach the superhuman; and a mastery of Aikido / Aiki-jutsu make Stormwatch into the one woman, force against crime that she is.  Her level of physical development is at least olympic ability in almost all areas.  Her senses allow her another world of sensation, unknown to humans.  And, lastly Stormwatch, with her martial and weapon skills, is considered one of the finest combatants in the world.  A sharp mind, as well as a sharp body, she often just outsmarts her prey, rather than just resorting to her own special form of wetworks.  She has a wide variety of skills, from her vast (and unknown to the rest of the team) experience:  criminal underworld, assassin training and the military (desert storm / special ops,) to draw upon in her adventures.

She strikes quickly, often from surprise or shadows, using her martial arts.  Her physicality allow her great feats, often deemed impossible for a human.  Also her acute senses and cunning intellect gives her advantage.  Her skills range from acrobatics, martial arts, stealth, computer espionage and criminal psychology.  Her detective and intuitive gifts seem to be the greatest contribution to the ARCLight team.  She has made her presence known, never shying away from camara or the media.  Gotham City has Batman The Darknight, and Atlanta has Stormwatch The Dame of the Night.

Jacko - Fixer, Atlanta Criminal

"Jacko" has his finger on the pulse of everything nasty, illegal and crooked that goes on in Atlanta. He calls himself a "Fixer" -- an arranger of deals. His real name isn't commonly known, but his reputation precedes him. "Jacko" is extremely popular on the Atlanta streets, welcome at most unsavory clubs and bars. He is respected by the criminal element. It is not established if "Jacko" is actually from Atlanta at all, though he claims to be "home grown." "Jacko" is very well developed physically, smooth talking, and fine dressing, ladies man, with all the right connections, sans one, his connection to Stormwatch. He likes her, can't help but respect her, but she's bad for business, very bad.

Now "Jacko" doesn't involve himself in violent crime, but often his dealings lead to violence for others and on one occasion for himself. A deal got violent and Stormwatch arrived to clean it up. "Jacko" was saved from this deal gone wrong by Stormwatch. He owes her his life. Instead of her normal, bloody him up and throw him through the police station window bound by rope tactic, she offered him a deal. After all, as "Jacko" would say, "Deals are my specialty and besides, this face can't be bloodied up, the ladies would be devastated." Deals are indeed "Jacko's" specialty, and as long as he keeps himself relatively clean, Stormwatch puts up with the lesser evil to get his information, to get at the greater evil.

At "Jacko's" request the arrangement is kept discreet -- this often being the pressure Stormwatch uses to get him to talk. After all what would happen if the criminal element knew of "Jacko's" deal with Stormwatch.

Chase Claudia Black

Age
26 on her records, that’s pretty close to her actual age.

Living Relatives
Mother (in Japan) & Father (Atlanta maybe) (now separated and father has remarried)

Who knows your secret ID, if you have one?
no one (PERK: Jane Doe, All Records Zeroed)

Name 3 public figures you admire.

Name 3 public figures you dislike.

If you patrol, what part of the city, country, or planet do you patrol?  When do you do this?
Atlanta, wherever there is crime, mostly at night and in high crime areas. She also hits high crimes sometimes using her computer skills to strike at corruption and corporate crime.  Remember she works with the FBI & APD so she might do some day work too.

If you didn't have superpowers, what would be your ideal of a perfect life?
She doesn’t have superpowers, this is it, her perfect life.  Realistically, if her past was different, if her life wasn’t so complicated, a writer, living with her true love having a more ‘normal’ life style (seeing movies, going out to eat and the like.)  she might like that sort of thing now if a CoA member could drag her out (she’ll be in disguise natch’, mysterious and enigmatic after all).

Name 3 activities (not necessarily in any order) that you enjoy doing when not working or superheroing.

What do you do for a living?  If you have enough money not to work, where did the money come from, where is it now, and who is in charge of taking care of it?
This is explained in her origin, she electronically ‘stole’ illegal, ‘nonexistent’ bank accounts from the intelligence organization she worked for.  She is now believed to be dead, and the money vanished during a very confusing time for the organization.  She also has many allies in the organization covering up this mysterious transaction, if the transaction were even found out about (computer hacking and computer security codes skill).  She has a new identity, she made herself and some money is stored the good old fashion way, the intelligence operative special, in safety deposit boxes hidden everywhere and stashes hidden in her home.  She is a millionaire and crime fighting is her ‘job.’  Her alter-identity as a writer, although she is skilled and does produce quality work and she gets published (crime stories, novels of intrigue), it is all just a front for stormy (allows her to travel).

Where in Atlanta do you live?  Is there a particular reason you live there?
I’ve wanted to figure this out for some time now, but I haven’t had much luck.  Her origin states, a mansion, overlooking Atlanta, (a great view so she can look out over the city she has sworn to protect), which is way to big for one little obsessed crime fighter (I’ve drawn this mansion btw) with a good elevation over the city.  It is isolated somewhat, since I want a plane and small base soon.  Any ideas on a suitable wealthy, neighborhood with a view?

She also has an apartment in midtown and other safe houses throughout the city.  If I find to much time on my hands, I mark them on a map for you. She has taken a very realistic, almost military, approach to crime in the city.

Boxers or Briefs?
Underwear would only leave unsightly lines in my costume.
