Short version

This message board is devoted to Speculative Fiction based upon the Vampire Chronicles of Anne Rice and crossovers with other fandoms, and the comments, criticism and discussion of those works.

Some of the stories are dealing with adult issues, so we require that you are 18 or older to read or post on this board.

This is not an RPG board, so don't post using the name of a vampire. Exceptions would be the more common names like Daniel, David and Jesse, but if you call yourself Lestat, expect a talk with the mods about this issue.

You can use HTML in your posts (not in the subject line, though!), but please refrain from including images.

Posting Comments

Comments, criticism and discussions are encouraged. Either post them on the board as a follow-up or email them to the author. The writers put a lot of work into their specs, so tell them what you think of their stories if you have a spare minute. It is a wonderful thing to hear that people like what you wrote.

Flames - aka outright insults - will be deleted immediately, and the individual who posted them will be banned from the board. If you see a flame, don't answer it. Mail one of the mods, we will take care of the problem.

Posting Specs

Speculative Fiction is the reason this board exists. If you have written a story involving the vampires of Anne Rice, you are welcome to post it here as long as you observe a few guidelines.

Constructive criticism is encouraged, so be prepared for people telling you what they liked and what they didn't like about your spec.

The longer a post is, the longer it takes to load, so it would be nice if you split up your spec into parts. Post it in bits of about three pages in your word processing program, or under 10 KB. Just look at the posted specs on the board to get the feeling of how much you should put into one part.

Finish your spec before you post it, and have it thoroughly checked. Either edit it yourself, or get a beta reader. It will help you to spot grammar mistakes and such. If you don't have anybody to beta read your spec, you can ask one of the mods. We will try to help you as much as possible.

Mary Sues are not something we like. If you don't know what a Mary Sue is, go here. In case you post one of them, be prepared for hard criticism. There have been so many of those things that some people tend to become a little aggressive if they see one of those.

Disclaimers. Put a note into the first part of your spec saying that it is amateur fiction and not intended to infringe on the copyrights of Anne Rice.

If your spec contains spoilers for any of the books, say so. There are people out there who have not read all the books yet, and spoiler warnings give them the chance to avoid finding out how the book ends. So if you mention in your spec what happened at the end of MtD, warn your readers.

Rating is not necessary, but it would be nice if you could mention somewhere if your spec contains sex, graphic violence or nudity. It might sound incredible, but there are people who do not want to read of Armand's butt. There is a nice little set of graphics, make use of them!

The top of the first part of your spec should look something like this:

Name of Spec
by Author's Name
Author's email addy

Month and year of posting

(Sequel or Series information)

This is a piece of speculative writing and not intended to infringe on the copyright of Anne Rice or her publishers.

Archiving

If you have a homepage where you put your specs, add the link here. All spec parts will be archived on the board until you have submitted the complete spec to the Spec Archive, the wonderful place maintained by The Black Rose and Anastasia Illusia. Go here to see what you need to do to have your story be archived there.
