This spell affects the duration of certain other spells of less than third level, making the duration one year and a day. The spell must be cast on the caster or upon an item she owns. Spells which are known to work with this are:

The wizard casts the desired spell and then the Year & a Day spell. This causes the spell to be effectively permanent for 366 days. The caster is the only one who may be the recipient of any of the spells. Year & a Day is only affective on spells of 3rd or less level. A wizard of greater level than the one who cast it can dispel Year & a Day.

The material components of the spell are 10,000 gp worth of gems per level of the spell to be affected and a specific exotic item for each different spell affected.
