No matter which character type you choose to play the Quest for Glory series as, be prepared for fun! All of the character classes follow the same plot in each game, but the puzzles and side quests are solved differently for each individual character. For example, a fighter may be able to use his strength to overcome an obstacle, whereas a thief would have to take a more subtle and sneaky approach. The great thing is once you have finished the game with one character type, you can start all over again with a completely different one! Each of the character classes also have skills, unique to their particular proffession in addition to the general skills that all character classes have - eg. a wizard has magic skill and a thief has lockpicking. You can, however create a cross-character. An example of which would be a thief with magic ability (a skill the thief doesn't normally have). With so many options, there are nearly limitless character combinations for you to experiment with!!! One reason why these games are so cool is because of the replayability value. Quest for Glory offers Three different character types to choose from, The FIGHTER, The MAGIC USER and the THIEF. There is also a special optional character class that upgrades a standard fighter into a PALADIN if he follows a path of righteousness and honor.
PALADIN__ FIGHTER___ WIZARD___ THIEF
The simplest and most straightforward of all characters, a fighter is the best choice for beginners and those unfamiliar with the Quest for Glory series. The Fighter uses his brute strength and the sharpness of his blade to communicate with all those who would oppose him. Fighters often take the most direct approach to problems, using less brainpower and more muscle to find a solution. Experience with a wide range of weapons is their advantage, as well as the ability endure more of a beating than your average Hero.
The Wizard character is shady and mystifying, he makes a good choice for players who like to have an edge! The wizard has a huge variety of magical spells to aid him in his Heroic quests. There are a few different types of sub-class wizards (such as the Mage), but all are magic users with one goal in mind - they seek to make the world a better place by using their itelligence and spellcasting skill. Wizards prefer not to get directly involved in fights, unless worst comes to worst.
Dashing, Dark, Debonair, defiant, devious and dishonest is the best way to describe the Thief! The Thief lives by his wits and stealth. Take either one away and he ceases to be a Thief. Thieves are highly skilled at lock picking, pick pocketing, blackjacking and purloining priceless possessions and hard earned cash from people... even from those who trust in him. He's also a real ladies man and knows how to make the girls swoon. The Thief is the thinking player's character.. Lots of thought is required by thieves before trying to tackle a problem. Unlike, the fighter and wizard, the thief often only gets one chance. If he blows it then it's curtains! So, obviously his skills need to be honed to perfection and he must be able to keep his cool when heated moments arise. Thieves are also the most wimpy of Heros. Rather than get directly involved in any confrontive situation or fight, they prefer the sneak up behind the competition, unnoticed, knocking them out from behind with a well placed Blackjack hit to the base of the neck. They will then loot the unconcious body of all valuables, of course. A good thief knows how to apply his skills to any break-in situation and adapt them as the casual events unfold. An even better thief knows how to maintain his Heroic repuataion and keep his mouth shut! Regardless of his motives and his somewhat selfish attitude, even the Thief can be a Hero if he uses his skills for good intent and to right the wrongs of the world. Definatley the most 'Fun' character to play as!
Becoming a Paladin is a reward that is bestowed upon (normally) a fighter class Hero who performs noble acts of honor, compassion and kindness. A Hero who goes out of his way to help others and specifically avoids being dishonest will be rewarded with the title of 'Paladin'. Paladins live by their honor and constantly try to bring out the greatest good for all in any situation. Sometimes the path of a Paladin is lonley because they must make decisions based on what they believe to be right, and not the prejudice of everybody else. Paladins are un-egotistical and they show their generosity to anyone in need, even if that person is undesirable and rude. They possess all the qualities of an ideal Hero. Paladins can gain unique spells and abilities depending on how much honor they have. However, the struggle of being a true Paladin is difficult to say the least, and any acts of dishonesty or cruelty will strip a Paladin of his honor and thus cause him to lose his abilities and spells. A Paladin would willingly sacrafice his own life so that another may live. There is no greater act that a Paladin could do..
