Daimon (Daimoun (Daimon)) ["Daimon" is Greek for "evil spirit"] (original series)
First appearance: Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon S Episode 090
One of a series of genetically engineered single-celled lifeforms employed by members of the Death Busters in various respects during their sinister quest to achieve world domination by summoning Master Pharaoh 90 and purging the Earth of all life by triggering the apocalyptic cataclysm known as the Silence. The origin of these nearly exclusively female creatures has never been revealed, though they are all believed to somehow derive from the primeval Daimon Germatoid, the one known male of the species who took complete physical and mental control of Professor Souichi Tomoe and created all the others. Daimons are thus believed to ultimately be of extraterrestrial origin - i.e. alien invaders intended to replace mankind as the dominant lifeform on the planet Earth in the aftermath of the Silence - though evidence to support this rather grim hypothesis remains inconclusive at best.
Maintained in a dormant state within the carefully controlled environmental confines of a test tube in a pink liquid of unspecified - though presumably organic - composition developed by Kaolinite, a Daimon oocyte, when needed, would be removed from suspension and initially treated either by gentle heating or by injection with additional developmental fluid followed by swirling. The maturation process would then be initiated through addition to a preheated chemical bath of green liquid - also of unspecified composition - in a glass beaker that would cause the egg cell to increase explosively in both size and mass within a matter of seconds, ultimately leading to the formation of a striated ovoid body known as a Daimon Egg. Quite durable in nature, Daimon Eggs display at least a certain degree of rudimentary intelligence even at this relatively early stage of development in their ability to respond to simple verbal commands - such as being able to seek out suitable pure hearted individuals on command - and to navigate themselves during independent flight, for example.
When in close proximity to an object of terrestrial origin - which is either usually inorganic or at least non sentient in nature and bears some general affinity to the current human target, though these standards are far from being absolute - a Daimon Egg will emit several slimy projections from its striations which will latch onto and subsequently draw it in towards the substrate, whereupon a fusion of the two will occur. The final step in the creature's evolution is then initiated during which it animates the object in question and assumes a vaguely humanoid female form as well as - owing, if not in whole then at least in part, to its having been raised in Kaolinite's special developmental fluid - various supernatural powers and/or weapons defined by a combination of the characteristics of the item with which the mergeance took place and the quality which most predominantly defines the inherant purity of heart of the victim. The resulting monster, the actual Daimon, normally possesses average human intelligence, the ability to speak (fluent Japanese) ;), and an instinctive knowledge of the proper use of its powers, though all else can vary greatly. Upon the creature's destruction, the entire process is reversed as the object is restored to its original state as the Daimon Egg separates from it and cracks open to release the creature's essence in the form of a squealing, shadowy wraith.
It should be mentioned that while the fusion of the Daimon Egg with inanimate objects was the norm during the majority of the Death Busters' operations, it was most definitely not an inherant limitation to this process, as combinations with liquids such as water and living organisms such as plants and even human beings were not unknown. In addition, Daimons created at different points in time served the organization's purposes in varying respects, with these and other properties allowing for the general subdivision of all such existing monsters into well-defined categories - designated as Types Zero through Five in this document - in an approximately ascending level of sophistication with each class possessing unique qualities which set them distinctly apart from the others.
With the destruction of Master Pharaoh 90 and the Death Busters, the Daimon species has effectively been rendered extinct, and it is highly unlikely that Professor Tomoe - who has not only been freed from Germatoid's control but is also suffering from permanent partial amnesia - possesses the scientific knowledge that would be required in order to recreate it. However, one creature - later known as Renjii - somehow managed to survive the siege at the Infinity Academy that obliterated her brethren and rose up to terrorize the city of Tokyo after fusing with the ovenlike device that had once been use to selectively fuse Daimon Eggs with inanimate objects, though this final survivor of the Daimon race has since, too, been destroyed. The Omega Zone

Type Zero Daimons (Proto Daimons)
Example: Proto Daimon (Episode 106)
Despite their designation, Type Zero Daimons - also known as Proto Daimons - are not believed to be true examples of such creatures but the rather crude products of Professor Tomoe's early experiments to create chimaeric biological organisms through the fusion of Daimon Eggs with human beings. Upon reaching maturation inside of their hosts, these monsters would emerge from the backs of these individuals as amorphous black masses - causing them incredible pain in the process - that would then proceed to swallow the physical forms of the person in question before manifesting as a bulbous inhuman creature with tentacles and razor sharp teeth. Primitive, genderless, and completely mindless, Type Zero Daimons were dangerous due to their incredible strength and speed, but could also be easily destroyed by a direct hit from such magical attacks as Sailor Neptune's "Deep Submerge", which would cause their bodies to crystallize and subsequently disappear to release their now unconscious yet otherwise apparently unharmed human hosts.

Type One Daimons (Progenitor Daimons)
Example: Germatoid (Episode 124)
Type One Daimons were unique from the remaining four classes due to the fact that they broke nearly every convention associated with such creatures in that they were not only male in gender but also possessed a natural form that was inhuman, for example. Since only a single member of this subspecies - specifically the Daimon Germatoid, who took full mental and physical control of the body of Professor Souichi Tomoe - was ever seen, it is impossible to try and ascribe any general characteristics common to all monsters of this particular class or to tell if such an attempt is even feasible at all since he may, in fact, have been the only one of his kind.

Type Two Daimons (Generic Daimons)
Examples: Various (Episodes 124 and 125), Renjii (Episode 127)
Type Two Daimons were created from the induced hatching of Daimon Eggs prior to their having had a chance to undergo fusion with objects of terrestrial origin. The resultant creatures were all essentially identical in both appearance and inherant abilities, with pointed ears, sharp fangs, yellow eyes, and short tails. Though inherantly female, members of this subspecies were comprised of a sticky pink substance of variable viscosity that allowed them to not only assume a vaguely yet infinetely malleable and elastic human form but also that of a liquid, allowing them to flow along the ground either alone or as a massive tidal wave of creatures moving in unison. Perhaps owing to their premature origins, Type Two Daimons were possessed of limited intelligence and appeared to be guided more by instinct than anything else, though they did apparently have a limited ability to speak. Despite arguably being the weakest and least resilient of the five classes, their danger came from the fact that they were almost animalistic in their behavior, ferocity, and tenacity - allowing them to easily overwhelm adversaries thanks to their sheer number - and were capable of delivering electric shocks massive enough to short circuit a helicopter and cause it to explode. These Daimons also acted to reinforce the dome of dark energy created during Mistress 9's establishment of the Omega Zone and also served as an additional line of defence. It should be mentioned that these monsters still maintained their ability to merge with objects to a certain degree, though the results were far cruder in appearance and mentality - yet not necessarily any less effective in battle - than those seen with Type Three, Four, or Five Daimons.

Type Three Daimons (Kaolinite's Daimons)
Examples: Mikuuji (Episode 090), Nekonelle (Episode 091), Steering (Episode 092), Octave (Episode 093), Ousouji (Episode 094), Dieheart (Episode 095), Scar (Episode 096), Doburin (Episode 097), Todeen (Episode 098), Taiyaan (Episode 099), Highkyuun (Episode 100), Cenicienta (Episodes 101 and 102)
Type Three Daimons were employed by Kaolinite during her attempt to locate and retrieve the three mystical objects collectively known as the Talismans. Created through the fusion of a Daimon Egg with an object of terrestrial origin - both located in close proximity to and being in some way symbolic of the intended human target - the resulting creature would have the appearance of a humanoid female and often possess supernatural powers and/or weapons reminiscent of both the object with which the egg had originally merged as well as the qualities which most predominantly defined the pure heart of the victim. Unique to this particular Daimon class was the presence of a black star-shaped mark somewhere on the monster's body capable of emitting a beam of black energy that would cause a person's Heart Crystal to emerge from his or her body after being focused on that individual's upper torso for a certain period of time.

Type Four Daimons (Eudial's Daimons)
Examples: Soiyaa (Episode 103), Chagaama (Episode 104), Irondar (Episode 105), Darumaa (Episode 105), Hurdler (Episode 106), Choukokkaa (Episode 107), Chikuoon (Episode 108), Doorknobdar (Episode 109)
Type Four Daimons were employed by Eudial during her attempt to locate and retrieve the three mystical objects collectively known as the Talismans. Essentially identical to Type Three Daimons, they differed from the previous class in two important respects. First, they were created through a selective fusion process during which a Daimon Egg and a carefully selected object were placed together within an ovenlike device and mergeance induced through the addition of electrical current, there by eliminating the element of random chance that had come into play during the creation of such creatures thus far. The resulting monster was subsequently mechanically packaged within a medium-sized white box and placed in the trunk of Eudial's white hatchback for convenient transport to her intended victim's location. Second, they were designed to serve as Eudial's bodyguards - leaving her free to tend to the important business of extracting the Heart Crystals from her selected human targets personally - and thus had no apparent mechanism for removing pure hearts from the bodies of said individual. Both of the aforementioned changes were implemented by Professor Tomoe based on suggestions made by Eudial in one of her reports to him.

Type Five Daimons (Mimete's Daimons)
Examples: Western (Episode 112), U Henshuu (Episode 113), U Tahimee (Episode 114), U Tomodachi (Episode 115), U Baara (Episode 116), U Ndoukai (Episode 117), U Ikasaman (Episode 118), U Chouten (Episode 119), U Pasokon (Episode 120)
Type Four Daimons were employed by Mimete during her attempt to obtain the perfect pure heart for Mistress 9 to ingest so that she could at long last awaken to her full power as the Messiah of Silence. Essentially identical to Type Three Daimons, they were created through the same selective fusion process used to create Type Four Daimons yet differed from the latter class in one important respect. With an inherant design based on the principles behind cormorant fishing, this subspecies was specially created to suck a Heart Crystal right out of a human being's body, swallow and retain it at the base of the throat, and subsequently return to Professor Tomoe with the pure heart so that it could be converted into the energy required in order to feed and awaken the Messiah of Silence. This change was implemented by Professor Tomoe based on his own personal interpretation of a rather obscurely phrased command made by Mistress 9  directing him to steal Heart Crystals from human beings.
