First appearances: Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon R Episode 089 (Professor Souichi Tomoe, Kaolinite), Episode 102 (Eudial); Episode 103 (Mimete, Tellu, Viluy, Cyprine), Episode 112 (Mistress 9), Episode 123 (Ptilol), Episode 124 (Master Pharaoh 90) An evil organization dedicated to achieving world domination by summoning the planet ravaging extraterrestrial entity Master Pharaoh 90 and purging the Earth of all life by triggering the apocalyptic cataclysm known as the Silence. Very little is known about the origin of the group as a whole, save that it was formed by Professor Souichi Tomoe while he was possessed by the Daimon Germatoid and that it operated out of the prestigious private school known as Infinity Academy in secrecy for most of its history before its sinister activities finally brought its existence to the attention of the Sailor Soldiers and Tuxedo Mask. What the exact motivations for the majority of the members of the Death Busters - or its subdivision the Witches 5 - were for becoming affiliated with the organization remains as shrouded in mystery as their individual pasts, though given the fact that most of them were essentially human beings and achieving their ultimate goal would have resulted in the obliteration of mankind, it is no stretch of the imagination to assume that most of them were ignorant of the full truth behind the group's agenda for global conquest as it seems rather unlikely that either Kaolinite or the Witches 5 would have so readily participated in or contributed to an endeavor that would have resulted not only in the extinction of their own species but quite possibly their own deaths as well. In order to realize their ambition, however, the Death Busters needed to meet three general criteria. First, it would be necessary to procure the immensely powerful magical artifact known as the Holy Grail which would only reveal itself once the three mystical objects collectively known as the Talismans were brought together. The responsibility for locating and retrieving the Talismans - which dwelled within the Heart Crystals of three pure hearted human beings - fell first to Kaolinite and then to Eudial, who attempted to accomplish this objective with the help of the monstrous Daimons. Second, Mistress 9 - the only individual capable of using the Holy Grail on the Death Busters' behalf - needed to be awakened in order to realize her full potential as the Messiah of Silence. This could only be done through the ingestion of either the perfect pure heart or massive quantities of lesser quality ones, the procurement of the former having been left in the hands of Mimete and her Daimons while the latter fell to her successors Tellu, Viluy, Cyprine, and Ptilol. Third, a machine needed to be constructed that could both harness and channel the massive energies of the Holy Grail in order to initiate the summoning process that would bring Master Pharaoh 90 to Earth. The task of building this device - a miniature universe model of the Tau Star System - was left in the competant hands of Viluy and the Infinity Academy Science Club, who first constructed a smaller version upon which the full-sized actual machine was later based and that only Mistress 9 could activate by placing the sacred cup into a special chamber. Professor Tomoe himself remained relatively detached from the realization of any of these individual objectives, his responsibilities having been to oversee the project as a whole, distribute individual assignments, outline general strategies employed, and, of course, create the Daimon Eggs that gave rise to the monsters the Death Busters used in their endeavors with at least some help from Kaolinite. In spite of several setbacks, the group eventually succeeded in accomplishing their objective but were ultimately defeated by the Sailor Soldiers before Earth was destroyed. With the destruction of Master Pharaoh 90 at the hands of Sailor Saturn and Super Sailor Moon, both the Death Busters and their sinister dream have finally been laid to rest. The only surviving member of the organization is Professor Souichi Tomoe, who was freed from Germatoid's control after the Daimon was destroyed by Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune. Eudial, Mimete, and Kaolinite all fell victim to treachery, the first two having been murdered by their respective successors while the last was slain by Mistress 9. Tellu, Viluy, Cyprine, and Ptilol all died in battle with the Sailor Soldiers after falling victim to their own diabolical machinations, while Mistress 9 was destroyed when Hotaru Tomoe regained control of their mutual body and awakened as Sailor Saturn.
