History: Virtually nothing is known about the life
of the man known as Jadeite before he fell under the influence of the malevolent
demonic creature known only as Queen Metallia. By nature a cold, calculating
and arrogant individual overly confident in his own abilities, he first
rose to prominence as one of Queen Beryl's four Dark Generals, the leaders
of the massive human army that invaded and laid siege to the Moon Kingdom
one thousand years ago. Due to the power of Queen Serenity and her Illusion
Silver Crystal, Jadeite and his compatriots were banished to and imprisoned
within the subterranean realm that eventually came to be known as the Dark
Kingdom, but not before he and his allies had utterly decimated the mystical
realm and slain most - if not all - of its inhabitants.
Having finally succeeded in escaping from his imprisonment in contemporary
times, Jadeite took upon himself the assignment of collecting energy from
human beings - and, if possible, locating the Illusion Silver Crystal -
in order to release Queen Metallia and unleash her upon an unsuspecting
world once more. A consummate student of human behavior, drives, and ambitions,
he dispatched the first of his many Youma servants, Morga, to masquerade
as the mother of one Naru Osaka and take advantage of human greed by selling
special energy-draining jewelry to unsuspecting shoppers. This plan abruptly
came to an end due to the unexpected appearance of the costumed superheroine
Sailor Moon and her mysterious ally Tuxedo Mask, who, together, also foiled
his next plot, where he sent the Youma Palm to harness the energy of rebellious
youth with the help of a special deck of tarot cards.
Undeterred by his failure and perhaps motivated by Queen Beryl's growing
impatience with him, Jadeite slowly began assuming a more active role in
the implementation of his schemes, as in the case of his next one, where,
with the help of the Youma Fro, he masqueraded as Jay Daite - the host
of a late night radio show called "Midnight Zero" - and sent
energy-draining flowers as "prizes" to listeners who sent in
their love letters to be read on the air. This plan, while ending in defeat,
finally brought him face to face with his nemeses Sailor Moon and Tuxedo
Mask for the first time. Neither one of them, however, stumbled upon his
next operation - in which he used special organic pods to drain energy
from the female clientele of Este Shaprin, a health club - in time to stop
it from being his first complete success in Queen Beryl's eyes. It was
one of the few he would ever enjoy.
If this small measure of victory was what caused Jadeite to once again
distance himself from taking direct action, then it was perhaps the biggest
single mistake he ever made in his entire career, for what followed was
an unbroken string of failures that slowly began to try Queen Beryl's patience.
The Youma known as Iguara was destroyed before being able to make full
use of the energy-draining creatures known as chanelas, while what was
arguably his most brilliant plan - one where he intended to drain energy
from humans through using subliminal sound waves hidden in a special audio
tape, something which took even Beryl by surprise - was ruined due to the
incompetence of Kyurene, to whom the assignment of planting the recording
was given. His plot to drain energy from would-be idols by replacing teenage
star Mikan Shiratori with the Youma Derella and holding the talent search
contest known as "Cinderella Caravan" also ended in defeat. Worse
still, his next scheme - involving the monster Garoben and a series of
mind-controlling floppy disks - inadvertently caused the next Sailor Soldier,
Sailor Mercury, to finally appear, and that Youma's successor, Ramua, not
only failed to eliminate both her and Sailor Moon but also to reap any
great benefits for the Dark Kingdom in the process.
Though not pleased, Queen Beryl was willing to give Jadeite a chance to
regain her confidence, yet the Dark General's bad luck persisted, unabated.
His attempt to gather energy from lovestruck young girls with the help
of the Youma Kigan - during which he posed as a caretaker at the Hikawa
Temple and sold special energy-draining charms - resulted not in redemption,
but instead in the appearance of yet another Sailor Soldier, Sailor Mars,
after he banished her alter ego, Rei Hino, to the pocket dimension he and
his Youma were transporting their helpless victims to when she discovered
what he was up to and confronted him. It was only after this occurrence
that Jadeite discovered just how far out of favor he had fallen with Queen
Beryl, when she hinted at the fact that the chances he had for redeeming
himself were numbered and that even he was not irreplaceable.
The final nail in Jadeite's coffin, however, came after his failed scheme
to extract energy from the visitors to the Dream Land Amusement Park with
the help of the Muriido. It was at this time, while trying to figure out
how to rid himself of the three Sailor Soldiers, that he was approached
by an old acquaintance: Tethys, a high ranking Youma under Queen Beryl's
direct command. Despite his having snubbed her and treated her rather coldly
in the past - under conditions which have yet to be revealed - she remained
devoted to Jadeite regardless, gaining his attention by telling him of
a supposedly extremely effective and efficient plan to extract energy from
humans by luring young couples onto a cruise ship for a "Romance Cruise"
and then extracting their love energy. Perhaps in desperation to fall back
into Beryl's good graces, Jadeite and Tethys made a joint venture out of
it, though this latest scheme only ended in defeat for him once more, as
well as the Youma's death. Despite his protests that it was she and not
he who had thought up and carried out this particular plan, Queen Beryl
was infuriated about the loss of her apparently valued servant and grimly
warned him that his explanation for what this latest venture has cost their
side had better be a good one. Whatever excuse Jadeite came up with can
only be speculated at, however, it soon became apparent that it was woefully
inadequate, for, despite the services he had rendered to the Dark Kingdom
in gathering energy, Queen Beryl presented him with the following ultimatum:
eliminate the Sailor Soldiers once and for all or face the punishment of
eternal sleep.
In a supreme show of his desperation, overconfidence and the low level
of esteem with which he held his female teenage adversaries, Jadeite projected
a gigantic illusion of himself in the night sky over Tokyo, challenging
the Sailor Soldiers to fight him in a final showdown at Haneda Airport
or risk watching him burn the city to the ground. Materializing at what
was to be the scene of their final battle, he disposed of the legal authorities
who might otherwise have interfered with his plans and mystically took
control of a monorail in order to use it to deliver his adversaries right
to him. Upon their arrival, he unleashed the full might of his supernatural
powers on the three girls, sending men made of living mud in the guise
of policemen after them, thereby forcing them to transform and reveal their
secret identities to him as a result. Jadeite then threatened to run them
down with magically-controlled airplanes, an attempt that was halted only
by the timely intervention of Tuxedo Mask, whom he then engaged in combat
and seemingly killed in the process after the two of them plunged into
the ocean and the Dark General was the only one to emerge from the watery
depths. In the end, however, Jadeite was outsmarted and outmaneuvered when
Sailor Mars placed one of her ofudas on his back, causing his powers to
backfire on him. Wounded after narrowly avoiding Sailor Moon's "Moon
Tiara Action" and being (nearly) run over by one of his own planes,
he managed to make his way back to the the Dark Kingdom bearing the information
about the Sailor Soldiers’ true identities. Yet even this was not enough
to save him from Queen Beryl, who, believing that Jadeite was merely making
another of his grandiose claims, punished him with eternal sleep, encasing
his body within a giant crystal, where he was destined to dwell in darkness
forever.
Height: Estimated
at 5'11'' (180 cm); never accurately measured
Weight: Unknown
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blond
Abilities: Despite
being the first and arguably the weakest of the the four Dark Generals,
Jadeite displayed a vast and impressive array of supernatural powers. He
possessed the ability to rapidly transport himself over great distances
(whether by teleportation or by creating black dimensional gateways out
of thin air and using them to travel), cast incredibly lifelike illusions
of vastly varying sizes, drain energy from human beings, fire bolts of
pink lightning from his hands, generate an invisible shield around himself
by fully extending his right arm (in order to deflect incoming solid objects
or projectile attacks), emit an eerie fog from his body which could cause
human beings to fall into a deep sleep, and even the power of flight. In
addition, Jadeite also displayed remarkable skill at controlling and manipulating
inanimate objects, ranging from stopping Sailor Moon's Moon Tiara in mid-flight
to creating "living" mudmen to moving large vehicles such as
airplanes and monorails, sometimes over vast distances. This ability, however,
apparently required some mental effort on his part, and his control could
falter or cease altogether if his concentration was broken or he was otherwise
distracted.
Paraphernalia: Aside from his living mudmen and magically-controlled
airplanes, Jadeite had little use for conventional weapons given his vast
reportoire of powers, though he was known to have used several objects
during his attempts to procure human energy, among them the special energy-draining
organic pods and mind-controlling headbands he used to manipulate the fitness
instructors at the Este Shaprin, the audio cassette with the energy-draining
subliminal messages he entrusted to Kyurene and the energy-draining charms
he distributed while working as a caretaker at the Hikawa Shrine.
