Mistress 9 ()

History: The extraterrestrial entity known as Mistress 9 was an otherdimensional parasitic symbiont of the female persuasion that inhabited the physical form of Hotaru Tomoe and coexisted with her not only in body but to a certain extent in soul as well. Little has been revealed about the history of this malevolent alien lifeform, save that she originated on an unnamed planet in the Tau Star System and was implanted within the body of the then eight-year-old Hotaru by the Daimon Germatoid in accordance with a deal he had made with her father Professor Souichi Tomoe to revive the young girl after she was either fatally injured or killed - it remains uncertain which - in a tremendous explosion caused by an experiment gone terribly wrong at his workplace in the Genetic Engineering Laboratory. While the presence of Mistress 9 did indeed restore his daughter to life and allowed her to survive the second explosion which followed completely unharmed, it would be unfair to say that Hotaru truly lived considering the nightmarish coexistence that she was forced to endure for the next four years as a result of the sinister bargain that had been made.
                Unlike Germatoid - who was able to take complete physical and mental control of his human host Professor Souichi Tomoe from the outset - Mistress 9's personality, for reasons that have never been fully explained, could only achieve dominance over that of Hotaru Tomoe and take control over the single body the two of them shared for brief periods of time. During such instances, the young girl would initially suffer from a seizure, shortly after which she would either black out momentarily or lose consciousness altogether for as little as a few seconds to as much as a few hours, at which time the alien presence within her - whose actions she could neither influence nor even later remember - would awaken and assume full control. Despite the usually brief spans of time involved in instances such as these, they nevertheless more than sufficed for Mistress 9 to wreak havoc with Hotaru's life and slowly turn it into a living hell, for the former was a creature of such pure malice and evil - one who took great delight in witnessing the pain and suffering of others - that she would often inflict physical harm on the young girl's friends and classmates, who came to fear and alienate her due to the schizophrenic nature of her split personality. Socially ostracized as a result of her possession, she grew up alone and miserable over the following years. Yet the ultimate exploitation of Hotaru by Mistress 9 lay not in the twisting of her kind and gentle nature but in the complete perversion of who and what she was, for Hotaru Tomoe was none other than the reincarnation of Sailor Saturn - the Soldier of Destruction and Rebirth - whose role as the Messiah of Silence the latter intended to use in order to summon the planet-ravaging extraterrestrial entity known as Master Pharaoh 90 and purge the Earth of all life by triggering the apocalyptic cataclysm known as the Silence.            
                A short time following the appearance of the Holy Grail whose manifestation coincided with Hotaru's body being suddenly painfully consumed by a swirling column of black energy, Mistress 9 summoned the Germatoid-possessed Professor Tomoe to appear before her in her throne room in an underground laboratory located in the deepest bowels of the Infinity Academy. Telling him that she was feeling heavy headed, Mistress 9 instructed him to quickly obtain for her the perfect pure heart to ingest so that she could at long last awaken to her full power as the Messiah of Silence. Correctly interpreting this rather obscurely phrased command as a directive to steal Heart Crystals from human beings, he complied by developing a special kind of Daimon that he entrusted to Mimete and which was designed to extract a pure heart from a given individual, swallow it, and return to him with it for subsequent conversion into the awakening energy that she required. Unfortunately, this particular method for obtaining Heart Crystals proved to be unsuccessful time and time again, and with each new delay, Mistress 9 not only grew more irate and demanding in her impatience but her condition seemed to steadily decline as well, improving only slightly on one occasion when she happened to come into contact with Usagi Tsukino's Cosmic Heart Compact as Hotaru Tomoe, presumably due to the Illusion Silver Crystal contained within the brooch.      
                Eventually, Mistress 9 - perhaps out of a growing sense of urgency or simply to facilitate matters somewhat - decided to sacrifice quality for quantity and now demanded to be supplied with a large number of pure hearts in order to establish herself. In the interim, her alter ego Hotaru decided to pay a visit to her newfound friend Chibi Usa with a plant as a housewarming present, though the young girl's innocent gesture was compromised not only by the fact that her gift, unbeknowst to her, was actually one of Tellu's Heart Crystal stealing Teruruns but also because she barely managed to regain control of her faculties before Mistress 9's hunger for pure hearts nearly caused her to attack Chibi Usa in order to obtain one. Shortly after a frightened Hotaru realized what she had nearly done and begged her friend to help her, however, she was spirited away by Kaolinite and returned to the Infinity Academy, where Mistress 9's condition rapidly deteriorated to the point where she not only slept through a battle to foil an assassination attempt on her by the Outer Soldiers Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune - having been saved by Professor Tomoe, who transported her to another location - but also reached a point where her host body was beginning to physically suffer as a result of the mass quantities of pure hearts that had been denied her due to the failures of Tellu and Viluy. In the end, however, Kaolinite succeeded in abducting Chibi Usa after she, as Sailor Chibi Moon, ventured to the now abandoned Tomoe Mansion alone to rescue her friend. She was subsequently laid out as a sacrifice on a stone altar before the throne of Mistress 9, who, apparently roused from her deep slumber by the close proximity of a pure heart, developed an aura of eerie pink energy that coalesced into the shape of a demonic hand which - before the horrified eyes of Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune, and the assembled Inner Soldiers - mercilessly ripped Sailor Chibi Moon's Heart Crystal right out of her body. Evidently of a quality suitable to her needs, the pure heart was subsequently swallowed by Mistress 9, thus not only allowing her to take complete mental and physical control of her host body - which aged rapidly and assumed the appearance that Hotaru will presumably one day have as a young woman - but fully awakening as the Messiah of Silence. In a perfect demonstration of her cold-blooded nature and complete disregard for the value of human life, one of her first actions was to ruthlessly murder Kaolinite by using one of the errant lightning bolts that signalled her ascension to power to send the latter  flying into the electric wall that had prevented the Sailor Soldiers from interfering - which delivered a lethal shock to its victim - her sole reason for doing so being that the sorceress was no longer of any use to them. Then, Mistress 9 departed with Professor Tomoe to initiate the next step of their master plan in an enormous burst of energy so powerful that it not only collapsed the space around them but destroyed the upper floors of the Infinity Academy as well.    
                Now standing together before the miniature universe model of their native Tau Star System that would use the power of the Holy Grail to summon Master Pharaoh 90 - Professor Tomoe gave a quick explanation of the machine's function to Mistress 9 as well as what would be required of her in order to activate it, shortly after which she sensed the approach of the sacred cup in the form of its owner, Sailor Moon. Unwilling to let their enemies enter their nest before they had established their presence, Mistress 9, in a phenomenal display of will, used her immense power to create a virtually inpenetrable, red, dome shaped barrier of dark energy, thus creating their stronghold in the form of the Omega Zone. Then, after causing all the existing Daimon Eggs that had been created to hatch and release their monstrous occupants simultaneously, she sent the massive army of creatures after the Inner Soldiers to serve as a distraction while she plunged one hand through the very fabric of spacetime itself to snatch Sailor Moon by the throat and haul her into the Omega Zone while leaving the rest of her comrades  trapped outside, with the Daimons then retreating to form a second, living, defensive layer to reinforce the original force field. This, however, did little to stop the progress of the three Outer Soldiers by helicopter, who managed to penetrate their defenses and enter their lair through the star-shaped aperture - meant to serve as an exit for the massive beam released by the miniature universe once it had been activated by the Holy Grail - at the top of the dome, though only Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune actually ended up on the inside thanks to the noble sacrifice of the third, Sailor Pluto, who used her ability to stop the flow of time itself to save her comrades from the tremendous explosion caused by the merciless onslaught of Daimons that destroyed the helicopter they had been approaching the Death Busters' lair in.    
                Mildly impressed by the formidable abilities demonstrated by the three Outer Soldiers, it was during Mistress 9's expansive reinforcement of Professor Tomoe's assertion that her power as the Messiah of Silence was greater than that of their adversaries - which she attributed to the pure heart she had received - that she first encountered resistance of another nature, namely in the form of Hotaru, whose essence had somehow managed to survive the takeover of her body, though the latter's efforts were quickly surpressed. Deciding that the time had finally come for her to acquire the Holy Grail, the now incensed and annoyed Mistress 9 assumed the likeness of her human host and instructed the professor - or, more correctly said, his alter ego the Daimon Germatoid - to deal with the Outer Soldiers in the interim. Then, feigning injury and unconsciousness, she positioned herself in the rubble in such a manner that she would be easily found by Sailor Moon once the latter revived a short time later. Indeed, things played out almost exactly as anticipated and the alien entity nearly managed to successfully trick her adversary into believing that the darkness around them could be banished by the light of the sacred cup, but she overplayed her hand by referring to Sailor Moon by her civilian name of Usagi, a fact that the real Hotaru had no awareness of. Her little masquerade thus exposed, Mistress 9 revealed her true nature and origin to her Sailor Soldier opponent shortly before Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune - who had dispensed with Germatoid - arrived on the scene.    
                After explaining her intent to the three Sailor Soldiers, the two Outer Soldiers attempted to kill Mistress 9 to prevent her from succeeding in her dire plot, but Sailor Moon - unwilling to believe that Hotaru's very essence had been dissolved by the extraterrestrial and was now forever lost - took the full brunt of their combined magical attacks to protect the young girl's body and received a rather sardonic thanks from her opponent as her flying body, thrown back by the impact, crashed into an invisible shield that would have stopped them from scoring even if she had not interfered. Taking advantage of her adversary's kindness, Mistress 9 bound and captured Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune with her long, prehensile hair - which promptly solidified into a giant statue of the Messiah of Silence around them - and threatened to kill them both if her adversary did not freely relinquish the Holy Grail to her, though Sailor Moon was granted a temporary reprieve from having to make that difficult decision by the sudden appearance of the now unpossessed Professor Tomoe. Disgusted by the very touch of what she termed "Germatoid's pathetic container", Mistress 9 hurled him across the room and hauled him up off the floor by his neck with her snakelike tresses with the intention of strangling him to death as well if her demands were not met.  
                Before she could make good on her threat, however, Mistress 9's grip on her three hostages suddenly loosened - though only Professor Tomoe was actually freed - as a result of the discomfort she felt as her human body began to reject the extraterrestrial presence within it as the personality of its true owner Hotaru started to resurface. In spite of the visible pain she was under, the alien entity managed to regain enough control over her host to take advantage of the very real internal struggle for dominance to trick both Professor Tomoe and Sailor Moon into thinking that she was actually his daughter and fostering in them the mistaken belief that she needed the Holy Grail in order to recover. Her deception untimately succeeded despite Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune's desperate and angry warnings to the contrary, and, after once again managing to surpress Hotaru's will and engaging in some braggadocio over the infinitesmal chance that Sailor Moon had of winning now that it was in her possession, inserted the Holy Grail into a special cylindrical chamber of the miniature universe, thereby initiating the summoning process during which it was disintegrated, the massive mystical energies released in its destruction adding to the already immense power of Master Pharaoh 90.        
                Watching with some amusement as Sailor Moon attempted to stop the approaching Master Pharaoh 90 by channeling her "Moon Spiral Heart Attack" into the miniature universe only to suffer a rather brutal counterattack by her intended target for her effort, Mistress 9's phenomenal arrogance made it utterly irresistable for her to smugly point out to her adversary that it was impossible for her to stop the Silence without two levels of transformation. Unfortunately for her, however, she was too preoccupied with bragging to notice a phenomenal buildup of energy in the section of the machine located directly behind her until it was too late. Consumed by the tremendous burst of energy that suddenly erupted from it and nearly blew her away, she was spared from the full force of the blast by Sailor Moon and Professor Tomoe, who interspersed themselves between it and Mistress 9 in order to protect not her but instead the body of the young girl whose physical form she had wrongfully usurped so that all hope of saving Hotaru Tomoe from oblivion would not be lost forever.   
                Awakening from her humiliating ordeal only to find herself in the arms of Professor Tomoe, a now furious and outraged Mistress 9 threw him off, desperately trying to once again surpress her host and regain control, to no avail, for the brief moments that Hotaru had spent in the embrace of her father - who wished, as she did, to return to the way things used to be - coupled with her own determination to save the people she loved, which included not only him but Chibi Usa as well, had given her the inner strength she needed to fully reassert her own personality over that of her evil alien counterpart with a vengeance. The black star on her forehead shattered by brightness of the planetary glyph beneath it, Mistress 9 screamed in inhuman agony as her very essence and the body she had corrupted were literally dissolved into nothingness by the blinding light of Hotaru Tomoe finally awakening to her full power as Sailor Saturn and the one true Messiah of Silence.

Abilities: Originally, Mistress 9's only real supernatural power was her ability to generate a demonic, clawed hand to emerge from a pink energy aura surrounding her body that could reach into a human body and remove the Heart Crystal contained within it, though she also possessed somewhat above average human strength. Once she swallowed Chibi Usa's pure heart, however, her powers increased dramatically and include not only superhuman strength and the ability to fly, but also to generate an invisible force field around herself to protect her from incoming projectile and magical attacks, phase through solid objects, teleport herself and others from place to place in an explosive sphere of pink energy, create a massive dome-shaped barrier of dark energy around a specific location, manipulate and control lightning as well as Daimon Eggs and Daimons themselves, and temporarily breach the very fabric of reality itself with her right hand in order to grasp distant objects or even people and haul them through their end of the space-time fissure to her current position. She could assume the physical appearance of Hotaru Tomoe - retaining all her supernatural abilities in the process - and possessed long snakelike tresses of variable length with enough tensile strength to lift a full grown human being off the ground and which could be used to incapacitate individuals - either by tightly winding around their bodies or solidifying around them into a stonelike mass - or strangle them to death by coiling around their necks. As the Messiah of Silence - if nothing else at least in body - she was apparently one of only two individuals capable of utilizing the immense power of the Holy Grail.
Paraphernalia: For a brief time, Mistress 9 had the mystical artifact known as the Holy Grail in her possession, which she placed within the large scale version of the miniature universe model of the Tau Star System in order to summon Master Pharaoh 90.
