Tethys ()

History: Few details have been revealed about either the history or the personal life of the female Youma known as Tethys. What little is known suggests that she occupied an extremely high-ranking and distinguished position in the Dark Kingdom hierarchy as a member of an elite group of monsters under the direct command of Queen Beryl herself, who apparently held the Youma in high regard and considered her to be one of her most valuable agents. In addition, Tethys appears to have long had unrequited feelings for the Dark General known as Jadeite and apparently devoted much of her energy, time, and effort towards activities she hoped would gain her his favor, undeterred in her actions by either his shabby treatment or his cold and distant attitude towards her.   
                Following Jadeite's failed attempt to eliminate the Sailor Soldiers with the help of the Youma known as Muurido, Tethys - well aware of his evermore precarious standing with Queen Beryl due to his near unbroken string of failures - appeared before the Dark General and somewhat teasingly told him of a brilliant new idea she had come up with to gather energy from human beings. Having gained his full and undivided attention and temporarily bypassed the usual contempt he held for her by offering him a chance for redemption, the two of the entered into a partnership to realize her "Romantic Cruise" plan, during which she and Jadeite posed as the first mate and captain of a luxury liner. Luring amorous couples on board with the promise of a cruise from Tokyo to Yokohama, their actual intention was to drain all the passengers of their energy in the guise of showing them a romantic light show in the reception hall once they were safely out to sea. Despite the fact that her scheme proved to be quite successful and that she was elated at the prospect of finally being noticed by the object of her affection, Tethys found that her plan had been unexpectedly complicated by the fact that, through sheer coincidence, Usagi Tsukino, Ami Mizuno, Rei Hino - the human alter egos of Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars, respectively - and Luna had all managed to end up on the ship together.  
                In an attempt to dispose of her unwelcome passengers, Tethys sent her water monsters to deal with Ami and Rei while going after Usagi - who had by now transformed into Sailor Moon - herself. She might well have ended up eliminating her adversary had the other two girls not managed to escape their predicament by assuming their Sailor Soldier forms and disoriented Tethys with their "Shabon Spray" and "Fire Soul" attacks long enough for Sailor Moon to destroy the her with her "Moon Tiara Action".

Abilities: Aside from being able to assume human form, hover in mid-air, and possessing a superhuman leaping ability, Tethys had considerable magical power over seawater which she could manipulate and control for a variety of different effects. Among these were the ability to create whirlpools of various sizes that she could use to form mystical gateways in order to travel from place to place or to generate giant snakelike columns of water capable of striking with enough concussive force to punch through the steel hull of a ship. She could also create aqueous humanoid monsters to do her bidding and whose individual pieces - should they ever be fragmented - would each rapidly increase in size to form a new and complete individual, though these water-based creatures tended to be quite vulnerable to heat and vaporization. In addition, Tethys' seawater-based powers also allowed her to generate and maintain highly convincing and lifelike illusions, from giving her water monsters the semblance of being human to making a rusting hulk of a ship appear to be luxury liner. 
Paraphernalia: Tethys possessed a blue crystalline orb approximately the size of a softball with which she could use to view events from afar. She also employed a device resembling a disco globe which could drain love energy from human beings by bathing them in the waves of red electrical energy it emitted. The latter device was highly specific in its function and would leave any individuals lacking love energy completely unaffected and unharmed.
