ADV Films has announced that they have signed a long-term agreement with Kadokawa Shoten to localize, publish and distribute a US version of the popular Japanese anime magazine, Newtype. The first issue will be released this fall, and "will be unlike any other anime magazine available today". I presume that means any other US anime magazine. It will be in the traditional Japanese right-to-left format which is a great idea. Newtype is Japan's premier anime magazine and is full of comprehensive coverage, an amazing number of graphics, all in a stylish format. ADV Films claims the US counterpart will mirror the Japanese version in all of it's positive respects. No word yet on US anime coverage or what exactly the US version will cover more. This is very interesting news, especially after the Viz Shounen Jump announcement. Could it be US companies are 100% catching on to the idea of keeping true to the Japanese original products as far as anime is concerned?
