The following is an excerpt from a comic book titled Empty Zone, the brainchild of Jason Alexander. I highly recommend the series as a whole. It's a good Cyberpunk story. It also gives a pretty good description of how an Edgerunner might handle such things as cyberpsychosis and any other malady that may arise from blending too much machine with the man. The exchange is betweeen Banx and Corrine, two heavilly cybernetically enhanced freelancers on the run.

"Banx, when you stepped in on Zed and I in the Waste Zone, what were you doing in that shed marked 'Sanctuary'?"

"What'd it look like?"

"Why? I know you have GNB, but why kill yourself?"

"Because a long time ago, to become more 'efficient' in my work, I had my arms replaced with, then, older style Japanese proth limbs. They were stronger and unbelievably faster. After time, as I got older, I needed upgrades more and more and needing to make other replacements.

"My legs, replaced due to a contract regarding the protection of a Japanese ambassador, and three years ago, after an unfortunate experience in a club I bounced in what used to be, at that time, Manhattan, 90% of my upper torso was replaced. Now, last year, with my contracting GNB, it...it just seemed that by that point, I'd given up so much...I have more metal than flesh. Arteries replaced with coated Tokyo thread wiring, a heart with an 18-point Japanese constriction generator, and, Hell, probably a series of contracts where my soul is concerned."

"Corrine, at what point are we supposed to say 'Enough'? When do you realize it's OK to be human? What I'm dying of isn't a virus. It's a breakdown. A deterioration condition that commonly occurs in menial labor ro...robots...

"...in machines."

"That's all I am now..."

"Banx, it...it's OK. I don't even know what I am. It's like a few years ago, we realized we could trade in our mortality for more refined hardware. Only now are we figuring out,as individuals, that there are such harsh reprocussions. But Banx, you are an individual. One with a soul."

"Soul enough to help me..."
