PART 5

EXT. EARLY MORNING - FORT BRYDON, CAIRO

William and his gang are walking along the street looking for a casbah. They hear some commotion coming out of one of the buildings and go to investigate it.

INT. EARLY MORNING - FORT BRYDON, CASBAH

William and his gang step into the casbah. There is a multitude of scavengers and ex-military personnel drinking and gambling. William smiles to himself. Money will talk again.

WILLIAM
All right everyone, listen up.

No one listens to him. William grabs his gun from his holster, points it in the air and FIRES several shots. Everyone turns and looks.

WILLIAM
Now that I've got your attention?.I'm looking for a few good men to help me settle a little desert squabble. There'll be plenty of fighting, killing and this...

William brings out a handful of money.

WILLIAM
Anyone interested, see me outside.

William and entourage exit. Two men stand up, look at each other and walk outside. Many others take the cue and follow them.

EXT. EARLY MORNING - FORT BRYDON, CAIRO

William is talking to a large group of scavengers. O'Connell and Jonathan turn the corner and see William speaking with the motley crew.

O'CONNELL
So much for them camping out in the desert.

WILLIAM
All you have to do is ride out with us, kill anyone who is not of our group and help me get the girl back. Doesn't sound too difficult does it? Grab your horses, camels, whatever and meet outside the Fort. In one hour, we ride. Translate.

The Arab guide translates as O'Connell speaks to Jonathan.

O'CONNELL
So that's his plan.

JONATHAN
We have to get back and warn the others.

O'CONNELL
Right.

JONATHAN
With that large of a group, the Med-jai won't be enough.

O'CONNELL
Hmm...Let's go pay another visit to the museum.

INT. EARLY MORNING - CAIRO, MUSEUM OF ANTIQUITIES

The curator, O'Connell and Jonathan are walking down a hallway.

O'CONNELL
William has at least 50 men with him now.

JONATHAN
Yes, and they're out for our blood.

O'CONNELL
So where are your 1001 Arabian knights?

CURATOR
There are only 30 but they are strong warriors. They, combined with the Med-jai, should make a formidable force against anyone. You will find them on your way back to Hamunaptra.

O'CONNELL
We just came from that direction and didn't see anyone.

CURATOR
Trust me, they will be there. Now go.

EXT. EARLY MORNING - CAIRO, MUSEUM OF ANTIQUITIES

O'Connell and Jonathan are exiting the museum. William and his followers walk around the street corner and see them. O'Connell sees William. William speaks to his followers.

WILLIAM
Kill them!

O'CONNELL
Jonathan, get back inside!

William and his followers run towards the museum entrance with guns lowered, O'Connell and Jonathan run back inside, slamming the door shut.

INT. EARLY MORNING - CAIRO, MUSEUM OF ANTIQUITIES

Jonathan and O'Connell are leaning with their backs against the door.

JONATHAN
What do we do now?

O'CONNELL
I'm working on it.

O'Connell draws his gun as he and Jonathan run through the library to the rear entrance. O'Connell opens the door and a handful of William's followers are there with guns aimed at the door. They start SHOOTING, O'Connell FIRES back, slams the door shut and bolts the latch.

O'CONNELL
Go back, go back!

O'Connell and Jonathan run back through the library. The curator comes out of his office and sees O'Connell and Jonathan running towards him.

CURATOR
What is happening?

O'CONNELL
Get back in your office and stay there!

O'Connell and Jonathan run past him. William and his men enter at the end of the hall and run towards the curator. They start firing at O'Connell and Jonathan.

CURATOR
Stop, you mustn't shoot in the museum! There are many priceless objects here!

No one pays attention to him as William and his men run past him. The Curator goes into his office.

INT. MUSEUM OF ANTIQUITES, CURATOR'S OFFICE

The curator walks to his desk, picks up the phone and dials.

CURATOR
Yes, hello, I would like to report a disturbance?

INT.- CAIRO, MUSEUM OF ANTIQUITIES

O'Connell and Jonathan run into a dead end, turn around and make it back to the bottom of the stairs. William and his group run around the corner which forces O'Connell and Jonathan to run upstairs. William FIRES at O'Connell. O'Connell makes it up to the landing and FIRES back at William.

WILLIAM
Don't let them escape!

William and his group charge up the stairs SHOOTING as they go. Priceless objects are shattered. Jonathan stops at one of the shattered vases.

JONATHAN
This was from the tomb of Rameses the Great! It was worth a fortune!

O'Connell runs back to get Jonathan.

O'CONNELL
Not now Jonathan!

O'Connell drags Jonathan away just as a bullet whizzes past Jonathan's head. They run down a corridor, through a door and they find themselves on the open roof.

EXT. MORNING - MUSEUM OF ANTIQUITES, ROOFTOP

O'Connell slams the door, moves a heavy planter in front of it and runs to the edge of the roof. He looks down and sees a market area in the side street with canvas awnings to protect the food from the sun. Jonathan runs up to him.

JONATHAN
We're trapped up here.

William and his men start SHOOTING the door to break it down. O'Connell looks back at the door, looks at the canvas awning and back to Jonathan.

O'CONNELL
I hope you're not afraid of heights.

Jonathan looks down at the canvas awning. O'Connell throws his bag of weapons over the edge.

JONATHAN
You've got to be joking.

O'CONNELL
Over the edge, fly-boy.

JONATHAN
O'Connell, wait?

O'Connell grabs Jonathan by the neck and the seat of his pants and throws him over the edge. Jonathan bounces off the canvas and onto the street. O'Connell looks back as William breaks through the door. William starts SHOOTING at O'Connell. O'Connell leaps over the edge, bounces off the canvas and onto the street below landing next to Jonathan.

O'CONNELL
You okay?

JONATHAN
No treasure is worth all this.

O'CONNELL
Let's go.

William and his men start SHOOTING from the rooftop as O'Connell and Jonathan run through the streets. William and his men run back through the broken door.

EXT. MORNING - CAIRO, MUSEUM OF ANTIQUITES

O'Connell and Jonathan run around to the front of the museum. As they turn the corner, William's group from the back runs around the other corner, sees them and starts SHOOTING at them. O'Connell and Jonathan race down the street. William and his group come out of the museum and meet up with the others. They all take off after O'Connell and Jonathan.

EXT. MORNING - CAIRO, A STREET

O'Connell and Jonathan run down the street. William and his group are right behind. O'Connell and Jonathan turn a corner. William and his group turn the corner and run into a large group of officers with their guns lowered.

OFFICER #1
You will please put up your weapons and follow us.

WILLIAM
Why?

OFFICER #1
You are all under arrest for vandalizing the Museum of Antiquities.

The officer takes away William's gun. The rest of the soldiers take away his groups guns. William looks around and sees O'Connell and Jonathan already in custody.

OFFICER #1
You will be taken to Cairo Prison and await your judgement there.

WILLIAM
Now see here, I think there's been a misunderstanding. If we could just have a little chat I'm sure we can work this all out?

William pulls out his billfold and takes out some money. The officer walks up to him.

OFFICER
I hope you are not trying to bribe me. Those who offer bribes, usually are hung without awaiting judgement.

William hurriedly puts away his money.

O'CONNELL
I guess money can't buy you everything, William, can it?

William glares at O'Connell as they all are taken away.

EXT. AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS

Imhotep and Maggie come riding into the Valley of the Kings. Maggie is sitting in front of him, awake, and very pissed off as he holds her in place. She talks to herself.

MAGGIE
The Valley of the Kings? What are we doing here?

They ride by the ancient tombs. Maggie is desperately trying to figure out what Imhotep means to do. Then she realizes.

MAGGIE
Oh my God. O'Connell, Ardeth, hurry!

EXT. AFTERNOON - DESERT

Ardeth is leading the Med-jai and diggers across the desert, following a very faint trail left by Imhotep's horse. One WARRIOR speaks with Ardeth.

WARRIOR
(in Arabic)
You realize where he's headed?

ARDETH
(in Arabic)
Yes. Go back to Hamunaptra and wait for O'Connell and the others. Show them the way.

WARRIOR
(in Arabic)
As you wish.

The warrior rides back the way they came. Pemboldt rides up to Ardeth.

PEMBOLDT
What's happening?

ARDETH
I'm sending him back to wait for the others and show them the way.

PEMBOLDT
The way? To where?

ARDETH
To the Valley of the Kings.

Pemboldt is speechless as Ardeth leads them on.

INT. AFTERNOON - CAIRO PRISON

O'Connell, Jonathan, William and his group are all in one cell. O'Connell and Jonathan occupy one corner. William and his group keep a wary distance from them.

O'CONNELL
This is one vicious cycle we've got ourselves into. I ought to punch you. No, I ought to punch myself for even listening to you. If we get out of this, remind me to never listen to you again.

JONATHAN
If we get out of this, I swear I'll get a job and settle down. Just please, let me get out of here. Alive.

O'CONNELL
I wonder how those soldiers knew to arrest us?

William walks over towards O'Connell. O'Connell is on his guard.

WILLIAM
O'Connell, in the interest of getting out of here as soon as possible, I'm all for putting our differences aside to help each other.

O'CONNELL
And as soon as we're free, you're going to start shooting at us again? No thank you. As a matter of fact, why were you shooting at us?

WILLIAM
I was angry when I saw you with Maggie and assumed the worst. I know that's unfair of me, but love tends to bring out the worst in people.

O'CONNELL
So you're willing to let bygones be bygones? All in the name of love?

WILLIAM
Yes.

O'CONNELL
Okay, you're on.

WILLIAM
Any ideas on how to get out of here?

O'CONNELL
No. I've been here before and there's no way to escape.

WILLIAM
Then how did you get out?

O'CONNELL
A ...girl...saved me.

WILLIAM
It only takes one, doesn't it? Women.

O'CONNELL
Yeah, women. You can't live with them, you can't live without them.

O'Connell stares off into space.

EXT. LATE AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS

Imhotep has stopped in front of one of the tomb entrances. He drags Maggie off the horse and ties her to a stone pillar at the entrance. He takes the book of the dead, speaks an incantation to remove the stone that covers the entrance and starts to go in.

MAGGIE
(in ancient Egyptian)
Are you going to just leave me out here in the sun?

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
I'll be back for you shortly, my love.

Imhotep caresses her face and disappears into the tomb. Maggie is in total amazement at the turn of events.

INT. LATE AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS, TOMB

Imhotep is in a small treasure room filled with sarcophagi. He starts speaking the incantations that will awaken the mummies. Multiple priests and guards come awake to his call.

EXT. EVENING, DESERT

Ardeth and the Med-jai are still riding towards the Valley of the Kings.

INT. EVENING - CAIRO PRISON, CELL

Everyone in the cell is either dozing off or thinking to themselves.

INT. EVENING - CAIRO PRISON, DOOR TO CORRIDOR OF CELLS

A CLOAKED FIGURE walks up to the GUARD at the door to the corridor of cells. We cannot see his face.

CLOAKED FIGURE
Alms for the poor?

GUARD
Get away from here, old man.

The figure turns to go, then turns back to the guard.

CLOAKED FIGURE
May Allah smile upon you always.

The cloaked figure takes from the folds of his cloak a large metal spittoon and hits the guard over the head, knocking him out cold. The figure grabs the keys from the guards belt, opens the door quietly and goes through it.

INT. EVENING - CAIRO PRISON, CORRIDOR

The cloaked figure walks down the darkened corridor of cells. He peers into various cells, looking for someone. He stops outside of O'Connell's cell.

CLOAKED FIGURE
O'Connell?

O'Connell gets up and goes to the cell door.

O'CONNELL
Who are you?

The cloaked figure throws back his hood and reveals the curator.

O'CONNELL
What are you doing here?

CURATOR
I'm helping you to escape. What does it look like I'm doing?

O'CONNELL
How did you know we were here?

CURATOR
Because I sent you here.

O'CONNELL
You told the soldiers about us?

CURATOR
Yes. It was the only way I could make sure you stayed alive to stop Imhotep.

By now, everyone in the cell is awake and listening to the conversation.

O'CONNELL
If they catch you, you'll end up right here with us.

CURATOR
Then we must be quiet.

The curator unlocks the door and opens it. O'Connell and Jonathan walk through to the corridor.

WILLIAM
What about us?

O'Connell looks at William. The curator looks at O'Connell.

CURATOR
You are not seriously thinking of letting them leave with us? They ruined my museum!

O'CONNELL
It's all right. We got everything worked out. Besides, it's going to take all of us to stop Imhotep.

CURATOR
As you wish.

They all exit the cell and head down the corridor to freedom.

INT. EVENING - CAIRO PRISON, DOOR TO CORRIDOR OF CELLS

O'Connell, Jonathan and all exit out through the door. O'Connell stops and looks around.

CURATOR
What are you doing? We must go now!

O'CONNELL
I need my weapons. There they are.

O'Connell finds his bag of weapons behind a chair in the corner. He grabs them and they leave. The guard starts to come to. The curator pulls the spittoon from out of his robes and hits the guard on the head. The guard is once again unconscious.

EXT. EARLY MORNING, OUTSIDE THE MUSEUM OF ANTIQUITES

O'Connell, Jonathan, William and his men are mounting up to ride out.

O'CONNELL
Are you sure you won't come with us?

CURATOR
I am not a warrior. I am a simple curator and must tend to the museum. My place is here.

O'CONNELL
Thanks for all of your help.

CURATOR
Allah go with you.

O'Connell and entourage take off to Hamunaptra.

EXT. LATE MORNING - HAMUNAPTRA

The lone Med-jai warrior is waiting. He sees a sand storm appearing on the horizon. As he looks closer, he can make out movement. He hears THUNDERING HOOVES and realizes it is O'Connell and his men. O'Connell and his men finally come storming up to the lone Med-jai warrior. O'Connell and William dismount as does the lone Med-jai.

O'CONNELL
Where is everybody?

WARRIOR
(in Arabic)
I'm here to tell you that ...

O'CONNELL
Wait, I can't understand you. Ali, can you come here and translate?

ALI
dismounts from his horse and walks over to O'Connell.

O'CONNELL
Ask him what happened, where did everyone go?

Ali and the lone Med-jai exchange words in Arabic. Ali turns back to O'Connell.

ALI
He says that Imhotep killed his guards and escaped into the night with the woman. Ardeth Bay is following Imhotep with the rest of the Med-jai. They have gone to the Valley of the Kings.

O'CONNELL
That does not sound good...

WILLIAM
Then we're off to get her.

William starts to leave.

O'CONNELL
Wait a minute! You just don't get it, do you? You think you can just ride in there, fire a few rounds and save her? This guy is bad, worse than your worst nightmare. He has powers that you wouldn't believe and has no problem with killing anyone who gets in his way.

WILLIAM
I'm sure we can take care of him.

O'CONNELL
No, you can't. All he will do is raise an army of dead people. It's very hard to kill someone who's already dead, trust me on this.

WILLIAM
Then what do you suggest?

O'CONNELL
We need to wait for the warriors that the curator said would be here.

WILLIAM
We don't have time for that.

O'CONNELL
I realize that but we don't have any choice?..

O'Connell looks at Jonathan who is still on his horse and gets an idea. He walks up to Jonathan

O'CONNELL
Jonathan, I've got a job for you.

EXT. AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS

Ardeth leads his Med-jai into the valley. Pemboldt is heading up the diggers behind the Med-jai. They go slowly and quietly, constantly looking for signs of Maggie or Imhotep. They ride by many tombs. There is an eerie silence as they go forward. Ardeth suddenly puts up his hand to halt the group. He can see Maggie gagged and tied to a pillar. Maggie sees him. She is frantically shaking her head, trying to get him to stay away. Ardeth dismounts and walks up to Maggie. He removes her gag and caresses her face as he whispers to her.

ARDETH
Are you hurt?

MAGGIE
No. But you have to get out of here! It's a trap!

ARDETH
I am going to untie you and then I want you to get on this horse and ride out of here as quickly as you can...

Suddenly, a multitude of mummies emerges from the tomb, from behind rocks and pillars and attack.

MAGGIE
Ardeth be careful of their weapons! Don't let the blades touch you. They're poison!

A fierce battle ensues for however many mummies the warriors cut down, there are more to replace them. When the mummy's weapons cut the warriors, the poison seeps into the wound, killing within 5 seconds. Smoke arises from the blackened wounds on the corpses of the Med-jai. The Med-jai learn to be wary of the poisonous blades which makes killing the mummies more difficult. Pemboldt hides from the battle behind the tomb and witness the action. The Med-jai and diggers numbers dwindle down to a handful. The mummies surround them. Imhotep comes out of the tomb and speaks.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
Drop your weapons or they will destroy the rest of you.

MAGGIE
He wants you to put down your weapons or they will kill the rest of you.

Ardeth puts down his scimitar and motions the others to do the same. Imhotep walks up to Ardeth.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
You should not have followed me. But I knew you would. Now my ancient foes will finally be destroyed forever.

MAGGIE
(in ancient Egyptian)
No! Leave them alone! You have me, you don't need them.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
But I do need them. I need their bodies to regenerate the priests and guards buried in this valley.

ARDETH
Maggie, what is he saying?

MAGGIE
He says that you and your warriors are to be sacrificed to regenerate the mummies.

ARDETH
So Allah wills it.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
Bring the prisoners inside!

The mummies herd the prisoners inside. Imhotep unties Maggie and drags her inside along with the others. After they all go inside, Pemboldt comes out from his hiding place, deciding what to do next.

INT. AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS, TOMB

Imhotep brings Maggie to a statue and ties her up. Ardeth is also tied to a statue. The other mummies each hold on to a Med-jai warrior or digger. Imhotep selects one of them and the mummies bring him to the sacrificial table. Imhotep steps up to Ardeth.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
You, as their leader, shall watch the others fall first.

Imhotep returns to the table. The mummies hold the Med-jai down on the table. Imhotep raises a long knife above his head, speaks an incantation and buries the knife in the body of the Med-jai. As the Med-jai's soul leaves the dead corpse, it's drawn into one of the mummies. The mummy is completely regenerated.

MAGGIE
Ardeth, we have to do something!

ARDETH
I am working on it.

Imhotep crosses up to Maggie and cups her face in his hands.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
I will make us a new home, here in this valley. I shall create our royal subjects. Then you and I will rule this land together.

Imhotep looks at Ardeth and then kisses Maggie. Ardeth is furious struggles against his bonds. He accidentally cuts his hand on the statue. He finds the sharp edge and begins to saw through the ropes that bind his hands. Imhotep finishes kissing Maggie, walks back to the table and continues making more regenerated guards and priests.

EXT. LATE AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS

O'Connell, William and entourage enter the Valley of the Kings. Everything seems quiet. No sign of Maggie, Imhotep, Ardeth or the Med-jai. They dismount from the horses and leave them at the end of the valley. They proceed into the valley on foot.

WILLIAM
So where are they?

Suddenly they are attacked by mummies, an ambush. As the battle ensues, O'Connell realizes that some of these mummies are actually alive. O'Connell and his group learn the hard way about the poisonous weapons. This wave of mummies is finally defeated. O'Connell, and William investigate one of the regenerated mummies.

O'CONNELL
This one was fully regenerated.

WILLIAM
So was this one over here. I don't understand. Where is Imhotep getting the sacrifices he needs to regenerate them?

O'CONNELL
Where is the rest of the Med-jai we were supposed to meet up with?

They look at each other and realize that the Med-jai must be the sacrifices.

O'CONNELL
I hope Maggie and Ardeth are all right.

WILLIAM
If any harm has come to Maggie, there'll be hell to pay.

O'CONNELL
You're looking at hell right now.

Someone steps out from behind a tomb. O'Connell and William whip around, guns aimed. Pemboldt steps out.

WILLIAM
Pemboldt! What the devil are you doing back there?

PEMBOLDT
I was waiting for you to arrive.

O'CONNELL
Where are Maggie and the Med-jai?

PEMBOLDT
Imhotep took them prisoner inside that tomb.

O'CONNELL
How did these mummies get weapons of poison?

PEMBOLDT
The treasures buried with the kings were usually dipped in poison to guard against grave robbers. Everything from the smallest coins to the longest swords was dipped.

WILLIAM
But how did you escape from Imhotep?

PEMBOLDT
Well, I kind of just?.

O'CONNELL
He didn't. He hid like a coward.

WILLIAM
How do you know that?

O'CONNELL
Look at him. There's not a scratch on him. His face isn't even dirty.

O'Connell walks away from Pemboldt with disgust.

PEMBOLDT
Sir I can explain...

William turns away from him without a word. Pemboldt is left standing by himself.

EXT. AFTERNOON, HAMUNAPTRA

Jonathan is still waiting for the arabian nights to show up. He is talking to himself.

JONATHAN
What am I bloody doing out here? Probably die of sun stroke, waiting for these warriors to show up. Who am I to lead them? I'm no bloody hero.

The sound of THUNDERING HOOVES cuts short his soliloquy. A band of horsemen ride up to him. It is the promised warriors. They gallop up to Jonathan and the LEADER speaks.

LEADER
We are looking for the one called O'Connell.

JONATHAN
I'm not O'Connell, thank God, but I know where he is. He's at the Valley of the Kings. Everyone's there. We have to help them.

LEADER
Come. We ride.

The leader takes off with his group in tow. Jonathan gallops along with the leader.

INT. AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS, TOMB

Imhotep has run out of mummies to regenerate. The only two people left alive are Maggie and Ardeth. Imhotep walks up to Ardeth.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
Your sacrifice will be a special one. I will be back for you.

Imhotep leaves them to go onto another tomb and awaken more mummies.

ARDETH
What did he say?

MAGGIE
You don't want to know.

Maggie struggles against the ropes that bind her.

MAGGIE
I can't seem to break free of these ropes.

ARDETH
I am almost free.

He finally breaks through the ropes that bind his wrists. He crosses over to Maggie and kisses her quickly.

ARDETH
Are you all right?

MAGGIE
Yes, just untie me and let's get out of here.

Ardeth unties her. He grabs her hand and they leave the tomb.

EXT. AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS.

Ardeth and Maggie sneak out of the tomb. They walk cautiously past rocks and other tombs and run smack into O'Connell and William.

O'CONNELL
Ardeth old buddy, it's good to see you still alive.

WILLIAM
Maggie, did they hurt you?

MAGGIE
No, I'm fine.

WILLIAM
Good, then let's go home.

MAGGIE
Are you crazy? I can't leave until Imhotep is destroyed and the only way to do that is to retrieve the book of the dead.

WILLIAM
But I thought you said the key is gone.

MAGGIE
We'll find some way to open that book. We have to or we're all dead.

O'CONNELL
Let's get the book first and then we'll worry about how to open it.

MAGGIE
Right. O'Connell and I will go after Imhotep. You two stand guard and if you see any mummies, kill them.

ARDETH
I will be going with you also.

WILLIAM
Well, I'm not about to stay out here by my bloody self!

MAGGIE
Fine, then we'll all go together.

William turns to the two thugs and the rest of his scavengers.

WILLIAM
The rest of you stay here and stand guard.

EXT. AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS.

Imhotep's mummies have come across Pemboldt and the diggers who still have the coffin that they've been carrying around with them. The mummies subdue the diggers and bring them and the coffin inside the tomb to Imhotep.

EXT. AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS.

O'Connell, Ardeth, Maggie, and William are slowly walking up to the tomb that Imhotep is now using.

O'CONNELL
The stone is rolled away. He must be in this one.

MAGGIE
So what's the plan?

WILLIAM
Why don't we just blow up the entrance and seal him in?

ARDETH
Until Maggie and Imhotep are separated, you can not harm one without harming the other.

O'CONNELL
Right, so the plan is...

Suddenly they are attacked by mummies.

O'CONNELL
Ambush!

Everyone is once again pitched into battle. O'Connell, Maggie and Ardeth are backed into the entrance of the tomb. They kill their attackers.

O'CONNELL
You know, I can't even begin to tell you how tired I am of these guys.

MAGGIE
You can tell us about it later. Let's go.

They duck inside to find Imhotep and the book of the dead.

INT. LATE AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS, TOMB

Imhotep is fascinated with the corpse in the coffin and reanimates it. Pemboldt watches in horror as the walking, burned corpse of Richard Sands joins the mummies.

INT. LATE AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS, TOMB

O'Connell, Maggie and Ardeth walk through the catacombs to where Imhotep is reanimating the mummies. They discuss what to do next.

O'CONNELL
There's our guy.

ARDETH
And there is the book.

MAGGIE
How are we going to get to it?

O'CONNELL
Looks like we need a distraction.

O'Connell pulls a stick of dynamite out of his pocket.

MAGGIE
Dynamite? Are you crazy? You'll kill all of them, including Imhotep!

O'CONNELL
I'm not going to throw it at them, I'm going to throw it past them. Don't worry. I've done this before.

O'Connell takes a match and goes to strike it on Ardeth's face. Ardeth gives him a look, O'Connell changes his mind and uses a rock to light it.

O'CONNELL
What ever else happens, you get to the book. You're the only one who can translate it.

MAGGIE
Right.

O'Connell throws the dynamite to the far side of the room. They duck down, Ardeth covering Maggie. The dynamite hits the far side of the room and explodes. A few mummies are destroyed by the blast.

O'CONNELL
Now!

O'Connell and Ardeth ready their weapons and run into the main room killing mummies. Imhotep is distracted away from the book.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
Destroy them!

Imhotep sets the knife down on the table and goes towards the melee. Maggie runs to the book.

EXT. LATE AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS.

William and his scavengers are fighting desperately but slowly losing their fight. The sound of THUNDERING HOOVES is heard. William looks up and sees Jonathan leading the arabian nights riding towards him. Jonathan is brandishing a scimitar.

JONATHAN
Kill those mummies!

The arabian nights dismount and start killing the mummies. William sees that they have a fighting chance now. He dispatches his attacker and decides to go inside the tomb.

WILLIAM
You two, come with me.

William leads his two thugs inside.

INT. LATE AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS, TOMB

Imhotep is now battling with Ardeth. O'Connell is still battling with his attackers. Maggie is unable to open the book. Pemboldt is standing helplessly by.

MAGGIE
O'Connell, I can't figure out a way to open this book!

Maggie struggles with the book as O'Connell wrestles with his attacker.

O'CONNELL
Here! Try this!

With a free hand, he tosses his last stick of dynamite over to her. Maggie catches it in mid-air.

MAGGIE
This will blow up the book!

O'CONNELL
You got any better ideas?

Maggie realizes it's their only hope. She takes the book and the stick of dynamite to the far side of the tomb. She places the dynamite under the hinges of the book, gets a match out of her pocket and lights the dynamite.

MAGGIE
Please let this work!

She runs for cover. The dynamite explodes. Everyone is knocked around a bit. Maggie runs back to the book. The book is torn apart but the pages are mostly intact. She frantically looks for the separation spell. As Ardeth battles with Imhotep, making sure not to kill him, Imhotep realizes what's happened and is furious. Imhotep turns to the corpse of Richard Sands.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
Get her!

The corpse attacks Maggie from behind. Maggie doesn't know who is behind her, shakes him off and turns around. She looks at the burned corpse with recognition.

MAGGIE
Father?

The corpse renews its attack on her, trying to contain her. William and his scavengers enter.

WILLIAM
Get the girl and kill that corpse!

The thugs start towards Maggie but a couple of mummies start attacking them. Maggie breaks free from her father and realizes she needs a weapon to save her father from the thugs. She sees the sacrificial knife on the table and runs to it. One THUG finally catches up to her.

THUG
Oh no you don't sweetheart. You're coming with me.

MAGGIE
Over my dead body!

THUG
Eventually, but not until you're married to William.

MAGGIE
Why, you son of a ...!

THUG
Ah, ah...watch your language. You're a lady.

MAGGIE
Go to hell!

Maggie punches the thug. The thug is knocked back a step, Maggie turns around and grabs the knife. The corpse has come up behind Maggie with a sword raised over his head to kill her. Imhotep, who is battling with Ardeth, sees the corpse trying to kill her.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
I said contain her, not kill her!

Maggie turns back to the thug and plunges the knife into his chest just as the corpse is about to strike her down. The soul from the thug floats up and goes to the first available undead person, the corpse. The corpse starts to regenerate.

MAGGIE
Father!

The corpse is fully regenerated and Dr. Richard Sands is alive. He drops his sword and hugs his daughter. Pemboldt comes up behind Dr. Sands, a knife in his hand.

MAGGIE
Father, behind you!

DR. SANDS
Pemboldt? What are you doing?

Pemboldt lunges towards Dr. Sands. Dr. Sands avoids Pemboldt's clumsy lunge, picks up the fallen sword and battles with Pemboldt. Maggie turns away and sees that Imhotep has grabbed Ardeth from behind and is holding him while a mummy in front of them is ready to run a sword through Ardeth.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
And so, my ancient foe shall die. Run him through!

MAGGIE
No!

As the mummy strikes, Ardeth twists out of Imhotep's grasp. The sword goes through Imhotep's chest. Ardeth punches the mummy, turns and pulls the sword out of Imhotep. Imhotep is bleeding heavily as he drops to the ground. Maggie clutches her chest as blood starts pouring out of an identical wound. She collapses to the ground. Ardeth runs over to Maggie.

ARDETH
Maggie!

William is furious that Dr. Sands is alive and points his gun at him. The thug also points his gun at the others.

WILLIAM
Nobody move!

Everyone is surprised by this turn of events. Ardeth, who is on the ground with Maggie, whispers to her.

ARDETH
Stay down.

Ardeth and O'Connell stand.

DR. SANDS
William, what are you doing?

WILLIAM
Maggie should never have brought you back to life. But that's something I can remedy. You, set the charges.

The thug sets some dynamite at either side of the entrance to the room. He leaves a goodly length of fuse. Pemboldt starts walking towards William.

WILLIAM
And where do you think you're going?

Pemboldt stops.

PEMBOLDT
I thought I was your man.

WILLIAM
My men are highly skilled mercenaries, not money-grubbing incompetents like yourself. I said I would pay you to do the job right. You've done nothing but blunder it.

PEMBOLDT
But I thought we had a deal.

WILLIAM
Wrong.

William shoots Pemboldt.

DR. SANDS
William! Why?

WILLIAM
It's all about power, Richard. Something you had but never used to its fullest extent.

DR. SANDS
So, you had me killed. I should have seen it coming I suppose. Somehow, you knew I was going to change the will.

WILLIAM
Yes I knew. And that's why you have to remain dead.

DR. SANDS
Then what? Force Maggie to marry you?

WILLIAM
I can pay for a priest to falsify a wedding certificate. You see, Richard, money can buy you anything you want.

DR. SANDS
No, please, don't kill her.

William looks at Maggie, then back to Dr. Sands.

WILLIAM
It appears to me she's already dying. It will merely be a mercy killing.

Maggie slowly starts crawling to the book of the dead. O'Connell can see out of the corner of his eye what she's doing. He starts to walk slowly toward William to distract him. William aims his gun at O'Connell.

WILLIAM
Don't come any closer.

O'CONNELL
You think you can kill everyone and get away with it?

WILLIAM
I know I can. I've done it before. And I'm sure I'll do it in the future. Quite a fitting end to your lives, really. To become a permanent part of history, buried in this tomb. Who knows? Perhaps in a thousand years some one will dig you up and put you in a museum.

Maggie is still crawling towards the book of the dead. Imhotep also starts crawling towards the book.

WILLIAM
Or better yet, I myself will come back after a few years and dig you out. I'm always looking for unique artifacts for my private collection. You would have a place of honour as the ones who helped me become the most powerful man on earth.

Maggie reaches the broken pages before Imhotep and quickly finds the spell she needs. Imhotep looks towards her. She glances at him. She starts to speak the separation spell.

MAGGIE
(in ancient Egyptian)
The chain that binds the body and heart?.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
No!

MAGGIE
(in ancient Egyptian)
Forces of light, tear it apart!

Another terrible wrenching brings cries of pain from the impaled victims. They are no longer bonded but still dying from the wounds.

WILLIAM
What's going on?

William is distracted, O'Connell grabs his gun. As they struggle over the gun, Ardeth and Dr. Sands battle with the last few regenerated guards. Imhotep reaches Maggie and begins to strangle her.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
I will take you with me!

Ardeth knocks his attacker to the ground and pulls Imhotep off of Maggie. Maggie is slowly losing consciousness. Ardeth shakes her to keep her awake.

ARDETH
Fight Maggie! Fight for your life!

O'Connell grabs William's wrist and squeezes until he lets go of the gun. O'Connell kicks the gun away from them. William punches O'Connell then turns to the thug.

WILLIAM
Light the fuses and get out!

The thug lights the fuses and runs out. William starts to follow the thug out. O'Connell tackles William and beats the hell out of him. William falls to the ground in a daze. O'Connell tries to remove the fuses from the dynamite but can't. He tries stomping out the flame but it keeps going.

O'CONNELL
I can't stop it from blowing! Come on, everyone clear out!

Ardeth picks up Maggie and heads for the tunnel. O'Connell and Dr. Sands start for the tunnel. O'Connell looks back and sees Imhotep rising to his feet clutching his bleeding wound. O'Connell races out of the tunnel. Imhotep has reached the sacrificial knife and walks towards William. William comes to, gets to his feet, turns and sees Imhotep upon him.

WILLIAM
No!

Imhotep plunges the knife into William's chest. William's black soul floats up and over to Imhotep. This does not stop Imhotep from dying but gives him a few more minutes to live, a second wind.

EXT. LATE AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS

Jonathan and the arabian nights are defeating the mummies and guards. They hear an EXPLOSION.

INT. LATE AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS, TUNNEL

Everyone falls as the first charge blows. They get up, Ardeth picks Maggie up again and they continue out as the tunnel starts to collapse.

EXT. LATE AFTERNOON - VALLEY OF THE KINGS

O'Connell, Dr. Sands and Ardeth carrying Maggie come out of the tomb as the last charge blows. They run smack into a battle. Jonathan and the arabian knights are still battling with some mummies and scavengers.

O'CONNELL
I completely forgot about this situation. Come on!

O'Connell and Dr. Sands run to help Jonathan. Ardeth sets Maggie down in preparation to help them.

ARDETH
You will be safe here.

Imhotep, a bloody mess, sword in hand, comes out from the tunnel. O'Connell happens to turn to look behind him and sees Imhotep come up behind Ardeth.

O'CONNELL
Ardeth, behind you!

Ardeth turns around and Imhotep knocks him aside. With the last of his strength, Imhotep raises the sword over his head to finish off Maggie. Maggie opens her eyes.

IMHOTEP
(in ancient Egyptian)
And now, we die!

Maggie, with her last breath, speaks the death incantation.

MAGGIE
(in ancient Egyptian)
To the Dark One I call, receive back into your care...Imhotep...Imhotep...Imhotep!

Imhotep freezes as if struck by lightening. The mummies freeze. Imhotep dissolves into dust, which blows away on the wind. The mummies also dissolve and blow away. Everyone is knocked to the ground as the earth shakes, the wind howls and all of the stones roll themselves back in front of the entrances to the various tombs. Maggie cries out in terrible pain. The wind dies down and the earth is then still. The men slowly pick themselves up off of the ground. Ardeth crawls over to Maggie's still form and turns her over, frightened of what he might find. Her eyes are closed and she doesn't appear to be breathing. He holds her to him and speaks to her still form.

ARDETH
I am so sorry I failed you.

She stirs. He looks down at her as she opens her eyes.

ARDETH
You live!

MAGGIE
Just barely.

ARDETH
We must get you to a doctor, now.

MAGGIE
No, it's all right, look.

Ardeth looks down to where the wound was and sees that it has healed itself.

ARDETH
I do not understand.

Maggie smiles up at him.

MAGGIE
Neither do I.

Ardeth smiles and brings her face up to his. They kiss. O'Connell looks on in envy.

O'CONNELL
I thought I was supposed to get the girl.

JONATHAN
Well, you can't win them all, old boy. Besides, your girl is waiting for you back home.

O'Connell gives him a look.

JONATHAN
All you have to do is make the first move.

O'Connell smiles in comprehension at Jonathan. Ardeth helps Maggie stand up. Maggie goes to her father and they hug.

MAGGIE
I'm so glad you're alive.

DR. SANDS
I am too. And I have you to thank for that.

EXT. SUNSET - VALLEY OF THE KINGS.

The horses are loaded up. Everyone is standing around not knowing what to say. Ali steps up to O'Connell and Jonathan.

ALI
We leave you now.

O'CONNELL
Thank you for all of your help.

ALI
To protect the people of the earth, we would do anything. May Allah smile upon you always.

O'CONNELL
You too.

ALI
You fought bravely. You could be one of us, should you decide to.

JONATHAN
Thank you but no. I need something a little bit simpler and quieter in my life.

ALI
As you wish.

Ali gets on his horse and the arabian knights ride back to where they came from. O'Connell turns to watch Maggie and Dr. Sands.

DR. SANDS
Are you going to be all right out here?

MAGGIE
Of course. I'm an archaeologist like my father.

DR. SANDS
I'll worry about you.

MAGGIE
Don't. I'll be fine. Besides, you never know what else is out there waiting to be discovered. You'll be sure to change your will as soon as you get back?

DR. SANDS
First thing. Write?.when you can.

MAGGIE
I will. I love you father.

DR. SANDS
I love you too, Maggie.

They hug. Maggie goes over to O'Connell and Jonathan. She gives Jonathan a hug.

MAGGIE
Jonathan, take care of yourself and tell Evie goodbye for me.

JONATHAN
I will. Goodbye Maggs.

MAGGIE
O'Connell, thank you for your help. I don't think I would have made it without you.

She kisses him lightly on the lips.

O'CONNELL
Anytime.

Maggie mounts her horse. Ardeth steps up to O'Connell.

O'CONNELL
Ardeth, buddy...

ARDETH
You have the strength and integrity of a Med-jai. You will always have a place with us.

O'CONNELL
Thank you, but I think I'll just go back to the rain and gloom of London for a while. Are you sure you're going to be able to handle her?

ARDETH
You can never tame the desert. You must rise to its challenges and savor its sweetness.

O'CONNELL
Right. Well, good luck.

ARDETH
Allah go with you.

O'CONNELL
And you too.

Ardeth mounts up behind Maggie. Dr. Sands comes up to O'Connell.

DR. SANDS
Do you think she'll be all right with him?

Ardeth and Maggie kiss as they start to ride off, with a few surviving members of the Med-jai in tow. O'Connell smiles.

O'CONNELL
They're gonna be just fine.

O'Connell, Jonathan and Dr. Sands mount their horses. O'Connell gives one last look at the Valley of the Kings then turns to the others.

O'CONNELL
Let's go home.

They ride off into the sunset
