THE BATTLE©

by Lisa Duvall

I dreamt there was a war.

The canyon of clay was deserted of all
save the army advancing and army to fall.
Surrounded on all sides, the battle began
destroying to conquer the one mighty plan.
I stood in the center, gazing around
as humanity started to fall to the ground.
Frozen in fear for my self, for my life,
helpless in awe, of the canyon of strife.
would not hold a gun, could not help them fight,
I had to survive, my one thought of light.
Looking for help there was none to be found
so I ran through the fire atop of a mound.
The sun's sinking rays fell on sights to behold
bathing the scene in a shimmer of gold.
At the smell of the carnage I held my breath
and the conquerors cheered amidst all the death.
The army had come, no reason or warning
to claim life and land, and to leave the next morning.
Why couldn't I help, why was I so afraid
of this massive attack, this senseless raid?
No answers for questions, for no one was left
in the canyon of clay, now empty, bereft.

I dreamt there was a war.

Chartreuse Mice and Songs©
By Katy G.

On the highway lights
blackbirds tell each other secrets
while the leaves dance with
chartreuse mice and songs.

Ants march along the yellow-brick road
as rabbits play along the curb.

On the front of the buildings
frogs leap from window to window
as lavender spiders catch dew drops
in their webs.

Blue waters reflect the skies
for the lonely heron to take flight
as four-wheeled dragons roar on by
oblivious to the colours around them.

Perhaps the sights and sounds are
only what we make them.

Observe your surroundings
with rose-coloured glasses on.

SOULS ©
By Lisa Duvall

Two strangers apart
destined to go the path that fate has chosen for them

Two souls entwined
bound together as one by the force that breathes life into all

As the body goes on
each to its separate world

The souls travel upward
to the dimension meant just for them

At the end of the road
flesh regenerates unto their own ancestry

At the end of time
the souls must part, their existence melting to nothing

At the top of the flight
is the one who must finally cut the tie
and to that end
is darkness.

A Single Leaf©
By Lisa Duvall

The tree stood completely bare--
the wind, enticing the leaves to swirl
and dance away
except for a single leaf, 'way up high.

The wind buffeted the tree
trying to bully this lonely one
but still the leaf hung on.

The wind ravaged and raged
howling and moaning to no avail
for the leaf clung to the branch,
determined to fall in its own time.

Ever so slowly, the wind died down,
whispering its defeat of the one leaf.

When all was quiet and still
the leaf observed that
it was time.

And so, it let go to gently fall
where it wanted to be.

ELEMENTS
by Katy G.

The earth that groans and rumbles
opens up for the rain that tumbles
from above as the currents strike down.
No sound, no warning to sons or daughters
immovable ice turns to fast moving waters
and invisible wind howls and cries.

A silent blanket, the snow it falls
a gentle reminder to us all
that we are mortal.
As the elements ravage and rage
they are not hindered by time or age
but control the road we take.

My Best and Dearest Friend
By Katy G.

I know you are grieving.
I know I have left you alone.
If it were my choice
I would be there by your side.

Destiny makes our paths that we must walk
And this is the crossroads we have come to.

But I will be with you always:

In every whisper of the trees,
to the caressing warmth of the breeze,
from the brilliance of the flowers,
to the rains falling showers.
The suns ever gentle ray
to the one thought that floats astray.

There you will find me
and remember my love for you.
