hq-These are really only good to look at and fight close up, so make sure they get there. Don't pump up the Archon till he is about to fall over with wargear, sure he is the best, but do you need all of that wargear to prove it?
-Under 1500 pts go with a Dracon otherwise it is overkill, with combat drugs you can make it like an Archon, nothing is going to stop you from walking through combat if you select your target anyway. If you are charged then you are not going to fair as well anyway with or without the extra stats.
Retinue-Two warriors with splinter cannons. 5 or 6 incubi.
Drazhar if in a large battle and your opponent lets you.
I also add a haemonculi with scissorhands and a disructor, remember this weapon hits everything covered under the flamer template, no 4+ here.
-All of this on mounted in a raider screened by other raiders of warriors.
Second HQ-I take 3 Haemonculi all with scissorhands, and 2 destructors and on stinger. One with the other HQ, one can go in a squad of Grotesques and another with maybe warriors or a second squad of grotesques.
Elites-I go with a squad of each usually, those mandrakes atlast have a purpose. But in large battles I take 2 squads of grotesques.
Wyches-with all special weapons, in a raider with a disintegrator. Try a blaster or two, they equal death to any unit.
-A 5 beast strong warp beast pack with Beast Master.
Mandrakes-can capture bunkers or quadrants, and can disrupt screens, or take down pesky scouts. Just remember to shoot then charge that is 3 attacks. I usually take 7.
-THESE ARE GREAT FOR CROSSFIRE IF YOU ARE CLEVER ENOUGH TO TIME IT RIGHT.
Grotesques-Moving screens with great attitudes. I am in the way shoot me or prepare to be enslaved to make more of us.
Put Scourges with 4 dark Lances, or some warp beast behind them. They have more possibilities than I will share with you right now. Take 8 or 9 with 1 or 2 haemoculi, they are very sturdy. I captured a Carnifex with these guys, trust me they work.
Fast Attack-Just that fast at attacking, use them as a first wave or as clean up. Keep them moving or they will be gone just as fast.
-don't forget the Combat Drugs
Reavers-2 blasters and a syrabite with haywire grenades is enough to take down any armor. I tank hunt with these. Don't forget the bike mounted splinter rifles. Also the syrabite with a power weapon and a tormentor helm is a fierce combo when assaulting small units to wipe them out.
hellions-i am stuggling to find a role for them. please let me know what you think they should do.
I have used them one time. i was charged by 2 lictors from cover ,one made it the other didn't he didn't wanna come out of the woods to play. my hellions drugs made them crazed. a five man squad killed the first and charged the second killing it at the same time it killed the remaining member.
but believe me i would not have had anything to do with them unless they were my only option to tie them up. if i use them i take at least 6 one being a syrabite with poisoned blades. Then use them to harass and goad my enemy into waiting trouble.
Troops-I take 2 or 3 squads. 2 10 man squads with 2 dl, and one 20 man squad with splinter cannons and two blasters one being a syrabite with poisoined blades and slpinter pistol.
Raider squads-Remeber all troops on a open topped vehicle can shoot, not half like those armoured sissies.
I will say this again.
-2 10 man squads with blaster and splinter cannon. Each Have a syrabite with poisoned blades. The Raiders are armed with a dl and one with a Disintegrator.
Heavy support-Wild units that can turn the tide if they can live.
Scourges-Keep them away from Hth. Don't take more than 6, they are a waste unless you need to bump them up to make a specific point total.
Talos-Get them into Hth! Take out armor along the way.
Ravager-Slightly better than a Raider armor wise. Move it 6" and fire all the weapons.
