I know writing can be a difficult thing. I find that sometimes even the best writers have trouble thinking of what they will do. First off, making a basic overview of what will happen is good. I have found, for starting writers, it's good to go in the below format.

Day one:

During the daily check with Earth no contact is made. It is assumed that there are a few minor problems with positioning with base. This space station has been in orbit now for six months, now, and since launch, has never lost contact with ground control. I suspect it is only a minor equipment error on Earth. Tomorrow, I shall talk with them, and I will see my family on the monitor again. Since this place began operation, everything on planet and off planet has been peaceful, and beautiful. I still don’t know what we actually lug around on this station, for it is so secret, they won’t even tell us. All we do is change orbit how and when ground control tells us to. It happens about once a week, and occasionaly, only once a month.

Day two:

I have tried several times now to contact Earth, still no success. Maybe they are still fixing the problem in ground control, if their is one. If something is wrong on the station, I hope they get the clue and send up a shuttle to repair whatever is broken. I’m just up here to watch over it. The federation found me in a bar, drunk to the point of insanity. I am pretty smart, the federation knew this. I like to say I have a family, but the truth is, all I have left is my grandmother, and she never remembers me. Anyway, getting back to my story. I was drunk, and they arrested me, although, when I thought I was going to jail, I ended up at some strange complex. They interagated me, and found I had no ties to anyone, I didn’t ask very many questions, and I was relatively smart. They nodded at me after this evaluation and decided I was the man for the job. So, here I am.

This format is easy to use, because it is just like a diary. Just think like it is your diary, only you are him/her not you. Role-playing games can help you understand how to be a better writer.

Writing something or doing a genre you don't like, is tough. Starting off, it also might be a good idea to use an existing universe created by another writer. This gives you all the background you need. You just make the story. Then you can start to make your own universes.
