"The One He Let Slip Away"

Sunset fades on him
sitting quiet on the porchsteps
cool wind calling thoughts forward
of long past days
Thinking of the girl
who made him smile
and teased his senses
with a way he'd never known
How long had it been?
She'd had this laugh
and this voice..
slow like honey..
sweet, coaxing..
He had known then
she was an angel among mortals
Then one day
He never called again
and now long days later
He wonders how he let that angel go
and who recieved the glitter of her love
and though he'd had a good life
His thoughts often returned to
The One He Let Slip Away.
