Based loosely on the homeworld from the
Squaresoft game Xenogears, original and game
characters mix and mingle in the capitol city of
Bledavik, ruled by the young emperor Bartholomew
Fatima. The setting is a few years post-game and
not strictly Xenogears purist, as ether power is
still available thank to an evolved group of aliens
known as the Ethui, once space-faring humans like
those who populated the planet Paradise, but now
adapted to their life amongst the stars. No longer
shielded from the rest of the universe and renamed
Eldridge, the world is beginning its entry into the
Federation of Stars. The Eldridge Defense Force
stands ready to protect the world from dangers both
alien and domestic, headed by the Elements,
ether-trained pilots equipped with Ethui-made
Biotek Gears, more powerful and responsive than
even the Anime class Gears, with full Living
Response Systems.
While humans make up the vast majority of the
inhabitants of Eldridge, peaceful aliens are
welcomed and many have moved to the planet surface
to conduct trade and experience the exotic
offerings of the young empire. Races you may come
across include mutated humans native to the planet
known as Demis, Ethui, Sylpharians, Elves,
Unicorns, Phoenix, and other plane-walking and
space-faring aliens. Due to its proximity to the
center of the plane of Celestia, angels are known
to exist on the planet, as well as spirits of those
passed on but not yet ready to leave the plane of
the living.
The technology of Eldridge is in a state of
transition. The higher technology of the now
destroyed Holy Empire of Solaris is the exclusive
property of the Empire of Eldridge and the EDF. The
Ethui, as well as the Federation of Stars, deal
only with the central governing body of a world, so
release of their technology by the Empire is also
tightly controlled. This, however, does not mean
that the Emperor has any interest in preventing the
advance of his people, and technology deemed
beneficial to society and not a potential threat to
the Empire is shared freely with the inhabitants of
Eldridge. Hence you will find entertainment systems
and cars in abundance in the public sector,
medicine that takes advantage of the benefits of
Biotek and genetics, and computers and robots
enhancing both lifestyles and industry, but
ordering up a weapons-ready Biotek Gear in a
showroom is not an option.
Element and Ether are the main determinations of
an individuals capability to harness mystical
powers. An individual's shinto element of fire,
water, wind, or earth determines the class of power
he or she will be able to evidence, while their
innate Ether capabilities will limit to what extent
they can demonstrate such power. These qualities
are the source of all 'magic' on Eldridge.
