(Other) Superheroes
Of course, the Defenders aren't the only superheroes in the world. Let's face it, it'd be pretty terrifying if a bunch of destructive amateurish clods were the only things preventing supervillians from taking over/blowing up/whatever the world. And the Defenders can't be everywhere at once.
Like supervillains, superheroes come in all types. There are heroic, bright, upstanding protectors of justice. There are dark, brooding, none to mentally stable loners who lurk in dark places and beat the living snot out of evildoers. Some work as teams to better fight evil, while others prefer to work alone. Some fight for justice because the believe in it. Others fight to avenge past wrongdoings. And still others because they just want a little bit of fame and recognition and to make the headlines on the six o'clock news.
Being honest, the Defenders are near the bottom of the pile as far as superheroes are concerned. There are two good things about this. One, from here all they can do is get better. And two, it could be worse.
