INTERVIEW WITH MC.GRUE
I E-mailed Mc.Grue and asked him a few questions. Here's the uncut version of our e-mail. My questions are in normal text. Mc.Grue's answers in italic text. Extra comments by me are in red italic text.
Hi. Answer quickly before time's up
1.Do you like Final Fantasy 6? The first demo of Saga of the Stars had Figaro's music and FF6-style characters, but you once said that you hated FF6... I'm confused! Explain.
Well, I was just learning the art of sprite creation/animation, so I was\par using previously-made games (via roms) for demonstrations of how to go about this. Alden Castle was based on FF3j's castle tilesets in form. So, I had this neat castle made, and I needed a little guy to run around in it. So I stared at Edgar in FF6 a lot, and drew him out on graph paper totally by eye. I still have this huge picture of Edgar in that graph paper notebook that you can't tell what it is until you back up a rooms length away. So that was the first Onam, which looked (and was) a re-colored Edgar. He now looks much different and original. The reason the first demo had the Figaro Castle music is similarly boring. I was releasing my demo within an hour, and I realized I had no music for the bloody castle. So, I went to RPGamer, and downloaded figaro2.s3m. It was the best choice in my mind, seeing as the demo was set entirly within the castle. But the demo also could be between 10-30 minutes, so many people were driven insane by the music. Of course, the next demo's Onam.xm drove those insane people to kill, but that's another story ;)
2.Are you still doing SotS (Saga of the Stars)?
Yes. Really I am. Whenever life doesnt interfere.
3.I heard you were on the Sully2 team.. Got any info?
Yeah. I do.

4.You went to Verge-con. Is vecna's house nice?
Well, it had freez-pops and many videogames. So, yeah.
Doesn't sound like the lair of an evil madman.
5.How is vecna? Is his voice squeeky? What about Tarkuss and Zeromus and\par any other person that was there?
vecna's short, and Hahn, Tarkuss, and Zeromus are tall. Vecna and I actually spent the whole week hiding from those bone-crunching ogres! :o
I'm 5'11"!!! Maybe I can join you! It'll be cool, like "That 70's Show"!!!!
6.Did you guys hold meetings in a round table talking about the future of\par verge?
Well, verge-online, mainly. We argued a lot about gods, then ignored it and went back to playing games ;)
7.Did you play a lot fo Saturn? Does vecna has every Sega console?
Yes he does (mind you, this was before the Dreamcast... I dont think he\par currently owns that...) Personally, I was playing Shining Force 2 special something-or-other... My archer Shade kicked everyones ass.
Tarkuss was addicted to... Guardian Heros? I think. All I remember was that there were branching plotlines, and at the end of one, there was a geeky minor-villian in charge with a giant crotch-laser. I need say no more.
Vecna showed off his mad Wonderboy skillz, and Hahn sat back like the videogame sage he was and made a John-Madden-like commentary on every game there, every game existing, and a few that dont. (and I'm not kidding, he showed us a demo of Blackstar! :D )
So Blackstar is old!!! Cool. I never played Wonderboy.
8.Is vecna's dad intimidating. I'm afraid of him and I dont even know him.
He's a cellular biologist! He has reign over the power of life and death!!! Actually, he was a nice guy. And he kept a wide assortment of breakfast cerials.
Why are all Germans scientist?
9.Are you going to finish SotS? Really? Yeah right.
Maybe, if you believe... *really* believe... and clap your hands a lot...
10.What is your favorite verge games?
Galaxy Destroyer, Silver Circle, Zeux2... and anything that has orc-goat bondage scenes.
11. What was the first verge game you ever played.
That's a hard one... It was the version of Sully that vc was fully released in, methinks. It was cool.
I was in the verge-scene first! Haha!
12.What is you favorite game?
Final Fantasy 4. No doubt.
13.Can you give me some pictures of Sully2? I know you have them.. hehe

14.What's a Grue?
