Story
When Aeris, a harmless-looking flower girl, first makes her
appearance, Cloud hardly gives her a second thought. But when
things at the No. 5 Mako Reactor go horribly wrong, he finds
himself face-to-face with her once again. It transpires that she
is the last surviving member of the Cetra race, also known as the
"Ancients", and is capable of incredible magic. She
insists on teaming up with Cloud and his companions, but it's not
just saving the planet from Shinra that drives her - it seems she
has a bit of a thing for our spiky-haired friend! (I don't know
about you, but I just feel sorry for Tifa, who obviously loves
Cloud to death but is a bit hopeless when it comes to doing
anything about it.) Aeris's past is quite an enigma, but it
appears that she may hold the key to stopping Sephiroth's evil...
Fighting style
Aeris is strictly a back-row character, more of a doctor to your party than an offensive force. Her Limit Breaks concentrate on healing and protecting the party, keeping everyone's strength up and curing them of status ailments. It's just as well, because, to put it bluntly, Aeris is completely rubbish at fighting. Her staff does a pitiful amount of damage, even from the front row, so it's best to just forget about the "Attack" command and focus on her Materia-wielding skills. Give her a "Restore-All" combination and "Heal" and "Revive" Materia, and a couple of good offensive spells in case no one needs healing.
Aeris's Limit Breaks
Level 1: Healing Wind - Aeris's first Limit Break restores some
of the party's HP. Need I say more?
Level 1: Seal Evil - Aeris casts Stop and Silence on all enemies
present. As you won't get the Stop and Silence spells until later
on in the game, you'll find this comes in extremely useful when
dealing with troublesome bosses.
Level 2: Breath of the Earth - Aeris cures any ailments that your
party might be suffering from. The trouble is that you'll
probably never get this Limit when you need it the most - and
when you do get it your party will probably be in full health.
(Grits teeth.) Since it doesn't replenish any HP, this Limit is
almost worthless.
Level 2: Fury Brand - Two Limits for the price of one! With this
attack, Aeris charges up your other two party members' Limit
gauges with a searing blast of wind (ouch!), bringing them both
instantly to Limit level (and no doubt causing them many painful
lacerations in the process.)
Level 3: Planet Protector - Aeris temporarily makes the party
completely invulnerable to attack.
Level 3: Pulse of Life - Aeris restores everyone's HP and MP,
curing them of negative statuses (stati?) at the same time.
Level 4: Great Gospel - Summoning a choir of angels, Aeris
combines the powers of both her Level 3 Limits to completely cure
the party and protect them from all damage for a limited amount
of time. No wonder they have to kill her off - the game would be
too easy!
