Story
The mysterious Vincent is even more of an enigma than Cloud or Sephiroth. Rumoured to have been "modified" by the game's token mad scientist, Hojo, his cool exterior belies the vehement rage that burns within him. Square had obviously been watching far too many low-budget horror flicks far too late at night before coming up with the concept of this character, as his altered states (and his personality in general) all have a creepy familiarity about them, but this only adds to the somewhat sinister atmosphere that surrounds him like a bloodstained shroud. (Choice phrasing or what?) As fearsome as he appears, however, inside his twisted outer form is the tortured soul of a human being. And Tifa obsessives like myself may be well advised to heed one of his few quotes: "An overpowering love may consume you, in the end." I'm afraid as far as I go, it already has...

Fighting style
Vincent is a bit of a liability, mainly due to his transformation-based Limit Breaks. Not only do you lose control of Vincent when he's transformed, but many of his altered forms use elemental attacks - so if you're not sure of your enemies' elemental strengths and weaknesses before you go into battle, you could suddenly find him healing your opponents instead of hurting them, with no way to stop him. Don't give Vincent any essential Materia, like a Cure or summon elemental, unless another of your characters also has one, because if he transforms then you can't use any Materia equipped on him until the next battle. And don't even think about making Vincent the team's doctor or your party will be crippled when his Limit meter maxes out - and in a long fight, that could be fatal. This is especially important in boss fights, where your characters are more likely to reach Limit status and Materia plays more of a part. As for battle position, all of Vincent's weapons are long-range, so keeping him in the back row makes sense. There's no real advantage to putting him at the front.

Vincent's Limit Breaks
Note about Vincent's Limit Breaks: When Vincent uses his Limit attack, he transforms into one of four creatures (depending on his Break Level). Each turn after this, he will randomly use one of the creature's two attacks. He cannot be controlled or given commands, and will remain in this state until the end of the battle.
Level 1: Galian Beast - Vincent becomes a purple, Behemoth-like beast controlled by Fire.
Beast Flare - A fire-based elemental attack that damages all enemies present.
Berserk Dance - Vincent executes a vicious combo against one enemy.
Level 2: Death Gigas - Vincent becomes a Frankenstein-like monster controlled by Lightning.
Gigadunk - Vincent pounds one enemy into the ground with this powerful punch attack.
Livewire - A lightning-based attack that electrocutes the entire enemy party.
Level 3: Hellmasker - Vincent becomes a masked chainsaw-wielder!
Splattercombo - A five-hit chainsaw combo against a single enemy.
Nightmare - One unfortunate creature is afflicted with numerous status effects (similar to the Bad Breath enemy skill).
Level 4: Chaos - Vincent becomes an immense winged demon with strong non-elemental attacks.
Chaos Saber - A powerful attack that slashes all on-screen opponents.
Satan Slam - A huge skull rises from the ground, followed by three smaller, flaming skulls, inflicting heavy damage.
