When Raghu, a classical dancer (Vidwat in
Bharathnatyam), met Bhaskar, a student of music in Madras
University and an acclaimed classical violinist, the fire
within surfaced and ANTARAGNI was
born. The former had, for years, cultivated a passion for
western music and this proved handy when the two began to
experiment with fusion music. By evolving a unique blend of Indian
Classical, Folk and Western styles of music, in a short
span of 2 odd years Antaragni, has
carved a niche for itself in the Bangalore-Mysore music
scene. Their lyrics are fresh and their music is original
and filled with a raw passion that is aimed at the heart.
After two years of its
existence, Antaragni has been enriched
by the contributions from Ravi, a percussionist and flautist of
repute. This new dimension to their music has had a
spellbinding effect on the listeners and critics alike.
From exclusive shows at the
Alliance Francaise to mega concerts on Earth Day, their
reach has been phenomenal. It is not surprising if while
walking out of one of their music concerts in Bangalore,
one can hear the audience humming lilting strains of
Desert Blues or Align Me. To date the high points in Antaragnis
ongoing journey have been winning the Best Vocalist Award
(for Raghu) and Best Lead Instrumentalist Award (for
Bhaskar) during the StrawBerry Fields Rock Competition
held at the National Law School, Bangalore, in December,
1998.
AND more recently being played on & recommended by Radio 21 Brussels, the coolest
radio in the Capital of Europe,
Ocotober 1999.
Antaragni
is presently on the lookout for sponsors to launch a full
fledged show of their own involving popular musicians and
also to get a recording contract.
Is
anybody out there?!!!
